Not really a combatant so I can't, and don't really care enough to, suggest balance changes. However there are some major problems I've with hunting/tracking. I've drawn comics to illustrate some of these.
Now, I'm not saying everything has to be equal, but I kinda wish prints was more useful especially if it can only be used in certain situations. It only works for things on natural enviroments, compared to scents which works everywhere. This has probably been suggested before but why not give general directions?
For example, PRINTS FAELING, if you see them on PRINTS first obviously, would tell you either what general direction they're in or give you the exit you should take from the room you're in to get closer. This shouldn't be too hard considering BOND TRACK in tracking already leads you to a person room by room.
Sometimes I'm rustling cows, I don't notice it's in a panic and the cow leaves right before I try to rustle which causes me to target a cow that's already following me. I don't mind at all that I lose balance, even if it's a little long. Why not a message that explains it though? Maybe...
I'm sorry but 'Why bother when this cow is already following you?' just sucks.
Some minor problems I have is 1) When I transed tracking a few months back there was no lesson descriptions. Simply ' teaches you the # segment in Tracking' 2) Why doesn't hunting let you cook anything!? Campfires.... cows... please?

cool pics!

I don't know why, but I love your whole post so much I'd make the changes myself if I could.

Oooh, so that's how you get changes done around here!

Pictures are too distracting apparently because nobody is commenting on the actual ideas

There are a few irritating things about rustle. If you rustle a cow already following you it costs balance. If you miss a cow it costs balance. It really should only cost balance if you rope a cow and they then follow your or stampede.

They're just really good pictures.

There were supposed to be some really cool updates. scan was going to end up like scent for trackers, possibly being able to stalk and such off prime, etc....
They were supposed to be out over a month ago after they nerfed pits, but we only got a few upgrades (like 2/10th's of the amount we were supposed to get)... then they decided not to do the updates.... so well...... it was asked for and it was looked into... but it didn't happen.

Well yeah, that makes sense though. There's at least a message showing you wasting time, and the cow breaking free. What doesn't make sense is that it takes so long to recover that you see that same cow rushing in and out of the room in a state of panic before you recover. And Ildaudid, how exactly was scan supposed to work? Were you supposed to be able do it anywhere? Scent doesn't work on stinked guys, are there any similar restrictions in mind for scan?
And lastly, kinda important to me but what's the reasoning behind trackers being able to use it? Is it like a super version of prints?

It would work just as scent did, same skill basically but you had to have up to like mountainclimbing or something in tracking... this would have been like a great skill for hunter/trackers.... since we should know our prey and who is in our area.... it was accepted by the envoys, was told they would all be released 14 days after they nerfed pits, then they decided to change their minds and only add scale faster, upgrade deadfall, and swiftswim if I am thinking right....
This is what it was... supposed to be. I am only posting the scan part. Since my envoy gave me the whole list of things... but scan is the only one you are asking about
MountainHunter could give the ability to Scale Up,
We got the scale up (but scale up faster not scale up anything, I dont think) .... not sure about any physical damage and scan was approved but never implemented.

I didn't word it very well. I meant you miss a cow as in, there is no cow in the room because it wanders off and then if you try rustling it says there is no cow but still costs you balance. What was I trying to rustle that threw me off balance if there was no cow?

Ahh, well yeah that sounds pretty terrible. I'm going to have to try that to see what it's like.
And thanks to everybody who liked my comics.

This skillset came after I left, so I don't know too much about it, but... you have a skill that is the equivalent of an existing quest, but is inferior to it? I mean, why not just get some hay then? And why have a skill at all if it just substitutes for something everyone can already do? It must be superior in some other way I don't know about, right?

Well for one thing theres a limited amount of hay in each village. If you're too lazy to visit the villages first or if you want the use the hay for sheep then rustling is good. I think rustling is really useful.
Clucking lets you catch chickens but it has this crazy required balance time, and the only advantage over just picking up the chicken is that it'll never drop if you cluck. Clucking sucks. The only thing I might use it for is to pick up a total of 15 chickens from all the villages and drop em at a nexus to annoy people.
FishCatch is also really useless. It only works on trout and why waste time trying to catch the fish when you can just kill it in one hit and pick it up? I don't think theres any denizens that prefer live trout to dead ones.

You don't need hay for it It's a very low novice skill, taking 12 lessons to learn. The convienence of not having to go get hay is kind of nice for newbies.
Gwylifar2006-11-08 20:07:32
Ah, that makes more sense. (Oh, and Serenguard couldn't always one-hit-kill fish; another place two half-damage attacks sucks is anything that runs away.)

It was a suggestion, not something already in place.
Why can you panic the cows following you? They dont calm down and hit you all the way till the dairy.
Unknown2006-11-08 20:36:43
Just target by number in crowded situations.
Anarias2006-11-08 20:50:35
Yeah clucking is beyond pointless. There really is no situation in which it isn't easier to simply get the chicken. This ability has the same problem as rustle wherein if you try to cluck and the chicken leaves the room just before you do, you lose balance for doing nothing.
