Back to Common Grounds.

How large of a crew do you need for this? 2 or 3?
Verithrax2006-10-16 19:12:28
Enough to hunt... So I'd guess at least 3, probably more like 4 or 5.

Well, we wanted to have a way for players to earn gold in aetherspace. However, we simply could not have aethermonsters drop gold as that would just be absurd since there are unlimited aethermonsters and the economy would be wrecked. Therefore, you can accumulate the dust they leave behind and buy commodities from the gnomes (which we CAN control the supply of) and then in turn sell the commodities back to the gnomes for gold. Obviously, some gnomes pay more for some commodities than others, so this becomes more of a (hopefully fun) trading system than just a way to make gold bashing aethermonsters.

Thus, it's on purpose that the gnome commodities can't be used by players as they are in practice units for trade rather than having any practical purpose (though certainly we can assume the gnomes must do something with them). Giving them a purpose (i.e., using actual player commodities or injecting new commodities) would either cause havoc with the player commodity market or make a system so complicated that we probably wouldn't have been able to release this feature in any timely manner.

Its still very nice addition!!!

Lusternia should advertise more with its unique additions. Like influencing and aetherships.

I hope you wont stop at this and make aetherships even more fun and important.
And maybe make something with miniatures too. its quite unique addition too but not used much.
Maybe some ranking for best figurines like xp and explorer rankings??
Richter2006-10-16 22:24:03
Heck ya.

And also, maybe we could use some of those as tradeskill comms, the Charites allow more and more things all the time. I'd love a tempered ice suit of armour.

Edit: Actually, Estarra, could we add those as useable comms? Some of those would go really well in weapons and armour, and I imagine the gingerbread spice would make for some nice cookies...

Those would be really high priced exotic weapons/recipies then... sounds interested.

Actually, I like to think of the commodities as being "beyond" Lusternian character's knowledge. The gnomes in this game are kinda like the precursor race or the "scientists". (Ignore Newton--think of them as a lost and somewhat backwards community). That's also how I'd explain the fact that no Lusternian ship can affect a gnome tradeship. Think of it as NASA going up against the Starship Enterprise.

For a better analogy--think of the ancient Romans having to deal with atomic elements like Uranium or Plutonium. They certainly wouldn't have the knowledge how to make atomic bombs.

Maybe someday the gnomes can share some secrets. But not right away...

So when you kill an aetherspace monster and you have dust collector, does it auto scoop it or is it command based for the capn to gather it or something?

The commander has to PILOT SCOOP, which takes command chair balance. It's fun when you're fighting a group of ten beasts and you kill one and have to sneak past the group to grab the dust while evading the rest of the pack biggrin.gif
QUOTE
Is there a way to check your hold for how many tons you have?

SHIP STATUS tells you.
QUOTE
What is the decay rate? Is it worth having say 5 dust collectors to fill, or will it decay before you can fill the 5th one up?

Well, aetherbeasts drop on average about 0.5 tons of dust, and one hold can hold 50 tons, so you really don't need THAT many. Besides, there's a limit to how much you can effectively spend at once, due to the limit on how many of each comm a trading vessel has. Remember that you need a room for each hold, so though the hold SEEMS cheap, each one is actually 175,000 gold.
QUOTE
Oh and if it is a skill in Commander, how high up is it to gather the dust?

The skill is at Adept 0% in Aethercraft.

This sounds like a lot of fun! wub.gif

Darn, wish I didn't have to go to bed so I could be part of a crew...

Oh well, there's the weekend...

EDIT: Is this why there are a lot of extra Exclaimation points (!) on the map? Does this mean there's a lot of unclaimed dust out there??!

No, that's a bug, dust doesn't appear at range. Thanks for reminding me, I should go report it.
Laysus2006-10-17 13:11:25
Now all we need are quests running in aetherspace - like sending messages to gnome ships, or rescuing gnome traders, or taking passengers between aetherbubbiles >.>
Ekard2006-10-17 13:13:18
And bounty hunters!!!!

And lets make it like Privater game. Anyone remember it? I so love that game. wub.gif

Imagine advertising.

Come to Lusternia you can be a warrior, a politician or ... bounty hunter in wide aetherspace. YES, we have SHIP system. Not like other IRE games that just speak about making such system. tongue.gif
Laysus2006-10-17 13:15:14
I was thinking more like Elite.

Elite, Privater, Star Wars. Dosent metter, aetherspace can be so cool if more things will be added to it.
Damn if only those ships could be a little cheaper. closedeyes.gif

And if only I could find a crew. I couldn't get anyone together last night to go with me.
Cairam2006-10-17 18:51:52
I'd go with you. I just need to learn some aetherspace. But I'm saving my lessons for the Serenwilde Bards, darn it. Maybe after that. smile.gif

If Im around on Dylara, you can ask me. But I can only offer the basic skills sadly.
Shorlen2006-10-17 23:34:55
You know... we figured out something. Distribution is a REALLY powerful skill. So powerful in fact, that a crew of three is just as good as a crew of five. Using two turrets and a shield orb to power up the other turret, the grid, and the command chair is just as good as having those turrets acutally manned.
