This is for minor things. Things about the spec skills and such are probably better dealt with through your envoy.
First, let me bang away again at the performance outfit idea. I want an alternative for robes.
Second, maybe SONGSTAT could show the next stanza?

I think there really needs to be a sing emote, that uses a character like a slash or semicolon to place each stanza on its own line. I watched Aia sing to the sphere and it's jarring to have to put stanza's on the same line. It will help with bardic flavor.

Do you have a log of her singing to the sphere?
Verithrax2006-10-15 16:17:03
I use slashes for separating stanzas regardless.
Also, can we please have deafness be harder to keep in the presence of a bard? With a deafness poison, faeleaf, and applying health to head, it's really way too easy to get sixthsense up again or stay deaf.
Making blank note untargetted and cause damage (Good damage) to all deaf people in the room might be a start...

Now that I've seen logs of singing, it's really annoying me. A stanza is NOT one god damn line. At least I can do it with illusions, if I burn a lot of power. (You can, right?)
Verithrax2006-10-15 16:40:58
Having them on separate lines in battle would make for very spammy fights (Bards can race through a song pretty fast). Personally I think it's best to just leave it to the bards that they write four-line stanzas separated by slashes.
ETA: There is a 75 character limit. The term 'stanza' is horribly misused here.
What about a skill to see the music effects active in a room?

I suppose. Also, it would be very possible to just make your 'lyrics' a bunch of affliction lines.
Verithrax2006-10-15 18:09:39
Yes, but I would hope the guilds would police that.
And if your system falls for an affliction line in a lyrics, then it probably also falls for emotes, says and so on...

If you could put newlines in your lyrics, I meant, instead of using slashes or something. Then it would be the same as your system falling for most illusions.
And yes, I'd really, really hope the guilds would police it, even as it is now, though it's not as much of a problem. It's just horribly bad RP and breaks immersion to an immense degree.

I'm personally, when the Cacophony writes its rules scroll, making sure something is put in there about that. The punishment should obviously be summary removal from the guild and enemying.

Not until the envoys know all specs, their skills, and all guilds are out.
Verithrax2006-10-15 18:42:29
True, but so much of bard offense relies on keeping people from being deaf that assembling an effective offense for them basically depends on massive use of blank note and squeezing in other effects when you can.
However, this might not be hard to do with a maestro instrument - Quite possibly the stun from blank note would be enough to make bards solo effective there.

Tetrodin is hopefully going to be taken care of.
And currently maestro instruments are bugged, so that their speed bonus is negligable.

I was wondering what the deal was with the word 'stanza'. Could this please be changed, because I can see it becoming confusing to novices?

What better word is there? Verse implies the same, and line sounds really dumb and OOC in my opinion. I don't really see anything wrong with stanza...
Sylphas2006-10-15 19:59:47
Verse would be better, since it's song and not prose. Line isn't OOC at all. Songs have lines. It would work better than stanza.
Unknown2006-10-15 20:02:40
In the scroll I wrote for the Harbingers, I put it this way
Baically just saying that for the Bard to sing and fight, requires a special format, considering how much power is wielded through their words.
QUOTE
It is advised that you take your time and practice, as writing songs in this fashion is somewhat different than for some random tavern or show. These songs of power require much shorter and precisely shaped lyrics to have such energy ring through, as well as to allow the performer enough freedom to act in other ways while still keeping the music alive.

Well, songs do have lines, but so does MUD output, was my point.
Sylphas2006-10-15 20:25:04
Um, so what's your point? Can I not shoot someone with my cudgel, because IRL I could also shoot a gun, which is OOC?
That works well for fighting. But what if I just want to sing a song without imbuing any powers? Can I even do that?

You can sing without imbuing. Thats how I test out my songs. Just, imbuing the lyrics adds more to it because you play the instrument differently. Allows you to give more of a tension, or a lightness, to what youre singing. I think what Fallen put in his scroll is that you shouldnt just sing any little ditty, you should sing something that doesnt make you look like a fool and at the same time, Glomdoring.
