And what exactly IS Borat?
Noola2006-11-10 22:24:55
I want to seeeeeee it! I might go tonight.
My sister saw it and said there was one part that was so funny, she laughed until her head hurt.

Heavily considering dragging random people along to go and see it. Trailer of the movie made me giggle, a lot.
Unknown2006-11-11 01:10:51
That's it... gonna go watch it this weekend.
Jack2006-11-11 01:25:42
Saw it a week ago. Rather amusing at some points, but it wasn't as good as I was expecting, to be honest.
Noola2006-11-11 03:16:08
Just got home from seeing it. I know the part my sister was talking about now... I though I was going to hurt myself laughing. Especially when they were in the elevator.

Well, if what the article claims is true, then... that -is- pretty shady.
Ildaudid2006-11-11 05:24:32
Borat was originally from ALI-G show right? Think that is where I saw him, yeah and I am sure someone is going to find someway to say he is making fun of some country... meh...
I think he rocks tho!!

I'm mad I didn't go last weekend because I won't be able to see it for two weeks because of Theatre shows.

I'm not surprised the frat boys are suing. They made themselves look like dickheads.
It will certainly be interesting, legally, to see how it works out. Sure Sasha Baron Cohen got them drunk and encouraged them... but the mess they're in is entirely their own. You could get me as drunk as you liked, but I would not start screaming bollocks about how the ethnic minorities control america and that america needs slavery again, let alone the extraordinary misogynistic rants. "Negligent infliction of emotional distress"? What a load of lame arses.

You would if you were told before hand that they are making a movie for a nother country, and they would like you to say certain things. The Daily show does it to people all the time, but they know the situation.
Apparently quite a few people have been fired because of what the movie showed allready. Pretty disgusting if you ask me, even if it is "funny", I'm frankly embarassed.

Those people were sacked because they were rude, racist arseholes who deserved to be sacked. Sure, it was the film that did it, but it might as well have been a co-worker making a complaint to the boss.
I could say more, but there isn't much point. Watch it anyway - certainly watch it before you pass judgement, if that's possible, Daggy old chap. Sasha Baron Cohen is jewish, too. All the more reason for you to pop along and join the laughter.

I can't wait to see this movie. I'll probably have to wait until Thanksgiving though, what a bummer.

How do you know those people are what you say they are? Do you know them personally?
Does nobody remember the armless soldier from Fareinheit 9/11 who sounded like he was against the war in Iraq, only later to find out that he sued them because he was pro war, and the clip was talking about a new drug recovery plan, and the conversation had nothing to do with the war?
If people are sueing, and losing thier jobs over the film, its no longer comedy.
I disliked movies that are hyped up on the news channels as something serious, when I know its all just a means to get more money made. To then later find out that said movie is having other real life consequences like getting people fired makes it even less appealing.
But who cares right? Its not somebody you know getting thier life turned upside down.
If only the movie was fiction, with actors, then it could just be funny.

Watch the damn film and stop prejudging.

I enjoyed this movie because it tended to bring out the worst sides of the people portrayed in it. I don't blame the frat boys for suing, but they really did bring it on themselves. They acted in a highly racist fashion because they believed the film wasn't going to be shown in America? That is most likely untrue. They acted in a highly racist faction because they were drunk and were cleverly led by Cohen to say things that they partially agreed with. They were probably too inebriated to think "hmm, what if people I know see this?" and were certainly too wasted to control their mouths.
Noola2006-11-12 17:53:22
My mom always told me "Don't let a drunk person hurt your feelings, but understand that they mean what they say even if they don't mean to say it. Being drunk just lowers the filter they usually keep up between how they really feel and what they say out loud."

Don't judge Romans till you actually see a gladiator get eaten by a lion, its really entertaining.
