I'd love to see a Bard with the Absorption rune running around, to see how tanky they would be, with essentially a 48%-65% dodge rate.
the dodging is really nice, wish it affected bashing though. I miss being tanky

If bards are supposed to not wear greatobes when fighting, remember that your envoy can suggest new changes, such as a version of Splendor that is classed as leather armor instead of greatrobes, and is to leather what splendor robes are to greatrobes. The envoys exist for a reason.
Bards can make as much of a use of a tome as a wiccan/mage/guardian/druid, and more use of it than a warrior. The entire point of the tome is that you're giving up your shield to use it. It's a shield against non-Warriors. When I wield my shield against a mage, do I get any benefit from it? Nope.
Having to take lowmagic for poisons and herbs is a tradeoff that warriors need to deal with as well. It's just that - a trade off. Some people would gladly take +1 con over +1 cha anyway.
And splendor robes are still great for bashing no matter how you look at it.
Also, I hear that maestro instruments never decay once they reach masetro?

If you buy a shieldrune, you can wield a tome if you don't mind not having weaponparry. And you don't need weaponparry while bashing or fighting a mage/guardian/druid/bard/wiccan
I really think you should be able to weaponparry with your instrument. I mean to bards it's as much of a weapon as a staff or a sword

Instruments are supposed to be two-handed now, although I'm not sure whether this has already been done or whether it affects older 'prenerf' instruments. But because of the way instruments are coded, you can't buy a prenerf instrument from someone and I feel abusing that would be kind of lame.

They don't decay so long as they are played regularly. So, if you go inactive, they'll start to decay.

Ever thought that maybe she wasn't serious when she said that, and was just saying to show that if you -really- wanted t challenge her, she could further enforce realism?

You can instrumentbond a maestro instrument and when you play it every now and then the months go backwards.

Meh. Running around with a shield in one hand and a mandolin in another would be just plain stupid. The fact that you can play a mandolin, standing up, while holding it is already unrealistic enough.

Right.. because its not like shields are worn on the forearm or anything..
And its not like a 2 foot faeling can wield TWO 6 foot swords.
Seriously, Verithrax, stop trying to apply reality.
Unknown2006-10-24 22:06:54
Ya know, I think I'm willing to put up with a touch of unrealism in exchange for being able to shieldparry or weaponparry.
Vix2006-10-24 22:11:02
Yeah, if they can do all of those acrobatic tricks (especially handstand) while holding their delicate mandolin, let the bards play with one hand!

It gets stronger. InstrumentBond is essentially Cudgel, or staff, or symbol. Your damage will be more than doubled from what it is with a 0% instrument.
Actually, I think it is equivalent to nature curse/blast/cosmicfire. With my bonded instrument at maestro I now kill obesefessors in 7 hits of minor second, whereas before it took 5 hits of cudgel.
Until Elfen bards get their new/old racial specialization, I have lost 2 intelligence... but the drop from 17 to 15 is not enough to account for two additional hits, I believe. I wish I had nature cursed the astral critters to have a comparison.

Uh, no way that you can drop an Astral creature with 7 cosmicfires. It takes me like 6 from my symbol without crits.
