I had 1 minute to use an alternate PC, but it looks like this was setup to help counteract militant rejections.

Subj: Guild & City Elections

From this day forward, those who challenge a guild leader (Guildmaster,
Administrator or Champion) will be afforded the same protections offered
to a High Elder Guildmember--it will take all 3 guild leaders to
outguild the challenger. This is to protect guilds from nepotism.
Further, challengers will likewise be afforded the same protections from
getting uncitizened or ostractized that guild leaders enjoy--it will
take 3 members of the city or commune council to remove a challenger
from the city or commune.

Finally, those who challenge the city or commune leader will also be
afforded the protection of requiring 3 members of the city or commune
council to be removed.

Penned by My hand on the 17th of Klangiary, in the year 160 CE.

Probably would've helped Verithrax in Magnagora.

Woo!
Sylphas2006-10-29 18:56:04
Good, so when I piss people off enough, I'll just contest to eek out that last little bit of time. Verithrax wasn't kicked out because he contested, be contested because he was about to be kicked out.

And when you lose, simply contest again. ninja.gif

Yep, if you have the money, and not all of the guild leaders hate you, you're set. And that's not as unlikely as it sounds, looking at recent events.
Daganev2006-10-29 19:09:29
If someone did that, and I didn't hate them, I would still oust them.
Estarra2006-10-29 19:22:15
If someone is being a jerk and contesting just to keep from being outguilded (and has an ally guild leader who won't agree to outguild them), you could always appeal to the city/commune council to kick them out.

Not that I think this sitiuation will ever happen, but if it did, wouldn't they still remain in the guild, even after they are ostracized? You don't need to be in a city to be in a guild...

From what I gathered from a conversation with Verithrax before he quit the game, he was never informed he was going to be kicked out of the guild. There were some issues with how he treated some city members, like Stagar and Mayu, which he and Aia supposedly resolved somewhat. As soon as he contested, he was then thrown out.

Edit: I like this change though, since it's odd to outguild someone just cause they're contesting. If you're worried they might actually win, then maybe you're doing something bad as a leader, if you're not worried about that, then why bother outguilding them?

And if they're ousted from the city/commune, the Council could probably have talk with all three guild leaders to not allow them to continue their membership in the respective guild. You can't have a semi-rogue wandering around with access to an organization's guild aethers.
Richter2006-10-29 19:48:47
Because sometimes popular idiots win over good leaders.

Not that I agree with kicking people out for contesting, I was just answering your question. tongue.gif

If you arn't in the city, you can't contest for a guild leadership position.

Oh, I agree with the change, I'm just saying I'm going to believe someone who has never lied to me over someone I met a year ago on an internet forum. wink.gif

Aia herself said she outguilded me for contesting, and wasn't going to outguild me in the first place. Sylphas, you weren't there, you knew nothing about what happened, so stop assuming that my outguilding was justified or that it happened because of my 'attitude'. I have nothing against you and can't even remember the last time I spoke to you in-game, so just let it go. Even though I think this new system is a bit too much protection, it's definitely better than what we had before, in which a GM can stay in power indefinitely until he's removed by a city council.
Xavius2006-10-29 22:14:02
I think a better solution would have been protection against outguilding from the person being contested. That way, it'd still be just one vote unless they were a high GR.

Due to events in the past in glom and mag I agree this was really needed. spoton.gif
Verithrax2006-10-29 22:23:22
I'd say just reduce it to two officials wanting to outguild. There's no stopping three guild leaders who are working together from completely overtaking a guild, anyway.

I'd so outguild you, darling.

Sylphas, I don't know what Verithrax did to you, besides exist, but please knock this off. It's getting aggravating. You're not in the guild and just because you speak to Aia OOCly doesn't mean you know the whole story. I've heard from more than one source that she wasn't going to outguild him until he contested. Aia herself even said it, so bugger off.
Sylphas2006-10-29 23:52:55
I just find it hard to believe that she would blatantly lie to me. I like Verithrax, OOC. I'm just annoyed when she gets hated on in the forums where she can't defend herself. I've seen her go through too many characters where one silly mistake cost her much more than it should have.

Bleh, normally I'm pretty mellow, but you've found one of my angry buttons. sad.gif
Verithrax2006-10-30 00:09:32
Well, Aia has told you and I different things.
