I've been wanting to make a playground with swings and benchs and so on in my manse, but I can't do it because I can't have a room set to outdoors.
I'd be willing to even pay credits to get something that would allow me to change the rooms with a little arti or something.
Maybe a little command like: MANSE SET ROOM IN/OUT
I have to go to class now.. or I'd be more indepth. Stupid class

Good idea but also why not put those random stuff we see in a room like when there's an earth elemental it'll cause some rumbling on the ground or a Cavalier that'll salute whenever someone enters or leave. Why don't we put in also ambiance in our manses so it'll bring make manses more lively and interesting.

I believe the response for the last year or so has been:
"Request Denied."
Apparently, we should be happy with our neutral "aether" terrain and shouldn't push for any more special flags. Outdoor rooms don't have to be flagged as outdoors, they just have to look like them in the description: I had an outdoors garden at one point and was fine with it being flagged as indoors, I just used my imagination. It was a pain, but apparently the coders have consistently had too much on their plates to figure out how to let players set terrain flags through items.

It really shouldn't be hard. The code is already done, they just have to give us access to the build command for it in manses we own.
And it does matter if it's outdoor, because of furniture. Before that, I really didn't mind, but it breaks immersion when I can't stick a bench in my garden because it's actually inside and you can't put benches inside, even though it's not inside, as you can see quite clearly when you're in the room.
As for ambience, I have programmed illusions now, which helps a bit. Just wish I could actually use Script. It doesn't work in manses or communes.

Script only works in urban areas right? Well if They decide to let manses be flagged indoor or out, why not urban too?
Sylphas2006-10-24 14:44:26
It should work on anyplace with walls, urban or not.
Although I'm not sure how to tell something has walls without being able to parse the actual description, so that's just wishful thinking.

Why not just make all aether rooms both? Or is that harder to code? I really wanted to put a bench in my garden, but turned it into a lounge instead with a marble couch, closest thing I could come to.
MANSE SET ROOM IN/OUT sounds confusing, since we have 'out/in' rooms, would probably be MANSE SET INDOOR/OUTDOOR instead (just being anal here )

New addition to the aether shop! Along with aether room boxes, we can get aether room tables!
Noola2006-10-24 15:22:48
Aether room tables?
Unknown2006-10-24 15:55:08
If we're gonna be able to tag them as indoor outdoor and urban-non-urban, it would add a lot more versatility if we just had access to use the full range of building environment tags. Except maybe "nowhere". I wonder if that's the tag used in the Portal of Fate and other similar places...

It was a suggestion, not an announcement. Flag your room as outdoors as soon as you buy it, immutable once activated. The ability to change room tags in a live area is problematic at best.

What about all the people who already have large manses that intended for some of the rooms to be outdoor ones, though?
I think a new set of 5-credit artifact stakes should be created:
Stake of the Skies: Makes the room outdoors.
Stake of the Earth: Softens the ground enough to allow burrowing.
Stake of the Rock: Adds mountains to the room.
Stake of the Waters: Adds water to the room.
Stake of the Seas: Makes existing water in the room deep enough to dive in.
Stake of the Trees: Grows trees in a location.
None of these stakes would change environment type and would only set the appropriate flags (so we have no regeneration or herb issues) for proper terrain interaction. These stakes can be destroyed by the manse owner, removing their effect but giving no refund.

Oooh! I like that idea!
But you need an urban one too so people can illusion script if they want to.

These stakes don't actually change terrain type, so I think illusion script should just work on aether terrain.
Noola2006-10-25 16:56:55
That works too!
Sylphas2006-10-25 18:34:22
It should also work in Trees, which is basically "Forest with buildings".

I've posted numerous ideas and thread about how to revamp or add to manses to make them omfg-tastic, but the usual response is it's too hard, or they're too busy. Which, if you think about it, could quite possibly be true (well, maybe not the too hard part, but certainly they're busy).

Non-Urban, Water.... can camouflage in it...
Wouldn't those be the reasons they wouldnt do it??
edit - oh yeah if you make outdoor, could use a cubix in it.. another thing that may make them not do it... say Dysolis is on a crew and you ram the ship... and board it... there is an outdoor room they run to and he touches his "run forrest run" artie... and bam.... gone
