Just some random thoughts...
1. Try figuring your character direction first, and let that determine your skills, rather than the other way around.
2. Most higher-level skills tend to be geard toward combat. Therefore getting a broad smattering of low level skills is less expensive and may make for a more rounded interesting character.
3. Skill mechanics are nice, but emotes will help you through most ideas. Coming up with a new character 'quirk' can be a good way to define a change of direction and help 'snap' you into character.
4. Maybe you need to start a new story arc... perhaps say, an illicit love affair with some lonely divorcee from Magnagora?
Yay for yaying for being back. And by the way, I do know my general direction and the low-level skills idea is good too.
