I thought it was neat how the first guildmasters and champions of a guild get an honour showing such.
I also think it's odd there's no real way to tell if a guy has betrayed his organization/guild before. I mean its pretty serious when you quit from champion of a serenwilde guild for example, and join Glomdoring. Shouldn't there be a way to have that show up on Honours? That way if you have a guy who constantly betrays his friends, everybody would know. People would be less inclined (or more inclined maybe) to join the enemy.
So my idea is that if somebody gains over a certain city/guild rank and quits, the leaders of the city/guild (like adminstrator/GM/Champ for guilds) have the option of branding the traitor's corpse. So since it's not a auotmated system thing, if it was only a simple guild switch, or the person isn't actually betraying his former loyalties then he wouldn't be branded. The person has to be restrained while being branded so I thought it'd be best if they were just dead, though maybe prone would work too.
The honour should be different for each organization too. For example the Serenguard require you to take on Oath in order to be considered a full member. So the honours line could be :

If I'm not mistaken, that could be done in Rapturescript by builder-types without requiring coding, the way you describe it.
I like the idea, but I'm guessing post #5 or so on this thread will be someone describing a way it could be abused to make people miserable for the sake of making them miserable, and Lusternia has more than enough shadenfreude already.

post 2/3 says its a great idea! although I came to this thread thinking it was for cartels.
Shiri2006-10-04 15:41:50
Same and same.

Since I am post number 5...it can be horribly abused and ruin peoples characters in game. I have no idea why, but if Gwyl says it does at post number 5 it must be true.
Noola2006-10-04 15:57:43
I think that'd be a way neat idea!
And, am I the only one who immediately thought of hot-poker-on-skin style branding when they saw the topic?

I don't think it would wreak people's RP, if they've jumped around in the orgs practically everyone already knows they are oath breakers, heck I can think of two people off the top of my head who left the serenwilde that this would be perfect for. *leaves* *attacks the avatars not even 20 minutes later*

Awesome idea. I'd like to see it implemented.
Nico2006-10-04 16:33:45
Me too, it'd be hard though. I mean, what constitutes betrayal? On the one hand, a leading member of the guild leaving to join a rival organization is clear betrayal. But what if someone goes dormant for a while, then comes back and decides to change his RP and switches orgs? Still betrayal?
I like the idea, but there's a lot of fuzzy areas that would need to be addressed.

Wouldn't that be up to the orgs?
Unknown2006-10-04 16:39:07
yeah that's why I said only the leaders of the organization would be able to do it. Though changing your RP and switching? How could the leaders have an IC excuse not to declare you a traitor if its like a celest/mag switch?
Nico2006-10-04 16:42:26
I guess, but I don't trust the majority of the playerbase to really be fair and just.
I mean, here's a scenario. Player A is Celestian and a leading member of the Aquamancer guild. He goes dormant for a lil while...not too long where he's been completely forgotten, but long enough where his renewed presence is noticed. After coming back, he decides to try something new and switches to Magnagora. He doesn't get branded an enemy for this move. For a while, he stays quiet, doesn't engage in PvP and mainly focuses on settling in. Time passes, and he begins to fight more and more. Eventually, the aquamancers of old get embittered for his constant raiding, and since he used to be one of them a long time ago, he gets branded.
To me, that seems kinda weird.
EDIT: Want to note that it doesn't necessarily have to be Celest/Mag. For instance, take Celest/Serenwilde, pre and post war. If someone left pre-war, and then war was declared, could he be branded then?

I was actually thinking of these same problems when I started this thread. Was about to suggest a time limit but then it's pretty much the same problem.
I'm kinda hoping people won't be jerks about it...

Nico2006-10-04 16:54:31
In my experience, people being jerks is inevitable.
Noola2006-10-04 16:56:43
There should be a time limit after which you can't be branded by that Org. Like if they aren't branded after a year or something, then it's too late. That way a situation like Nico described is less likely, but the time-limit is long enough so that whoever it is just doesn't not log in for a while to avoid being branded.
Unknown2006-10-04 16:58:30
Like I said, its still the same problem.
1)Guy leaves org, goes quiet and waits for time limit to be over.
2)Becomes a jerk
EDIT: Oh even though there is this problem, I still think the idea should be implemented. Everything can be screwed up by jerks, but we're doing okay so far.

Okay, so I miscounted. Cats aren't good at math.

Nope, So did I.
I think it would be a really good idea. (The marking as a traitor, not the scar caused by white-hot iron.) If they did the go-quiet-until-the-time-is-up thing, then they would be issueable, because they are obviously exploiting the machanics in a way that wasn't meant to happen i.e:Twinking.

That makes perfect sense... The person was not a traitor untill they started killing people. Time means nothing.

I like the idea myself.
