From what I have now experienced, I am not real hip on some of the aspects of any favours.
True Favours, Strong Favours and High Favours, when combined with Tracking cause a serious disadvantage to those Trackers lacking them. When one has a favour they can lay god like traps that cannot be seen and cannot be disarmed. The only counter to this is when the favour has worn off, or someone with an equally high favour comes to disarm them.
The problem I see is this, there are certain org's that are handed out TF's like candy, alot of the fighters from these org's may very well be walking around with 2 stacked TF's. If said fighter is a Tracker, they have just now, by no fault of their own just disabled all other trackers from disarming their traps.
Magnagora gods do not give them out as often. Nor do they stack them. The reasoning for this could be many things, I am not going to speculate why they do not.
But herein lies the problem. Lets say for instance Joe Brown from Celest has a TF, he can lay traps all over Celestia, Nil or wherever and no one can see them or disarm them. Now Billy Smith from Magnagora has no favour, he comes to Nil, Celest or wherever to lay a trap. The prompt says there is already a trap in a room where he can see none, and when he tries to disarm this "invisible" trap he cannot (It says the traps are so divinely made that it is impossible to disarm it). So he knows what is causing this now and he beseeches his god for a favour to counter it. His god if so inclined (and rarely are they inclined in most places, since they do not dawdle in mortal affairs... or at least Magnagoran gods don't) grants him a SF. The SF is not enough to counter the TF. He beeseches again and if the god is still willing to help takes away the SF and grants him a TF. When Billy Smith tries now to disarm the trap, he still cannot. He finds out that Joe Brown has 2 TF's stacked. This leads him not able to use his transcendent skill to help either A- Defend/Clean up his own territory or B- Help in a raid.
With this said, I don't know what can be done about this. But all in all the use of TF's and stacked TF's is now allowing org gods to enable/hinder transcendent trackers. And I for one do not think this is right. I have spoken with Vesar about this also, and he doesn't think this is a good thing either. He would not like to try and defend his plane and basically lose a skillset due to some other tracker having one if not 2 TF's.
When you invest into transing a skill, it should not be so easy to make the skill useless. Right now aqua demesne's are bad enough at rendering a Tracker useless. So please figure out a way to make it so Trackers can still work when the opposing Tracker is bouncing with favours, be them stacked or not.
I hope I am not wrong in thinking that this is a little upsetting.
Please, discuss.......

sounds buggy to me.
Have you tried bugging it?

Its not a problem with favour itself but with making skill level to go over Transcendent level. It shouldnt happem. Favour would boost your skills only up to Trans but should not get it higher then that.
I think what you posted is a bug.

Interesting predicament.
Ildaudid2006-10-31 19:43:38
You think? I have bugged it but never got a response and that was weeks ago. So I just assumed, especially by the lines it gives you when you try to disarm an invisible trap that it wasn't a bug.
Either way if it is a bug, it can only really be abused by Divine right?? So I won't get into too much trouble for posting my concern about it here will I??

Yes, bug it, and we can use this thread to speak about those people who have no gods to favour them anyway.
Actually, that's kind of a lie, even when Viravain was alive and kicking, she never gave out more than regular favours unless it was some INSANELY special occasion. Think Shayle got a TF when she joined Vira's Order, and that was the last TF I had seen from her.

Incorrect. Favours are intended to boost skills over transcendent. This enhances the damage of certain abilities that are based on skill level. Things like Symbols, Cosmicfire, Moonburst, etc. Basically all primary bashing abilities. Warriors also get a bonus too, just as someone transcendent is more accurate and does more damage then someone mythical.
Shorlen2006-10-31 19:50:08
I remember in Achaea that Sentinels would try to get as close as possible to trans without hitting trans, then learn 15 lessons all at once to push them 14 lessons past trans, so their traps couldn't be disarmed by merely trans people.

Ahh but should it make a skill basically useless to one without a favour?
Ekard2006-10-31 19:52:45
Still sounds buggy to me.
IMHo it shouldnt boost your skills above Trans.
If you not trans then its fair, if you are trans already then you still have other bonuses from a Favour.

If you're getting a response when you try to remove the trap which says, "this trap is divinely made", then it's a bug. Might not be the bug you want it to be, but should still be bugged.
Ildaudid2006-10-31 20:09:00
This is the line received.
Though you detect that the tell-tale signs of a trap, so cleverly laid is it that you are unable to locate its mechanism in order to disarm it.
So if it is a bug, why make such a line??
Narsrim2006-10-31 21:16:05
It works like this in various skillsets. For example, you cannot dispel illusions of a mage who is trans + favor if you are trans.
Noola2006-10-31 21:25:39
Noola's only been Truefavored once, and that by Terentia and was during a mass favoring of everyone in the city because of some event I can't think of at the moment... and she got a Highfavor (or maybe it was a Strongfavor ) from Lyreth once too - didn't ask why, but I assumed it was for the Festival.
Only quasi-on topic, I know. I must not be doing something right though if favors are being handed out 'like candy' and I've only ever gotten two...

Well dispelling illusions does not hinder 85% of the illusions skillset. So as it stands, if it is not a bug, then the divine can manipulate Trackers so they are rendered useless by favouring other Trackers. So if you are not part of an order or a city/commune with divine who hand out favours you are basically screwed over. The tracking skillset is bad enough as is with the nerfs being done and the upgrades not going through. I dont think it is a good idea to hinder it to practically useless due to divine interference.
I guess I could go in game and start hounding Fain and Morgfyre for 100 day TF's but I have a feeling that I would be zapped. Favours in Magnagora are really hard to come by, and I just don't think that a favour of any kind should make a complete skillset damn near useless.
Unknown2006-10-31 21:29:04
That really sucks that the double TF's of someone else are making you unable to lay traps on nil to defend from the people who laid the traps there in the first place.
I remember some glom trappers covering lots of faethorn back when it came out, we didn't have anyone to disarm for days, it really sucked. Course that's back then those snakes were immortal too.
Think Shayle got a TF when she joined Vira's Order, and that was the last TF I had seen from her.
I got a TF when Lisaera left, and I think that was the only TF I ever got from her. I'm much more sad about the leaving then the favouring though. I hope Lis is happy in Aetolia.

No it's just that you are also not one of the main lines of raiding/defense when it comes to your city. Some commune/city members are handed these for defense/raiding capabilities since they constantly do one or the other. You are doing everything right except not leaving celest to join the kalas family
Unknown2006-10-31 21:30:42
Well.. that's kind of idiotic. I don't mind damage skills being boosted above trans, or even some illusions that cannot easily be dispelled (unless you mean things like terrain) but basically making it -impossible- for another tracker to disarm a trap without divine interference sounds terribly wrong.
It might not be a bug per se, but it is something that should get changed IMHO.
