On the same sort of topic, we need some reason to use letters over messages. Right now, there is no reason beyond giving items or such.

I do actually get letters from time to time - but they tend to be the sorts of things that can't be written in one paragraph (which is the effective limit for a message). But yeah, more use for letters would be good.

Delete the ability to message other players, force letters to be the only form of long term communication.

*hiss*
It would be good rpwise though, but not convenient OOCly
Astraea2007-01-14 07:12:39
Designate messages as completely OOC then. That'd work.

Doubt it...
Would be cool if I got new abilities though ^^
I just hit Mythical in Bookbinding, and depending on how long the city credit sale goes on, I might even Trans it sometime soon... Can't wait to whack people with my almighty Tome or Magiclyness!! =D

Thats the point.
Do it already

Please don't take messages out. It's still a lot easier to look through two dozen messages for the three that you need to reference than to do the same with letters, especially with the ability to read messages on the website. It'd be nice though to extend the usefulness of letters with stationary, seals/signatures, and copying!

There are definitely uses for messages, and I dont think they should be removed completely. However, they *should* be designated as OOC, completely (anyone who disagrees, please present your case?) and there should be some reason to use letters... just cant think of it right now.
EDIT:
Elysiana, your post reminded me of something someone thougth of a while back. First off, being able to title letters - that is, when your look at them in your inventory, you see not only "A letter" but "A letter called 'blahdeyblahdeyblah' ".
Also letterlist :-D.

One of the major reasons I've had people send me messages IG is for sponsorship into Serenwilde. It's usually one sentence, and I just need to be able to find the three messages easily so I know they really do have those sponsors. Using a letter for a one sentence message seems a bit overkill to me, even if you have something like the letterlist you suggested. (Though who knows, maybe it'd make people a bit more picky about who they sponsor, since they'd essentially be paying 100 gold to say it.) Also, using messages in this case works, while using letters doesn't, because of how easily letters can be faked to come from someone else currently.

I use letters for messages I want to be longer since there is a smaller limit on messages, or when I want to send things anonymously or give someone something (gold, herbs they dropped, something I forgot to give back, presents, etc) and they aren't in the realms right now
Sylphas2007-01-15 02:03:44
Simple: Have a 120 character limit on messages, as we do with market. I can't think of anything that really needs said through a message can't be done in that.

Ooh, I just idea'd this a couple of days ago. Would be an awesome addition for us bookbinders! Would be great for sorting, too, since I use magically preserved letters to store things in.

I wonder why this wasn't suggested as a new feature thingie...

Too bad they never read ideas. They get a lot here on the forums, and IG they probably have to deal with:
IDEA "lolz add assassin guild plz"

They do read ideas, actually.
But yeah, some of the ideas are like that...

Love the idea of signet rings and sealing letters. That would be so cool. Cooks could make wax maybe, jewelers the rings. Need a tinderbox and then press the ring to seal it. Nifty

Hell no, some of us hide in our manses all day, and can't receive letters.

Some other thoughts I've had on things that it'd be nice to be able to do with letters, which might be appropriate for bookbinders:
-Copy a letter, so you can give a copy to someone else and keep a copy yourself.
-Sign a letter. Right now it's rediculously easy to forge letters from someone else. It'd be nice to be able to know that this letter really did come from a particular leader or whoever.
-Have multiple people sign a letter/document. This would be good for official inter-city/commune business, since letters could be sent that clearly show who's involved and treaties could be written down and signed like in the real world.
-Signatures might also be replaced by seals. If you make something it gets your 'mark' already, could we get signet rings or stamps that we could use to attach a seal to a letter that would also bear the same mark?
I think there might've been more, but it's late and I'm tired so I've forgotten anything else already.

1. You can cut and paste to do that
2. I like this, maybe have the signature in a partiular color so we know it's done by the system
3. See above
4. I like this too
