Yeah, it's not like everybody's gonna be a Bobby McFerren or a Beat Box. You need violins, lutes, flutes, drums, etc.
Wonder how much range we'll have in musical instruments.

How it 'hippie' music a genre? You mean the bards will have to get high before they can play their instruments?
'You must be stoned to play this song'
*eyeshift* How 'bout folk music then?

My, turn my head for a minute and suddenly lots of speculation!
All bards get the skillchoice of Illusions OR...
Commune bards follow more of a celtic pattern of true druid-type bards and thus we give them the choice to take hunting/ecology.
City bards follow more of a gypsy pattern and get the choice to take tarot.
I won't argue that hunting/ecology is a better choice for a combatant than hunting/ecology but really not everyone is a combatant. Those who take illusions (I imagine) are more interested in entertaining.
But needless to say, nothing is as it seems. We have plans in the pipeline to revampe illusions and break it out into two specializations:
1) Glamour which will be bards-only and follow more of the spectacle theme.
2) Phantasms which will be mages-only and be more of the phantasm-type mind illusions.
Sorry to intrude... continue your speculation....
I still think that my way of Serenwildes using instruments was funny. Also when I met a Seren they were usually either high or act high.
And by the way, did the Divine wisk away Nirrti or did she just leave?
Richter2006-10-08 01:50:42
I hope they can make instruments.

Tarot
Such an awesome skillset.

I hope instruments are generic, like "stringed, percussion, wood-blown, keyboard", etc. That way there's a lot of room for customization via cartels.
I wonder if there will be specialties for different types of instruments--a drummer having different effects than a lute player.

It looks like the specializations are based on locale.. but I really hope that, like, if the name for Glom's is accurate, I hope they aren't limited to drums.

Interesting. Guess we all get to put a few more hours into our systems... Ah well, still neat to see huge new things such as this.

I suppose they will be like this. And keyboards dont exist in lusternia. A drummer would make deep noises so he would either shatter/break bones. A stringed instrument, like a violin, would maybe cause effects like Dementia, passiveness, and such. Wood blown and flutes will maybe allow you to possess some people for an amount of time.

Tarot is just about the best tertiary skillset in the game, in my personal opinion. It has everything, an instakill, tons of utility skills (empress, hermit, starleaper), awesome combat support (aeon, hangedman)...
I can't see many people taking illusions over it, which just has illusions. But then again, if bards have no other way of making illusions, then it'll be kinda necessary for people who want to put on performances.
So... it becomes a quest of what matters more, being effective in combat and having an amazingly easy way to get around, or being able to actually put on a performance?

Aww, what about pianos. They could be on rollers and you'd just push them around. Or into people.
Shamarah2006-10-08 01:57:42
Well... tarot is an incredible skillset for guardians. We'll see how it works with bards, considering we know nothing of their skillsets yet.
Unknown2006-10-08 01:58:42
How do you know pianos don't exist? Of course, there's no such thing as a portable keyboard, and I can't see a bard ever being limited to one room--although I could see some manses having pianos.

If you did your system right, it prolly won't take more than an hour or so.

You don't need illusions to put on performances. Achaean bards showed that, given that they don't get illusions until after they're classed, and performances used to be a requirement to get class
Also, Estarra just said that Illusions was going to get a revamp, so, yeah. Don't discount it so quickly.

Nirrti really badly had to leave at a scheduled time that she'd informed Estarra about previously, and will be back very very soon! Sorry to everyone waiting with bated breath!

That would certainly break a few bones. Also on deathsite
Piano deathsights
'Player1 has been crushed to death with a piano by Player2'
'Player1 has been shoved into the way of a fast moving piano by Player2'
And so on.

Just when I'd thought I'd leave...a new guild comes. Looks like I'll go bard. Will be interesting being led by the Rainbow Princess.
