Erfworld is based, as far as I know, on the Warlords series. You know, Warlords, Warlords II (and deluxe), Warlords III Which Had a Subtitle That I Forgot, the somewhat-recently ressurected Warlords IV, but NOT Warlords Battlecry. That's just an RTS.

In my mind's eye I imagine a puppy perking up and wagging it's tail furiously at the sight of a treat, which is then thrown into a fire, which makes the puppy sad again.
