I do apologise. I got about halfway through and the thread and was derailed by Verithrax's ranting to the point that I forgot it was Rauros who started it in the first place

However, the chrachters know exactly what losing 12hp means.. they feel it, they can explain it to eachother. when a player types 12hp, it just means that the charachter is saying something that to mean,means 12 hp;

Geeze, you sure like to pick and the nit and gritty.
I will only comment on the statistics of the weapons.
Reason # 1 for posting the statistics on the market channel and not in tells.
Now, while some of you big RP buffs might be fine with replying to each and every indivule while trying to figure out who'll give you the most money at the same time. Most of us who just want to put it up for sale don't wanna hassle with all that.
Reason # 2:
We can't handle and try out a blade before we by the thing. I suppose we could, but then there's nothing keeping the person from running off with it once they have the weapon in their possession.
Also, since we can't physically get a handle on the weapon and swing it around, inspect it's blade, or jab at a target ourselves, we have to rely on numbers to allows us, the soul behind the made up character to know exactly what it is we're buying.

What a ridiculous thread.
I see nothing wrong with using 'k'.
It does not break my immersion, and I have fairly high standards. Your standards must be prohibitive if it breaks yours.
Agreed! You don't fuss at people for talking about the Y2K bug for example.

I was thinking of HELP GOODRP when I wrote that. Ahem. Doesn't detract from the goodness of my argument!
Oh, and using 'k' is only slightly OOC - Mainly because in Lusternia we don't have the metric system, and it's definitely not medieval. Generally speaking, I prefer to do things phonetically whenever circumstances allow, spelling out numbers entirely, on market ads.
Explain to me again how you measure a weapon's speed? Also, in reality there is no clear, set, admin policy on this. Hence we must assume which is most acceptable and likely based on two things, in no particular order: 1) Real life, and 2) The standards already set by fantasy roleplaying and fiction. The reason we do this is that Lusternia is more similar to both of those things than not, infinitely so, and whenever the world isn't defined, we assume it is similar as well.
Rapiers are not medieval, the heavy Full Plate is not either. (Full plate as most people describe it in IRE games is actually earlier renisasance.) Katana's are not medieval, Aetherships aint medieval, use of universal currancy between cities is not medieval. The idea of actual 'shops' instead of venders at market, not medieval. Highways connecting major cities, not medieval. Violin, Viola, Mandolin, are not medieval.
Hell, formal 'chords' like minor second, or major second, are not medieval. All musical theory, as we know it today, was built around 1600. So... obviously this is not medieval earth.
Veonira2006-11-03 22:59:16
I refuse to believe that someone saying stats on market or anything that is the slightest bit ooc ruins your immersion in the game.
Obviously someone sitting there talking about their failed internet connection will, however.

Fine, forget the stupidity example, replace it with ugliness, or bleeding. Who says "Gives you ugliness?"
I propose 'the ugly stick' as an IC way of dealing with this.
Usage:
'I/He/She/They/We got hit with the ugly stick'
NOT
'I was ugly sticked'
Sylphas2006-11-04 05:52:45
Abbreviations are perfectly IC, if the word being abbreviated is IC. Resurrection is IC, therefore so is rezz. If you consider a defense to be IC, then so is a def.

Lusternia fails at detecting when I'm not being serious. You people need to pipe down. *distributes painkillers and tranquilisers*
What? You actually thought I expected the Divine to post a story on the website about that? Have you people been secluded from real life so much you can't detect deadpan sarcasm anymore? Do I have to add a cute emoticon to everything I write so you can read the tone? Man.
The whole use of the english language is terribly OOC. I insist that Lusternia has its own language that we all have to learn to speak, and unless we speak that language, everyone else is obligated by arrpee to shun them from society like the insane lunatics that they are.
One reason I don't get too pissed at people saying 'k' is that I take it the characters aren't speaking English and therefore are saying something that makes sense in Common. OTOH, it's easier to picture things as being said, not written (At least for me, YMMV) if they're spelled out thoroughly, which is why you see me saying "ten thousand and fifty hundred pieces". It's also more medieval to do so.

Since when has the term "k" been in any way shape or form in-character language? I'm sad to see this kind of OOC behavior day in and day out, especially in Celest. I'm sorry I don't have more examples to quote, but I see it all the time. Just stop, please. Thank you, that is all.
Not going to read the whole thread, too long.
However, people say "k" or "grand" all the time in real life.
Now, granted, the OOC is getting worse as Lusternia is getting older, and it's because the older more hardcore original players are leaving, and we're getting newbies, who need to forceable be told to knock it the heck off if they do it more than once. Why, just in one conversation, someone said his soul was getting tired, and... I dunno, something else that irritated me.

All of the USA must be OOC, then.
After all, there was that huge worry about the potential "Y2k" bug.
Watch it, America, or the GameMasters will come for you.

Err, I should hope so. I'd hate to think this mess was a game. I'd have some harsh words for the admins then, that's for sure. Time to nerf the Politician's Guild, they've been nerfing the rest of us way too much lately.

Seconded, as K is a commonly used term in physics and math is completely acceptable if you ask me. And those of you saying that maths and the laws of physics have no place in Lusternia. Sucks to be you.
