QUOTE(Aieren @ Oct 2 2006, 12:44 PM) 337884
I gotta say, the pointing fingers and assigning blame at this point is ridiculous. There were people on both sides of the conflict who wanted a war and there were plenty of good IC reasons that it broke out. Celest has completely legitimate IC reasons to want to separate themselves from the Serenwilde and to want the Serenwilde to not kill angels, and the Serenwilde has perfectly good IC reasons not to bow to Celest's whim or impose sweeping bans upon their citizenry.
I don't really like the war, OOC'ly or IC'ly. My character, who joined the realms and the Commune right around the start of the war, is tired of being a pincushion for Celestines. Dropping whatever I'm doing to die uselessly in the defense of my commune is frustrating both for the character and the player. At the same time, he would never support any kind of ban, not because he has any desire to kill angels but because it is an extremely out of character law for the Serenwilde to impose.
So, I hope the war ends, but I'm not sure I see any really IC resolution that is readily available to end it. In the same vein, I'm not arrogant enough to say that it was solely anyone's fault, few things are that simple, and I'm pretty sure that this case is no exception.
I agree, both sides had a part in it, but I don't think the blame is equal. I also agree that Serenwilde has good IC reasons not to ban the angel killing, BUT they should have done so in respect to Celest previously banning the fae conversion and punishing those that did it (i.e. Shamarah was punished by the Star Council, and when the city was flooded the Star Council was in the process of making it an actual law, so the flood had nothing to do with it-it was already being put into effect beforehand.)
I also agree that unless current views of either Celest or Serenwilde change, the war could go on for a long time. And, Celest, of course, won't change ther outlook on protecting their angels-that'd just be stupid-so it's pretty much left to Serenwilde to end the war by banning the killing of Angels by their commune members.
Aieren2006-10-02 17:13:01
Aye, I agree for the most part. Although it was before my time and so I don't really have any knowledge, the idea of Serenwilde forcing any kind of ban on Celest seems considerably odder than any of the stuff this time around. But as I said I don't know what the situation was like then.
Ed: Also, alternatively to declaring war Celest could have dropped their fae-killing ban, making both sides equal. To say that Celest was forced to go to war by Serenwilde's unwillingness to join a bilateral ban is a bit of a sophistry. It seems a lot more like war was brewing for a long time and that event was just the trigger.

Heard that there is suppose to be a 'time-out' between Celest and Serenwilde for a few days, which is kinda good since a lot of people are getting pissed cause they have to defend everyday whenever they log in.
Now if only I can transfer to Serenwilde before Celest and Serenwilde become 'buddies'

won't happen. Serenwilde hates emo kids as much as Celest does
And yes, Celest is going to have a small "cease fire" for a while. But you didn't hear that if you didn't already know it! So don't let the forums change the way you think in the game

Like everyone else, I was kind of distracted by the divergence of this thread. In response to the initial question, I think that the balance of power is with Celest at this point. The serenwilde has larger numbers in many battles, but most of those aren't good fighters. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, it seems like almost all of the attacking is being done by Celest at this point. My character has never joined a raid and never will, but I don't really see any happening from the Serenwilde side these days, although I might just be missing them.

I though Estarra threw shoes at people instead of zapping them.
High heels thrown across the basin probably hurt more than electricty.

Ok, I didn't read this post, since all of the posts in this vein are written by the same people saying the same things over and over.
But, to answer Anarias, yes, this DO work slowly when working on treaties, and there is a reason. We all have lives external to Lusternia. For those of you reading this now and are wondering what I'm talking about, stop reading and go buy more credits.
Now, this "peace" couldn't have come at a worse time for me, because right after we started contacting Serenwilde and vise versa I had to take a much needed and deserved 2 1/2 week leave period to see my wife. Thus, the Star Council had to handle the whole thing as best they could. I love my Council, but at times I feel like I really need to poke and prod to get things moving.
While I did miss Lusternia, it is in no way compared to the joy and excitment I get when I'm with my wife.

I wish that was the only reason why things moved so slowly. Gosh I really do. Don't think though that I'm angry at anyone about it. I can be patient.

The favour was for posting in-game and not on the forums. I believe I had messaged him in capital letters that the favour was not meant to either support or oppose the content of his post, but rather I wanted to show support for more discussions taking place in public rather than elsewhere (rather like posting on the war in the forums rather than in-game *cough*). It's ludicrous to suggest that I "took Celest's side" and I'll be happy to zap anyone who says so in-game.
Anyway, I do read public posts so don't be surprised if you get a random favour from me for starting discussions in-game!
Zap Malicia then! I found out about it when she used it as part of an IC argument as why Celest was in the right.

@Sarvasti I'm only 15 minutes from Quebec. Leave the French Canadians alone! They kicked ass in the 1600's
Now, I didn't much like Gregori.. but do you not remember Nikua? Nikua wasn't a very good guy.

id like to switch swords with ixion and see if he still does well, im not saying he has no skill im just saying i havent had any chance to ever see any skill- and yes this is a different thing.
but anyway my personal opinion:
war was serens fault (mainly)
i laugh when you say it was because of threee serens keep telling yourself that
ive enjoyed this war anyway its been fun
and to the comment someone made about mag..people are leaving because without daevos and some of the other oldies its falling apart..its pretty disgusting to even login to a mag character these days

I have to say, Ixion is skilled. Just because he has amazing swords doesn't mean he's not. That's like attributing all of Daevos' prowess to his sword, or Murphy to his hammers, or Geb to his arties. Or heck, even me to my helm.
You shouldn't attribute all of his success to a singular factor such as that, that's faulty logic. I mean, that's like saying people who bought a lot of credits are only good because of that. It takes more than just credits to be really good (Raizan comes to mind), just as it takes more than just good weapons. I mean, there are plenty of omni-trans, or nearly omni-trans'd out there, but they're still not considered elite fighters.
One parallel that's even more relevant is Rafael. He had some amazing swords, but he doesn't invoke the fear that Ixion does.
I'm sure the swords are immensely useful, don't get me wrong. But saying Ixion has no skill is wrong. He may, or may not, be among the elite, but he's still worthy of a healthy deal of respect regardless.
EDIT: Forgot to mention my comments about Mag. It's really too bad to see so many of the leaders simply disappear like that, and now it seems they really need help. When I first started Lusternia, it was my thought to go Mag, but my friend swayed me to Celest cause he and another friend had chars in Celest. Now they both have chars in Mag
Was almost tempted to switch orgs to one of the underdogs (Glom or Mag), but Nico's so strongly established in Celest, plus I have some good friends there.

They don't have to fear praying cause they can rezz or sacrifice
