The only capture and ransom I remember is when several members of Lacostian's order caught and crucified two Celestians. One accidentally bled to death, and Rhysus accidentally killed the other in a rather poorly thought out rescue attempt (oh, right, hailstorm hits everyone doh.gif ). Capturing people just doesn't work unless they fully cooperate to the point of just doing whatever their captors ask.

Doesn't it only hit enemies?

It was changed to do so a good while ago. Back then it hit everyone. Yay useless tongue.gif
Genos2006-10-26 16:53:07
It used to hit everyone.

EDIT: Argh, ninja'ed.

Why not? Cause they might die? Well, if you were going to Bam Squish them anyway, then what's the harm? At least it wasn't boring.

I think I agree with Shorlen on all of this. losewings.gif

EDIT: To explain, I think that we essentially have surrendered. Look at the wording "Serenwilde has agreed to our terms." Well, a lot did vote against it. Yes, I wanted the war over and I voted for their terms, but we HAD a revote and the rest decided not to. So, now, we've just done the opposite of what was voted for.

Yes, I keep hearing how this new law won't be bad, and I can see how if I'm understanding correctly it's not. Just, it feels like already we're getting kicked by it. I don't think that Celest understands that we said we could hunt angels, or at least that's my understanding. It's just if it gets to be a group "two or more, most likely" then we have to stop and get hit on the head. Perhaps Celest understands perfectly and I'm just the one having problems. Who knows.

Imperian has that awesome Hostage skill sad.gif Trans predation, must be hidden (the kind that thirdeye doesn't see through), delayed skill, resisted by vision (discernment). If it succeeds, you sneak up behind them and put a dagger to their throat. If they move or do anything, you slit their throat and they die. If you EXECUTE (target), they die.

You can also riffle through their pockets, but that gives them a chance of getting away, but you can get some small item from their inventory (which is useful for WolfTrack, where you have your wolf smell a possession of someone else, and the wolf runs (teleports) right to the item's owner (with you riding on her back, of course).

Tons of interesting skills in that skillset.... I wish Lusternia had tons of interesting skills in each skillset, rather than spreading them as thin as they can get away with (lusternia has about 33% fewer skills in each skillset than the other games).

That does sound like a neat skill!

But there are plenty of ways to incapacitate someone in Lusternia. I mean, correct me if I'm wrong, cause I don't know much about the skills I'm talking about, but wouldn't it be super easy for Someone A from Magnagora to decide to sacrifice Someone B from Celest to the Demon Lords in retaliation for going on a raid which had resulted in the Demon Lords dying to gather a bunch of other similarly minded folks together, decend upon Someone B, get them all afflicted up, use dominate to make them follow then scoot back to Magnagora, take them up to Nil and have the horrific ritual resulting in their death? (for example)

And doesn't each city and commune have a guild with some sort of similar ability to dominate?

Yes, said victim has a chance to escape. Yes said victim's friends have a chance to rescue them... But isn't that where the fun comes in? The chance it won't work? And if it does, you've killed said victim, just like you'd wanted to only in a much more fun way.

Where's the bad?

I'd like to correct a common misperception: We did not vote FOR war, whatever anyone says. That referendum was a vote on a specific treaty. I voted against it not because I wanted to be at war, but because we would extend protection to angels but not demons. You can't hold up the results of any of these referendums as "We voted for war," because we didn't, even if that was the effect. It's a stupid political trick, and I'm not going to stand for it.

Tarot has a skill to force a follow (Emperor). Psionics has a skill to cut off communication. Night has a skill to prevent magical teleportation (Bonds). Magi have a skill to lock doors (Magelock).

Serenwilde has no way of forced movement beyond using headbutts on someone who is sleeplocked, but no way to get them to a manse or guildhall. Possess lasts ten seconds and gives every action a one second delay - there isn't much you can do in ten seconds. I suppose Serens can use pooka to force the FOLLOW command, but using that advantageously is VERY hard.

But doable right? I mean, just cause something's hard doesn't make it impossible or not worth doing. And heck, why not give whoever you're kidnapping a spore after they're nice and afflicted and then pooka them to snort it or whatever and have it go to a locked room, follow them in and then drop a monolith. Tada! Kidnapped. biggrin.gif

That'd work, right?
Anarias2006-10-26 18:44:17
I'm not going to say much because everyone's going to believe what they want to believe anyway. What I will say is that the Serens who wanted to continue the war failed their cause miserably. In a war, you do more then defend. You need a plan, you need to get people organized to carry out that plan and you need to take the fight to your enemy. If all you did was defend the Etherwilde, occasionally harass some angels and interpret the referendums to mean things that they did not mean then you don't have a leg to stand on.

It isn't a surrender. I worked damn hard for a long while to work something out and while no outcome was going to be exactly what either side wanted I think we got one of the best possible outcomes.

Also, people could actually roleplay out that hostage scenario. It would take a little planning OOC of course but such little events can be a lot of fun. Some prominent member of either side could agree to be "detained" by the other and subjected to interrogation, torture, or just used as a bargain to save face for either side. You could pre-plan the escape scenario for the hostage, or just let that part play out as it will. I see lots of potential in it.

Of course my hostage plan is based off of an idea, not even sure it would fit in this situation because I don't know all of the background and things that may have already been done in the past between these two orgs. I am just an newbish outsider, so don't beat me if this idea sux.
Noola2006-10-26 18:54:27
Oh there isn't any particularly planned situation. I was speaking hypothetically. But wouldn't it be fun if something like that were to happen? Much more fun than Bam Squish.
