#5 is emo as well...or is that just anger management?
Alger2006-11-03 02:58:20
Mitbulls actually if you take it from a writers point of view it does take quite sometime to develop characters. Gandalf was a character created over what five or so years? Anyway that's more of a tanget as the main point was the contribution of the character to the world he/she was created in. Take another example like the Dragon Lance series where character such as Raistlin, Caramon, Tasslehoff, Riverwind, Goldmoon etc etc are highly developed over a long period of time but as the story continues some of them die, be it through age or whatnot precisely because in that world there exists the concept of an end. Time moves and because of that characters move accordingly which all help into creating a fully developed world. The point that I was trying to reach out is the fact that a character's life is only but a single factor in a world and what happens to that character ripples certain effects into the world. Death in a sense allows a lot of other things to continue.

Seriously if you look at the game from the beginning to where it is now. How much has actually changed? Let's look at a character like Daevos. How much has he actually accomplished? After two or so rl years of fighting against the Light how much success has he actually had? Is he still fighting more or less the same people he did two years ago? Then for me the saddest part about it would probably be how is it all going to end for him? One day his player is going to get completely bored and go "screw this" and thats it(I think it's about time bro you have 10 years of sleep to catch up on). A story of stagnation which doesn't quite have an end. Then what happens to the people around Daevos, how are they suppose to relate to an inactive character? How are they suppose to relate to his accomplishments and failures? It's all just left hanging.

I've been meaning to! Someone give me a good order to read them in and I'll check the library when I go for my haircut on Tuesday!

The "Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn" books are a good read too. I've never understood the Harry Potter fanatics mellow.gif

I truly resent that. I'm almost never at the Pool of Stars, for your information. And group combat (aka raiding) is the only combat I enjoy in Lusternia. Just because I don't "go out and put my ass on the line all the time", doesn't mean I can't suffer from lack of raiding.

My bad, forgot you spend time in aethermanses... thats how your angel got whacked. closedeyes.gif
Sad that the only combat you enjoy is group combat? That is the simplest, cheesiest of all combat there is here. You must seem to enjoy it more because there is less chance of us targetting you in it and more chances for you to use web or some other as Ialie would say "rabbit" moves on people. Yes you suffer from a lack of the true experience known as PvP. Your version of "raiding" is pretty much the same as having your big brother walk you to school, you have backup and while he fights for you, you can throw dirt in the oppenets eyes... Then to top it off you are probably one of the ones who cheer when 10 people kill 1 person... and say "Take that!!"

So be it aethermanses or at the pool of stars, you sit and wait for your "big brother" to join up in PvP... That is a sad way to play... but.... hey to each his own I guess. wacko.gif
Gwylifar2006-11-03 03:38:39
If you look at permadeath as "everything's exactly like Lusternia, except this one thing changes," it won't work. Permadeath is a profoundly significant change in the whole fabric of the game.

Yes, dying will be costly and avoided. No, that doesn't mean people will never fight; it means they will only fight for reasons that are weighty and perhaps dramatic, and every fight will matter. Yes, you could lose an investment of time or money, though mechanisms could be put in place to mitigate either or both of these; but that risk is what makes it exciting and meaningful.

If all you can imagine doing in a permadeath is sitting quietly in a safe place in fear that you might lose your credits or skills, you really should get out more.

Umm, try... Book 1, then Book 2 then Book 3 then Book 4... it works wonders...

My problem would still be that you lose all of your other investments, other than RL money. If you spend a lot of time developing your character, and raising IC money for credits and the like, then you're killed, you're screwed. Ekard, for example, would be thrown back to being a completely newbie if he died.

Sometimes i wish that Ekard could die. And if bound credits would be bounded to account and we could create new char and use those bounded credits that would be awasome.
I dont have many things to do as Ekard so new char would be like i would discovering game once again. And i do not make alt becose i do not have time to develop him as with Ekard.
Even if after death lessons and credits from arties would be traded off lke normal. So 20% lose on lessons and 33% credits lose on arties.

I would love that system.
Only the best fighters would live long.

Oh, you're going through all that to pwn little o' me? happy.gif Well, it's all true. So... what now?

EDIT: Except, "Then to top it off you are probably one of the ones who cheer when 10 people kill 1 person... and say "Take that!!"" which was just a stupid thing to say and it's sad that you can't refrain from attacking me with false premises. tongue.gif

Personally, I'd also have liked a solution that said, "Do what you want, but if you start a war, we're not helping you. Hang out at the Aetherplex until you decide to stop being a dick."

No...we rogues don't want all your outcasts taking up the Aetherplex. Where else are we supposed to stand? tongue.gif

ZOMG, best series....ever.

I think I'm on my 6th time reading em over again, and I highly encourage, no, demand that anybody who has not read this series to do so promptly. Go. Now.

Btw, anyone know when the next one is coming out? I was a bit disappointed by A Feast for Crows since it only told half the story...

Yes you are famous for that... I had just done something simular (even though I cant spell) to Reiha. Ash just did that and said watch this AshCharm work... It was funny... but I killed a person not an ent. and the AshCharm didnt help me there... but the IldCharm + FainFavour + CityCheer worked wink.gif

Just putting things in perspective, I just hate it when there is a group attack 10v1 or 5v1 or whatever and someone rings out in the end something stupid... especially when I go back through the log and see they missed me each time.

I will actually apologize if you are not one of those types who scream dumb things at the end... It is just that most group only fighters have a tendency to do that. (Now dont let me see you doing that tho... because I just apoligized for nothing then tongue.gif )
