I chose the lyre because it looks cool! Though to be honest I'm not sure what any of those instruments sound like exactly, except that they're vaguely guitar/violin-ish.
And vioins for what I want to see... though portable mini pianos would be neat too

@ Arix: Estarra's already stated we'll have no non-stringed instruments due to the set-up of the skills. (and really, looking at them I agree, the skills wouldn't apply as well to non-string instruments)

We'll never ever get jazz instruments, so I'm not even going to bother asking.. though it would be nice if that was an option..

Gettable? Mine are non-gettable but reset to me. I tried to drop them in that double-stone-circle I made before I left so they'd be there for the rest of the guild to use, but when I logged on ages later to check something, they were back in my hands. If any admins are reading this, feel free to move them to the stone circle -- you could even have a faint impression of Gwylifar be the one to drop them there before flickering back out of perception if you like.
