Arenas? Or maybe some place that Klangratch made secretly to train....in the mountains somewhere.
Ildaudid2006-11-13 05:24:00
That is just another arena
I made the thread because it was a giant worldwide contest. Not to make an arena...![smile.gif](style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif)

I love combat, but this event is dumb. I also feel something like this ruins the otherwise positive image Imperian has built for itself.
Unknown2006-11-13 14:38:43
I think the event would be a lot of fun, if (like Shamarah suggested, never thought I would agree with him) we chould choose to join it, it could be fun. As others have already been pointed out we have way too many griefers who would turn this into a nightmare. Also, there doesn't seem to be much RP purpose for it, it's just a complete suspension of the RP that makes Lusternia great. I'm with Aiakon I think - if there were an RP reason and a way to keep it from turning into a grief-fest, I'd be in.
Bhiele2006-11-13 15:55:31
I loved Imperian for the RP,which I found to be original and exciting because I love the conflict of it. The reason I came to Lusternia (and no offense is intended here) isn't because of the RP or the skills (which are great) or even the storyline.
I came to Lusternia, because in general the people here are so much more pleasant and you can actually do things without being berated or ridiculed because you aren't in with the cool kids. You can ask those questions that seem stupid to veteran players and no one attacks you. The players of Imperian have essentially ruined the game as a whole for a lot of people. Their emo angst ridden diatribes on the forums have chased away players and gods alike. They abuse their admin and then cry about why they don't get what they want. So despite Imperian's creative slant, the often cool events, the fun credit-earning games...I'd have to choose Lusternia.

OMG you said gears, and that has to do with Lusty for some reason that I haven't yet figured out (the gears on the website and such)...
Remember the gizmos and widgets in Newton Caverns?

I always wanted it to be referring to the Engine of Transformation. I wanted it to be an actual engine both so we'd have more cool clockpunk elements, and so the Moondancers could lure gremlins out of Faethorn. But for now we'll have to settle for those tinkerer gnomes.

This whole idea sounds like it was stolen from the WoW honor system. It's nearly identical. Not like it matters, it still could be fun. An event could be made out of it, who says it can't be immersive? Lusternia's admin are topnotch, and I'm sure they could concoct a great story to go along with it. Quit being naysayers, try something new for godsakes.

You're still trolling the forums?

Would you even come back for this event if it happened?

Geez, can't I stop in from time to time and put in my two cents?

Still think its a good concept though, Ildy.

I don't want them to concoct a great story in order to justify an event. I want them to construct an event as part of the great story.
As has already been observed, we basically have this as Astral Nodes. I enjoy that, and it'll do for me.

oh..COME ON!! Why do you have to be such a british stick in the mud? That attitude is so hackneyed and annoying. Doesn't apart of you want to see some new things once in a while? The other day I asked a good friend of mine what events have been conspiring in Lusternia (or as you put it, " the great story"). She responded "Uhh...not much, oh, some valley opened, but I can't remember the name of it"

I just want consistency and I don't want some basin-wide bloodfest to be patched into Lusternia with some crappy bollocks excuse... and the danger is, that's what will happen. Do you remember when all the shrines in the basin exploded, so that the new shrine system could come in? There was some shouted argument between the Gods about how their fulcruxes on Avechna's peak weren't transmitting sufficiently to bring back the Elder Gods, and Estarra demanded more. She and Roark subtly changed the fulcruxes, all the shrines exploded, and there were three new shrines, corresponding to the tri-band God-dar that had now been implemented. The event was totally out of the blue, it went by unconvincingly quickly, and I never understood why a perfectly ordinary conversation in the Havens needed to be shouted out to the Basin as a whole - it reminded me of one of those moments in TV series, where a character says something entirely unnecessary and unrealistic in order to bring the more stupid viewers up to speed.
This was a case of amazing new shrine idea (and I still think it rocks) needing a quickly patched in IC excuse before it could be implemented. But consider how it might have been, if it had been the other way round: in a meteorite shower, a new God careers into the Basin - there is a crater in the Grey Moors.. and the first arriving mortals hear the God whisper a last message about how the Fulcrux signal arrived too late, before it expires from lack of essence. Suddenly, there are theological implications for mortals to argue over, the Gods realise something has to be done.. ta da! The Peak is changed, new shrines implemented. Of course, if it had been this way round... with an event in which Gods and mortals had to rethink how to get the other elders back... I doubt the new shrines and powers would have been so well thought through, or so great. They would have been the ad hoc idea to solve the event, rather than the event being an ad hoc creation to solve the new change.... and inevitably, we've got to accept that sort of thing (this isn't intended to be a divine bashing session, I'm just giving what I hope is inoffensive, constructive criticism). It happens in a small way, the entire time with skill changes and the like - we can't expect the admin to think of RP justifications to every little tweak.. but then the player base can do that well enough...
My point is though.. and at the end of this long essay, I've basically forgotten what the point was I was trying to make... I would prefer a change to the game as a consequence of Lusternia's story, than a change to the game in spite of Lusternia's story. Introducing a pk-fest such as Imperian has done, does -not- seem like one of those changes which will be easily incorporated into the game's roleplay fabric.

Aiakon, I was truly touched when I saw that you went through the trouble of ranting in response to my silly posts. I mean afterall, how often does one get to rant back and forth with Aiakon
![kiss.gif](style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/kiss.gif)
Lusternia is far from the champion of all roleplay-intensive muds. It is better than most, but it still has its own issues:
Lyco swings his gigantic sword in an overhead arch at Ethelon's leg, blood spurting everywhere.
Lyco says, "How much"
Ethelon says, "Ooohh about 450"
(nothing against these guys in particular, they are great)
Or....
You greet Hraddon with a sincere smile.
(a few moments later)
With your mighty index finger extended, you poke Hraddon.
You say, "You alright there, bud?"
(little more time passes)
Hraddon says, " Oh sorry, just some soul aeon"
...
(again, nothing personal)
I think you get my point. Your commiment towards excellence is unparalled! I salute you sir, but you really have to look at the bigger picture once in a while. This sort of event that Imperian implents and Ildaudid suggests could be alot of fun. Isn't that the goal afterall, fun? We all have fun in our own ways while playing the game, but couldn't you excuse some poor RP once in a while for the greater good? Would you be willing to sacrifice a bit of yourself for the greater enjoyment of the community? Sincere questions, all.
Your point: "I would prefer a change to the game as a consequence of Lusternia's story, than a change to the game in spite of Lusternia's story" is a valid one, although a bit naive. You have to remember afterall, Lusternia is a -game- with mechanics and game design implemented into it. The core mechanations should come first and usually do, don't they? You cant have a Lusternia with story without a Lusternia with a gameplay mode.
By implementing more things like this into the game, it will make it even more special. Instead of tearing down lusternia's story like you fear, it will only enrich it more by diversifying it.

Boy, I sure wish we were in the middle of an obnoxious blood bath instead of the rather involved unraveling of the world as we know it going on now...
