I would like to remind everyone that the awesomest holiday ever concieved by violent and murderous british people occurs in two days. Celebrate! Burn someone forty decades dead in effigy!
Sing along with me (while setting straw effigies on fire, and then hanging them by their necks):
Remember, remember,
The fifth of November,
Gunpower, treason and plot.
We see no reason,
Why gunpowder treason,
Should ever be forgot.

I wonder how many non-British people knew about this before "V for Vendetta" came out. I'm one for sure. And I didn't even watch V for Vendetta.
Well, 5th November has burninatoring and sky-explosions so it's bound to be good. *sagenod*

I knew about Guy Fawkes. I love history though. *grin*
Drathys2006-11-04 11:40:57
I went out with the rest of the family to a public fireworks display earlier, which is about all Guy Fawkes is synonymous with here.

I marginally knew about it before seeing the movie, but had no idea who Guy Fawkes was, and what his role in history was.
All I knew is that some people burnt bonfires on the fifth of November. Yay Return of the Native!

I just saw V for Vendetta in my school's theatre. There were people in Guy Fawkes masks there, some homemade - it was quite awesome.
The movie was even more amazing the second time

I don't get it... does the holiday celebrate the attempted murder or celebrate the failure of the attempted murder?
Richter2006-11-06 05:42:28
I thought it was supposed to celebrate the attempted overthrow of what was perceived as a tyranical regime.
But I'm just an American.

It's celebrating Guy Fawke's failure and execution.
