Subj: City Leaders Meeting

This Saturday, October 14, at 11 a.m. PST/2 p.m. EST (18:00 GMT), we
would like to meet with leaders of Magnagora and Celest to discuss
possible modifications to the conflict systems between Celestia and Nil.
Some questions to consider: Is this system working as intended? Is it
too onerous and driving away players? If so, how can the systems be
worked to moderate the stress levels? As we did with Faethorn (which
seems to have worked out well generally), we would like to hear what you
have to say and possible suggestions.

Penned by My hand on the 22nd of Dioni, in the year 159 CE.

Discuss.... cant wait for that... maybe nil can be made better
Diamondais2006-10-12 03:59:52
Hopefully all of your leaders get there and all suggestions get said.

A history lesson:

A while ago, we had a "meeting" about the Inner Sea. The purpose of the meeting was, "Hey! We're making the sea quests not matter anymore! Now that we're doing this, what can we do to finally make them balanced?"

Later, we had a "meeting" about Faethorn. The purpose of the meeting was, "We had an order from On High that says we're going to make Faethorn battles no longer happen! Isn't that great? We don't care that you all love them! So, what can we do to mullify the lot of you peasents?"

Now, we're having a "meeting" about Celestia/Nil. I predict it will end with demonlords/supernals either no longer attacking the star/necromante, or with them becoming invincible.

I'm really unhappy right now, but we'll see if I'm right or not sad.gif

Bah.

While the administration may listen to your concerns, they will either implement something only vaguely related to your concerns and more related to their pre-concieved ideas OR they will implement your suggestions fully BUT add a twist that makes it more tedious/more pointless than before.

Very little of recent history proves me otherwise.

Change Nil, make it a way that we can better defend for one

Another is probably doing several quests that'll either hinder or empower demon lords/supernals

that's all I can think off
Acrune2006-10-12 04:21:02
You know what this means, right? Celest won! We've been beating Mag so thoroughly that the admins are wooshing in to save them. Gooooo Celest cheer.gif

Alright, now that thats out of my system, please don't neuter all the interesting things about the game. There's got to be something left to play.
Ildaudid2006-10-12 04:26:36
Its probably not about that, its more about how celestia is far superior for defense wise and need to implement that into nil... it is a hard plane to defend
Estarra2006-10-12 04:27:52
Honestly, this is about the most unconstructive start to a discussion that can be possible. While it may feel good to rant about how you feel we "haven't listened" to you and wronged the game in our past decisions and so "why bother" to believe anything can come of this meeting, it does not exactly build an atmosphere where anything can get done except for one side to throw accusations and the other side become defensive.

Its easier to defend, but if you break the demesne (or if there isn't one there), its harder to take back.

I know Im not one of the City players, but for the Nil stuff..maybe not kill your people? Maim, sure, people can help you fix that. But not kill. And yes, I know that depends on their moods.

Yeah, that'd be fair. Though significantly less funny. And I like funny. closedeyes.gif

Destroying the star and necromentate are really neat features to the game. Those should definately remain.

I think the main problem in balancing the two and stress related factors are as follows:
-The room design strongly favours celestia in terms of defense (Acrune, you are dead wrong about easier to break if a non-aqua demesne is held there. You have instant access to multiple break points and can use whorish skills like psionic choke and currents from the pool)
-Cubixes make angel hunting entirely too easy. I can kill every angel with a huge group following me and be pretty much safe from death.
-I dislike the most recent changes to the supernals/DLs. The supernals/DLs fights should be longer and require skill. Astral banishment should be removed if the damage scaling based on number of people in the room remains. Better yet, a rework of their combat is my suggestion.

Edit:
-Disallow summoning OF ALL TYPES to the Pool and Megalith. The room is considered to be Celestian/Magnagoran territory and while it's not illegal to summon inot there offprime, it should simply be disallowed. This facilitates more dynamics in both offense and defense of the planes and half formed.
Edit2: To fix the cubix issue above, a quest to make the angels/demons vulnerable would be neat, provided it warns the attached org (celestines/nihilists) when the angels/demons have been made able to be slain. This would prevent the lame "pop in and out" cosmic plane attacks.

I just like the rp of it. Come on, maiming? I just don't think it would fit as well.. they're the DEMON Lords, we often have bloody sacrifices on crosses at the Megalith. IMO, it seems natural that if you make a pact with the bloodthirsty half-formed gods of Nil that you die in the process of gaining the powers they offer. Even the modern devils get your soul before they make you rich and/or famous. unsure.gif

If the changes are as good as the ones that came from the Ethereal meeting, this is an excellent idea! Congrats to the admin for braving the gamut again! divlove.gif

I agree with what Ixion said, although I don't know as much not being a proper raider. Is it possible to have a small neutral area on cosmic with both a cubix exit and aetherspace dock, and then have archways to both the Pool/Megalith (and then make them all on the same continent and remove the cubix exits to Nil/Celestia)? I think it would also be feasible to prevent wyrding/foresting on cosmic as long as dryad trees allow thornlash/vines/sap.

Edit: I would hope that if druid nerfs are discussed, there are at least commune envoys to provide a balanced opinion.
Forren2006-10-12 05:13:00
Since when is choke a whorish skill? It's annoying as hell, but I won't call it whorish. It's not like we can blackout for instakill timers.
Ixion2006-10-12 05:16:16
Choke whore + Lust = guards eat you alive and then say welcome to celest. Choke should be same room only anyway.

Next question?
Clise2006-10-12 05:29:10
Its say Welcome to Celest, then eat you alive. Get that the right way round!

I think you were at a different meeting than me.

I remember them saying, sorry, the code won't let us implement that, and then when the changes came in, they found a way to make the code do what we asked.

See Estarra, we just needed the right people to find the thread, now it is going to take off as planned wub.gif

I like the no summon/beckon of anykind into the nexus, but wont that just nerf Nil more, since we don't have currents and currents are not considered a summon or beckon? Its not like Magnagora summons people into the nexus at all really, I have not seen that happen very often, then again the way it is laid out Celest knows not to go all south. But with no summon/beckon of any kind, the already overly strong currents will just be used to sweep you into nexus. Oh and please no one respond with the 3 room radius thing, we all know you bypass that by setting your center 3 rooms away from the pool.

If currents can be fixed along with the summon/beckoning ideas I think it would do wonders and make people actually have to fight instead of shield and watch people die.
Shiri2006-10-12 05:49:04
Faethorn has been resolved and fixed quite nicely, IMO.
