Subj: Aetherspace Commerce Released!!

The gnome merchant traders can now be found in aetherspace, and you'll
notice new skills in the general aethercraft skillset. Basically, aether
monsters release a dust that can be traded to gnome merchants for
special commodities which can be sold back to the gnomes for gold. For
more information, see HELP AETHERSPACE COMMERCE.

Penned by My hand on the 12th of Tzarin, in the year 159 CE.

12.7.3 AETHERSPACE COMMERCE

Glaetherial Dust and Aetherholds
================================
When aether creatures die, they leave behind traces of glaetherial dust.
Aetherships that are equipped with an aetherhold can collect glaetherial dust by a qualified pilot. One aetherhold can hold up to 50 tons. Ships can have unlimited holds (though only one hold per room). Glaetherial dust quickly decays while in the aetherhold. Glaetherial dust can only be used to trade with the gnome merchants. An implosion will destroy the hold and release any gathered glaetherial dust into aetherspace.

Gnome Merchants
===============
Gnome merchants travel the aetherways in trade ships and can be found
throughout aetherspace. These gnome merchants will trade special commodities for glaetherial dust. These commodities have absolutely no use to anyone except gnomes and are stored in aetherholds. Gnome merchants will then in turn purchase these commodities for gold. Different merchant ships will buy these commodities at different prices, so it is possible to find lucrative trades by transporting commodities among the different gnome merchants.

Gnome merchant ships generally stick to their own sectors of aetherspace,
though some gnome merchants travel more widely than others. Experienced aetherspace travellers will come to know what locations to find these merchants. There is always a gnome merchant ship that keeps close to the Gnome Facility, a commonly known aetherbubble.

NOTE: It is not possible to attack gnome merchant ships.

Can aetherholds be in the same room as another module, or do they need their own room?

I'd guess they'd need their own room.

Dunno, it wasn't very clear.... The help file always mentions them being destroyed - do you have to buy a new one when that happens?

Already bought ye one, Anarias has it...
Gotta give one to Richter, one to Exarius, and Narsrim asked for one as well.

They're pretty cheap, only 25,000 gold each...

EDIT: Crap, I gotta stop saying "Ye" in real life. blink.gif

So does this also mean a "pirate" might be possible--can hold contents be taken out physically and taken to another ship during a boarding?

Not that I want insane conflict, but I wouldn't mind having some actual fear of pirates now and then...
Roark2006-10-16 00:07:36
The stuff they hold is destroyed upon implosion. The hold does not get destroyed. It is like any other module and so would need its own room.

Arrrrrrrrrrr

Avast ye matey, gimme your aether dust.
Tekora2006-10-16 00:12:47
Can you jettison your holds? After all, you never know when you'll run into an Imperial blockade.
Verithrax2006-10-16 00:15:02
It's a trap!

Speaking of which, I wonder if Richter ever considered renaming Deepnight 'The Death Star'
Unknown2006-10-16 00:18:32
One thing I'm confused about... you can trade the dust to gnomes for commodities, and then trade those commodities (to the same merchant) back for gold?
Unknown2006-10-16 00:19:28
No, different ones... I think some may pay more for certain items than others...so you'll have to figure out the optimal trade route.

Those of you with small ships will be disappointed as you apparently need an room empty of all aethercraft items to deploy the new miniature...of course, I haven't seen anybody set these up yet.

…and people wishing to attack ships will then be able to lay traps and attack said entrepreneurs.

Everyone gets what the want, creatures just became more useful, new trade opportunities opened up, there is more to do in aetherspace.. and we might actually see some aether pirates out there too. wink.gif

Sadly I can't get any of my IC friends to go out...Elryn, Exarius, and Ricther aren't around right now I guess...and I gotta go to bed anyway...

Unknown2006-10-16 00:26:59
Hmm, not to mention you'd probably need a crew, battle turret(s) and empath grid to kill the aliens for their dust in the first place. So no solo'ing and hoarding all the treasure for yourself xD

You could purchase my Aethercraft! Details listed in Ad 122, and Last Chance Trading Post! biggrin.gif
Unknown2006-10-16 00:36:20
But is there a way to transfer the stuff from one hold to another?

I assume the gnome items are the reason for that...they want to make it so people will want to keep the treasure in aetherspace, but they have no value outside the ship, to prevent "inside jobs" from occuring, since they will have no gold value outside of aetherspace.

Still around, Tully?
