Oooh.
You mean like this (hypothetical)...
I wonder if there will be a market for outside songwriters to assist the bards. After all, famous singers don't always create their own songs.
Who approves new songs--the guild?
Also, does this mean we can now have a sing emote that seperates stanzas?! I always wanted that just to sing a song, and it now makes more sense to have that.
Sort of like that. But the effects are nothing like that. Its more like a 1 room portable demesne that only has a single active effect at a time, but that you can rotate through. Edit: And that takes upkeep of equilibrium and mana and ego at least every 60 seconds or it ends.
And the songs are limited to the bard who composes them. Its a lot like maneuvers for warriors.

I'll be deeply disappointed if Necroscream won't have a buff that will cause the bard and/or allies to headbang, which would work like passive headslam on enemies.
Unknown2006-10-08 13:03:09
Do we at least get to hear what you're singing???

Unfortunately you do. As a public sanity measure, I'm considering implementing disfavours for poor lyrical writing.

You definitely should.
Shamarah2006-10-08 13:12:02
Members of the guild should have to get their lyrics approved to ensure that we stay free of horrible things.

Maybe we should let the Glommies have some fun keeping something secret for now...at least when it comes to whole skill lists. Glomdoring and Magnagora are in a downswing--this might give them a competitive advantage since Serenwilde and Celest won't have it for 2 or 3 weeks.
Unknown2006-10-08 13:40:26
I didn't plan on posting them anyway

2 weeks is so long ... ig year. *slump*

I'm sure we'll get bits and pieces, enough to whet our curiosity. I just don't see the advantage to releasing the whole skill list and details right away. Do it gradually, to keep the sense of wonder.
If we ever get a thieves/scout/ninja archetype or the like I hope the same strategy is used to release it.

Bards should not be allowed to compete in the upcoming combat competition.
Also due to the extremely buggy nature of some of their abilities currently as well, not just the complete unfamiliarity.

Well, to play devil's advocate for a bit...isn't part of the contests being able to think quick on your feet and adapt to the unexpected?
Also, I really doubt any bards will be able to create an "uber-system" in time for the games, so it kinda evens-out. They're as inexperienced with the skills as you'd be with the afflictions.

Sylphas2006-10-08 14:51:35
Without a system, a lot of people will die to cheap tactics that would never work once they're used to them. Moondancers back in beta could kill many people with just their fae, which would barely scratch anyone now, even totally manually.
Shamarah2006-10-08 14:59:39
Bards definitely shouldn't be allowed to compete; they're apparently (I haven't experienced this for myself but I've been told) so bugged right now it's not funny. Apparently one of their afflictions that is supposed to do damage when you use a power feat kills you instantly instead, and one of their skills works world-wide instead of room-wide, and so on...

I see your reasonig and therefore agree
And I think that seeing as half of the Bards don't actually know what most of their skills do properly, or wether or not they are bugged and how they can exploit these bugs, then I think they should be allowed to participate. It would be a good oppurtunity to see what the bugs actually are, and then they can bug them straight after the battle, and they would probably get sorted out a lot faster than they otherwise would. And the Bards need to familiarise themselves with their capabilities on a controlled environment, why not a worldwide, justforfun Wargame?

You don't put broken classes in a contest, it's just not fun.

Then there should probably a kind of "Bard Testing Session" where they can try out their skills on NPC's that don't attack back, and on other people, so that they can see how well they work. You can't fight if you don't know what to fight with.
Sylphas2006-10-08 15:25:42
I figure that's what they're already doing. Finding people to test with.
