Further specialization

Lusternia already has a cool specialization system, but why not take it one step further? Imagine after mastering Aquamancy, you can hone your powers to become a hybrid mage of ice or mist. Simiarly, Geomancers could train in even more deadly poisons, or... I dunno, farming. And after conquering the tribulations of music, you can take, alongside your guild speciality, advanced rhythms or acoustics. Etc etc.

In other words, each guild would get an additional 2/3 specializations to their main skill. They'd be mini-skillsets containing only around 5 abilities, and they could be learned at the virtuoso level or at mastery. I know this will probably be annoying to code and the staff have a lot of other priorities, and the balance issues would be horrid, but it could be fun nonetheless. But more then knowing when or how this idea could be implemented, I'm more wondering if something like this could even be possible in the future?

I think that would be to much, we already have skillsets that are clearly the best combat choice compared to others from the tertiary picks Healing Vs Hexes for example, specializing main guild skills further would open up a whole new can of worms to balance. Whereas we still haven’t fully balanced skills that have been out for 16 real life months ex: Psionics.

There's not really enough skills in specializations to divide them further. It doesn't sound bad in theory, but, like Wesmin said, it would be too much of a hassle.
More skillsets or specializations seem more feasible.

What if they were basically RP skills. Pretty things that looked good but had little or no function..? It would be another incentive to buy credits to trans, and it might generally promote guild skill-based roleplay.. Having mastered Geomancy, are you more interested in sand or loam or earth or rock? Something as simple as a handful of custom emotes for each type would be enough to make it fun...

..sadly the work involved would be unlikely to justify it.

Or you can make a full skillset with nice utility/rp skills in them.

Mist rains, fog, various ambience affects, freeze stuff to preserve food and reduce decay time in your pack.. turn your pack into a refigirator lots of fun things.

I'd so have a fridge.

But that's not quite what I meant.. I don't really want another general RP skillset, I guess I want more guild specific ones...

ex: Psionics.

Psionics is fairly balanced for trans combatants. With the exception of daggers, can you explain what you feel is not balanced about it?

That basically covers it. Forcefield is a pain, but can be disrupted and a lot of people don't use it anyway. I don't know much about mass dominate and haven't actually seen it used, but the concept is scary to me as well.

You answered me yourself, daggers, which I'm told is being talked about presently. It takes awhile to look at a skillset from every angle (the envoy process isn't fast, and it can't be the envoys and the admin need to both prioritize), which is why I'd object to specializing every main guild skillset further and adding 32-48 new specializations. fear.gif

Even just a choice of two different trans skills would be very cool.

Honestly, forcefield is a total mixed blessing. It's wonderful for PvE - I can actually be tanky when I take on astral mobs! However.. psionic burnout is at least six seconds of not being able to do much, mega xp loss, and not using it for 45 minutes. In other words, you're screwed. I generally never use forcefield in PvP.
Zalandrus2006-11-15 01:06:27
I'd just like to chip in that forcefield can definitely be a cursing. I think the first day I got forcefield, I suffered burnout, like, 3 times in a row, mainly because it gave me the illusion of having more health than I did, when my high ego still wasn't enough to take on a hammerhead dry.gif

And, if somebody who can kill you with two sword strokes (ie Ixion), it'll only take them four or six to break through forcefield and then kill you

Heheh.. More or less the exact same thing happened to me, the first time I transed telekinesis. I immediately had a hissy fit and became a telepath.
