Renting the game for the win! At least you get a taste of it, andd while you wait for the price to come down, you'll eventually save said money.
Shiri2006-11-02 14:39:26
Psh, I might if it would work on my PAL PS2. dry.gif
Noola2006-11-02 14:43:33
If it makes you feel any better Shiri, I don't even have a console so I can never play the game. biggrin.gif

It doesn't. But I appreciate the attempt. halo.gif

Prices have gone down a lot since a year ago. ninja.gif

I love the game so far. The Hunt system, gambits, and the fact that I didn't play the story portion of the game for a few hours (I ended up stealing like 5000 gil worth of items trying to level up to kill the second hunt monster alone. sad.gif).

It's definitely worth the buy, even though those censor.gif at Gamestop had me buy the Collector's because apparently everyone else pre-ordered the regular edition. Oh well.. the tin case can sub as a coaster or something. happy.gif

Here's the big question.

How does it compare to the other FF games
Nico2006-11-03 19:06:22
I got it at midnight release night, and so far I love it. It's so F-ing hard, though. I have the full party now, levels around 13 or so. But dammnnn, bosses kick my arse. Especially the marks. I've done three marks, (tomato, wolfie, cactuar) and the ones after those are ludicrously hard. (like, wipe out my entire party in under 10 seconds)

Fought a judge boss, he killed 4/6 of my party members. Another boss battle is simply you running the censor.gif away from a trio of headhunters through an entirely populated dungeon. 5 of my guys died, and the only one who made it out had under 100 health at the end.

Combat system takes a bit of getting used to, but I think I'll like it a -lot- once my guys specialize a bit more. Overall, it strikes me as a bit of a mix between FF online, lusternia (with the triggered gambits), and typical FF games. Character advancement is completely freeform, you can turn your main guy (or any guy) into a thiefy, magey, or tanky type. It's all up to you, which is nice.

I've played all of the latter FF's, starting with 7. Didn't play X-2, though. Loved 7, 9, and X, hated 8. So far I love XII, the story, graphics, gameplay...everything is just awesome. smile.gif

Gives me something to do during my lusty break.

EDIT: I dunno if I mind the changes to the victory fanfare. I've always wanted that as my ringtone, but haven't been able to find it sad.gif

I like it better than the other FFs. Some treasure chests are completely random in dungeons (Like I saved a game and then died or something.. and the chests were returned and had different items. Gil/potion-types).

A tip if you play: Always steal if you're able to fight your enemy comfortably. At least steal until you get something. Stuff doesn't drop gil (As many of you may know already), but stealing + a regular monster drop can double up on your gil easily. Plus I think if you steal there's a chance of getting the monster's secondary or third item (Recently I ended up getting a defense +20 robe and had to learn on the license board to like.. level 4 mystic armor to wear it, but it's damn worth it).

And yeah.. license board is odd. I have 100-some points stocked up on Vaan and like.. 200ish on everyone else because I don't know what I want to learn.
Veonira2006-11-03 20:22:08
Ohhh different treasure chests? NEAT! I love little things like that, they make games have much better replay values.

I'm so jealous, I know I won't be playing this until christmas time though.

Final Fantasy XII is the best movie I've ever seen. (The gambit system is nice too.)
Veonira2006-11-03 20:55:50
By movie I'm assuming you mean game? tongue.gif

Wait until you meet the Garudan outside The Tomb of Raithwall. He's SUPER hard.

Spoiler for Gorky:

Silly, you're supposed to talk to the Moogle after you kill the Urutan Eater!
Unknown2006-11-03 23:54:51
What Urutan Eater?
Vix2006-11-03 23:56:28
The big turtle thing?
Hiriako2006-11-04 03:56:41
I killed those headhunters... biggrin.gif

If you're having trouble, I -highly- recommend going out of your way to get quickenings on the license board. Even just having the level one for each person makes battles a lot easier when it comes to bosses. Much, much easier.

Just saw a commercial (I swear its gotta be the only normal one we air, whats with all the gore/stupity commercials lately Mr. Government?) it looks awesome. Id like to get it, but its unlikely. Maybe Narid'll get it.
