I’ve skipped through a bunch of this thread, but I must say:
Serenwilde did surrender. While certain Serens would of course never surrender under any circumstance regardless of how bad they were losing, clinging to the fact that it is not possible to truly “destroy†Serenwilde in Lusternia anymore than it is possible to destroy the Tosha Monastery, the Catacombs of Urlach, or the Astrosphere of Pisces, the Serenwilde government presented to Celest terms that could be read in no other shape or form than a surrender.
Now... I encourage Serenwilde, if it as a whole so truly disagrees with said surrender, to contest! I for one am disheartened that Serenwilde has been so wussy. Bring forth the wrath of Mother Moon and the White Hart! *war-bellow*

That's a point.
How come everyone who's so unhappy with the leadership doesn't contest it? I've seen all sorts of comments about disliking the leadership's stance or how the leadership did this or that or didn't - if it's so bad, why not try to fix it?
Just curious.

You fail to realize the true story behind the war, which is also the reason that even if the few people who cared enough contested, nothing would change.

To answer Noola's question, these people would rather:
1. Whine on forums with esoteric responses.
2. Save their gold. Unpopular people don't win elections.
3. Enjoy their peace. I'm fairly certain most of Serenwilde hated the war.

Because it's much easier to complain than to actually DO anything. No one ever contests. It's the bane of being a Lusternian leader: everything you do sucks, but no one seems to be willing to take your place, after all, who wants to be complained about constantly?
Anarias2006-10-30 21:47:20
I've told people to contest if they are as unhappy as they say they are. I've poked and prodded and questioned and interrogated people for ideas and suggestions on what to change and typically get little in response.
The problem someone would face if they contested and wanted to go back to war is that they would have no military might to employ in said war. Serens aren't willing to fight offensively for the most part so it would return to having druids meld Etherwilde to await the next raid.

Trust me, you'd rather not know. But they'd make Guido proud. And Sano.
Sylphas2006-10-30 22:20:22
Hmm. If they were ever to have a child, they could call it Guano. That amuses me to no end.

Except that Guido and Sano do not mix. They're like Plan 9 From Outer Space and - two different brands of awful. No offense to aforementioned guys - well, maybe a little bit.

Phew. And here I thought Charune will bug me about the first 5 worst ideas too.
Okay, I'm going to sleep now so don't expect any more Cuber-answers for about 12 hours.

Anyhoo, I just wanted to point out as I attempted to imply:
Serenwilde doesn't want to fight because by and large, most of the Commune (and this comes from someone who was a Seren for a very long time) despises anything whatsoever that requires or demands combat-based attention.
There are people who will always say they will stand up and fight, but in reality Serenwilde has at most 3-4 devoted fighters. Tuek being chief among them who hasn't been around very much lately (at least not that I've seen).

That's actually wrong. There are more than 3-4 devoted fighters.

Actually, much as I hate to admit it, Narsrim has a point. There were a few of us who were willing to fight, and a lot of people who VOTED to keep fighting, but there weren't enough people who were motivated to take part in the combat. One of the large problems I think is that the leaders of the commune were not them selves motivated to take part in the war, which trickles down.
As for not contesting, part of the problem is in the mechanics. As a Moondancer, I could either contest Tsuki as GM or contest Nejii as Regent. Tsuki was GM for longer than I could remember, and she was a very good one even if I did disagree with the handling of the issue of the war. Contesting her would have been extreme, and hardly anyone (if anyone at all) would have had a chance in winning. The second option is Nejii, who again has been a respected leader for a long time. I disagreed with him, and still disagree with the way it's all being handled, but most of the Serenwilde still supports him in the position, and even those that don't probably don't see this war as a big enough reason to vote someone else in.
I would probably be more likely to contest the leaders from one of the other two guilds, primarily because they seemed to be spearheading the decision, and they are not as experienced or entrenched in their positions. Contesting them wasn't an option, though.
