Done with Google SketchUp. This is actually my first serious attempt with it. Looks pretty good, particularly the Italian Renaissance-style building in the background.

Very nice Verithrax.

Hmm, I got a old school London vibe from some of Deepnight's descriptions. The Carthan estate reminds me a bit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Richter, where did you get your inspiration?
Verithrax2006-09-28 19:26:47
Deepnight is officially based in Renaissance Italy, IIRC, mostly Florence and Venice.
Kaalak2006-09-28 19:32:35
Cool. Will there be a Duomo and Doge's Palace added? How about busts of the Medici (Carthans) in the merchant's quarter?

Renaissance was a bit more flashy.. ninja.gif

But otherwise, good!

Hehe..Richter founded the Lusternian de'Medici, soon theyll use their extreme wealth to take over an actual city. Become Patrons to those of like mind of Brunelleschi and so many other bi-polar artists and architects and thinkers. wub.gif

Heeey be nice to Brunelleschi! I'm curious though to see who would play the Savonarola part. ninja.gif

I think hes awesome, bloody well took enough risks to prove to his workers the Dome would work! Just many of them were very tempermental, I shouldnt have said bi-polar of course, it came up in History Class the other and that stuck in my mind.

Still awesome. happy.gif

The walls move when I scroll down a bit...freaky. It's nice.

In 7 days he's going to get you! Watch out!

:\\ not funny.
Richter2006-09-28 22:38:53
Heh, cute.

If you want pointers though, the brick is red, the lampposts are silver, and the fountain is about four times the size with a spoutish thingy in the middle.

Cute though. tongue.gif Maybe we can do the whole city, I'll have to ask you about that when I get online later tonight.

The tavern in Deepnight.

As for people, SketchUp is only good for modeling objects with mostly linear surfaces and simple curves - It really couldn't model a realistic human body properly even if I had that kind of skill, although it can place some flat people images (That always face the viewer) on a model just to give it a sense of scale.

Nice! smile.gif So that's where Reiha would pass out as a youth.

Unfinished shot of the future Deepnight plaza project. The finished one, if I finish it, will have a lot more detail and a fountain.
Richter2006-10-05 20:27:34
Huge pic.

Oh, and don't forget there's technically a stone archway over part of it (which houses the moonlit tenement), lots of pictures don't show it (like the one in my signature)
Verithrax2006-10-05 20:42:10
That picture is basically of a huge stone archway. (Although I was going to place it in front of the fountain, not around it.) It's based on the Piazza de la Republica in Florence.
Richter2006-10-05 20:54:47
Think more of an arched bridge, large enough to have people walk in it, as well as on it, so, eight-ten feet tall.
Abethor2006-10-05 21:36:56
Curious how you're all talking about the Renaissance and I'm refreshing my memory at the moment on that very topic... biggrin.gif

Inspired by the Rialto bridge but much larger. It's an arched bridge of sorts but also supports and contains part of the tenement above the plaza.
