Probably already been asked, but what factors affect whether you hit or miss an attack?

Looking at both hunting and combat situations.

I believe it's a combination of the skills of knighthood, your specializiation, combat, and the percision on your weaponry. That's just what I've heard, though.

Combat stance, size and dexterity also matter, as far as I know.
Unknown2006-10-15 12:18:24
I've heard precision of the weapon does not matter though.

Here's a definite answer:

PvE (bashing):
-Your racial specialisation.
-Whether or not you attack with a weapon you are specialised in.
-Whether or not you have the clumsiness affliction.

NOT dependant on dexterity.
NOT dependant on size.
NOT dependant on your rank in knighthood specialisation.
NOT dependant on precision. x2

PvP:
Everything for PvE, plus:

-Whether or not the bodypart you're attacking is parried.
-Whether or not the bodypart you're attacking is stanced. Stance effectiveness is dependant on the enemy's dexterity, but if you attack an unstanced bodypart, dex doesn't matter.
-Dependant on some obscure bard acrobatics defenses which I am not familiar with.

EDIT: Rank in knighthood/specialisation increases the weapon's stats (damage, speed, precision), but since accuracy is not dependant on any of these stats, rank doesn't matter.

It does not, it is used to determine wounds or some such.

And remember while bashing we miss.... we are the only class that does. No one else misses while bashing.

Oh and on a side note, I assaulted Nico 2 earlier today which cost me 8 power, and MISSED.... that is stupid, I can understand the missing... but not the power cost... if I miss don't suck up the power.

Precision most certainly -does- have an effect on accuracy. That said, the effect is negligable, to the tune of <1%. I use hammers and morningstars, with the morningstars just shy of max-precision (228 and 232) and the hammers max-speed but only about 100 in precision (very much hunting). My data is taken solely from hunting messages, for that concern. (I was meticulous to ensure this.)

I do not have the data with me now, but if someone reminds me when I'm logged in (Just send Hiriako a tell) I will post my statistics.

I have something like 4000 swings with hammers, 1000 with morningstars, which is statistically a good sample. Additionally, the creatures hunted with each were demographically similar.

My morningstars have an accuracy of approximately 95.7%, IIRC.
My hammers have an accuracy of approximately 95.2%, IIRC.

I have these values to the nearest thousandth of a percent.

NOT dependant on your rank in knighthood specialisation.

Is that right? That doesn't strike me as being right but that's not an opinion I have from experience so I'm not sure.
Hiriako2006-10-20 23:50:45
If it does depend on the level of skill in your knighthood spec, it's a minor percentage difference...thank the gods. Anybody who dealt with low level chivalry in the other realms knows exactly what I'm speaking about.
Daganev2006-10-20 23:52:46
It used to matter, then they decided to give everyone a 95% chance to hit, save specialized racies which get a 98% or something like that. Its all very strange.

Combat used to affect how much damage you did as well, and not just Knighthood.
Hiriako2006-10-20 23:57:08
For non-specialization weapons (Pureblade using rapiers, for example) it's an 85% chance to hit.
Hiriako2006-10-21 02:13:01
Just as a note, I was off on my data. Here's what I've obtained this level (77) alone:

| Hammer Hits: 5198
| Hammer Miss: 256
| Hammer Accuracy: 95.306%
| Morningstar Hits: 895
| Morningstar Miss: 19
| Morningstar Accuracy: 97.921%

Yes. Horrid. Good to know its not the case here.
Unknown2006-10-21 02:31:46
Wait so if I've got like an omni-inept warrior newbie low dex race I won't miss more then 5% of the time now, even with crappy weapons?
Hiriako2006-10-21 02:38:29
85% of the time in that case. 95% of the time with weapons of your Knighthood Specialization.
Ixion2006-10-21 02:45:28
Knighthood skill does affect to-hit. When I'm less tired I'll address the other posted errors.
