Spamming's effect on balance recovery

by Unknown

Back to Mythbusters.

I've heard tons of times that spamming commands that require eq/balance while waiting for it to recover increases the time it takes for it to return. Well, I guess you're all imagining things after all. I'd say something along the lines of MYTH: BUSTED but I'd feel like a silly **** so I'll suffice with this:

All you censor.gif were WRONG.

Okay, cool. Here's a log.

fly
You begin to flap your wings powerfully and rise quickly up into the firmament. 9:59:16
Flying above scallop laden coastline along the Inner Sea.
The bright sun shines down, blanketing you with its life-giving warmth. The sand
has been almost overtaken by the huge deposits of scallops that fill the beach.
A few have opened in death, leaving their meat open to the hoards of seagulls
that have also overtaken this once pristine beach land. A net surrounds some of
the piles, however a tear in the side prevents any actual use for carrying them
off back to a ship or store.
You see exits leading north, southeast, south, southwest, and west.

fly
You begin to flap your wings powerfully and rise quickly up into the firmament. 10:00:46
Flying above a bank of grass divided by sand and stone.
The bright sun shines down, blanketing you with its life-giving warmth. The
grass here grows freely, although split into various sections by strips of sand
and stone from the river. Waves push insistently at the sand, edging it ever
closer towards the grass, threatening to someday overpower it and cover it
completely.
You see exits leading north, south, and southwest.

While I don't beleive said myth myself, your clock only shows seconds. Assuming it rounds normally (.4 and lower down, .5 and higher up) it could be as much as a half second longer. If it always rounds up or down, it could be off by as much as .999999 etc seconds. While I agree with your conclusion, your log proves nada.

I'd want to see more than one log. Half a second can be due to lag changes.
Unknown2006-10-02 06:57:26
What if that extra time is just due to your connection having to receive all the spam text before the balance recovery message?

That's what I always thought it was, so it's not something hardcoded, but it is still a fact.

Yeah, this is the reason. I remember Hajamin explicitly stating at one point that spamming commands does NOT increase recovery time.
Ekard2006-10-02 17:53:52
Someone else test it too.
Unknown2006-10-02 18:30:30
someone should test it but...

they need an ubber fast connection, preferably close to the server
they need some good fast processor
probably some good ram to booth

The spamming thing is mostly computer related stuff.. too much stuff makes your 'puter dumb and slow so spamming sure affects it, but not that much if you have some ubber machine, which I think Murphy has, since he kinda sounds like a leet haxxored who I believe owns a customized computer, the only bad thing is that he lives in Australia....

It used to be that way with the skill in Tracking that let you call animals to you. Imitate, I think. You could spam it indefinitely and each time it added to the length of time you were off balance.

What's with the 'Don't be so hasty' messages and spamming walk directions?
Unknown2006-10-03 09:38:56
Everyone has a set walking balance so to speak.

It's a set number of rooms to can move per second.

Crow users get a bonus to this while in the air and have their trans skill active.

Stag users get a bonus to this on the ground and have their trans skill active.

I'm told there is a special artifact that helps out to, if memory serves it was in the first arti-auction?

Mainly, it prevents you from spamming to get from one place to another instantly. It's Lusternia's version of fatigue points.

This reminds me: there's a lot of room for mythbusting about the meaning of weapon stats. For instance:
- How much will better weapon speed matter if you're not a fast race? Where does it cut off?
- Does a higher damage weapon do more damage to mobs?

Melancthon managed to figure out the formula for speed and was told by Haj that it was accurate, if I recall correctly. I think there are posts about it in the various weapon threads.
