Difference in forums = difference in player base?

I am posting here to annoy Tonbee with my Gaia avatar.

Also posting to write, maybe it's because we're blessed enough to have our Aiakon's, Geb's, and Nejii's, who tend to pwn flamers or at least calm 'em down. Also, most of those hurling nothing BUT insults and flames are usually banned, so an active, moderating administration doesn't hurt either.

Truth. I created little newbs in Aetolia, Imperian, and Achaea, and, have to say, maybe big playerbase is bad for Achaea. I mean, snuggly newbie introductions in Lusty sometimes get on my nerves (especially when I'm making an alt mad.gif), but I think caring is a feature of Lusternia, especially within orgs.

Problems:
Right after newbie creation, at the Portal of Fate
WTF do I do? Auggggh!! I'm lost!!!! QQ

Guild newbie intro: most likely either yawn or I don't get it, booooring...QQ

After Newton: Um, what do I do!!! I can't one-shot everything!!! *dies 16 times to starfish* QQ/SUICIDE ohmy.gif

We need smoother transitions from Newton -> the rest of the Basin dry.gif

After a while...
OMFG I got jumped help! This game no fun mad.gif QQ/SUICIDE

But forums are awesome. wub.gif And flamewars are actually amusing to watch wink.gif

They start out fun. But after that being ALL you read for months upon months, they get tiring and I start feeling bad for those who are on the receiving end.

That's the thing, Newton is a red herring. You're much better off rustling cows and delivering chickens. Time spent in Newton is time wasted.
Gandal2006-11-15 01:43:56
But, but, the money....I made 10k in about an hour with an alt

One of my alts made 25k in about 30 minutes by quest-rabbiting honours quests. Yay for Paavik, Shanthmark, Estelbar, Stewartsville, and Spectre Isle having really quick quests!

perhaps we should direct them to the "A guide to hunting and influencing" thread under the Survival Guide section so that they'll know what to hunt and what -not- to hunt at their levels. That'll be helpful smile.gif

Nah. Newton is great.

If you're a true newbie, it is a nice place to get used to the different ways of interaction, syntax, how bashing works, how influence works, the real basics, without all the distractions and in an overly simplified manner, which really helps quite a lot if you're really new to IRE.

If you're an alt, Newton is a gold mine. Alts always come out of Newton with a fair sum of gold.

As for this topic, I honestly think that the difference people see in the forums is really just a matter of Lusternia having better moderators. Things that look like they have the potential to go too far are usually halted in their tracks. I think these boards are more than capable of the same flaming, mudslinging, horrific nastiness that we see elsewhere. I think the credit goes to the mods, not the general player base.

Hmm, ya know...I think you may have hit the nail on the head. Afterall, if kids in general have no one to watch over them, they end up making a mess. Makes sense. It's probably a mix of better player base, less players, and better mods.

Newtons great until you run into those people who come in while you have to newbie kick things to death and kill them and say 'what are you going to do about it?' dry.gif

Indeed, or the ones that wander in and "accidently" take your kills and whatever they dropped before you get EQ back. doh.gif It's especially bad when they WATCH YOU KILL IT and then -yoink-.

Anyways, much love to our mods for keeping us in check when we need it. wub.gif

Not to mention 'novice' influencers... I made an alt just for the heck of fun to be a novice again and when I wanted to open either iron or golden gate to Lolliprin, I can't give either a widget or chains because someone made them Paranoid sad.gif

Just to offer a different view.

I found the Imperian forums a welcome change from the bickering that was happening here at the time. However, I think that is mainly due to not knowing the people involved... with everything and everyone new, the arguments there seemed more remote and thus less heated.

I also found the guild I chose in Imperian to be more welcoming and friendly than those that I have experienced here. So I think perception will vary greatly dependant on the times played, which guilds you join, who you happen to meet first and so many other factors that it is just far too unsafe to make generalisations.

However rather than taking my own advice, I will make a generalisation and say that I definitely feel that the Lusternian playerbase is more mature than those of the the other games.

One might also suggest that the Lusternian playerbase is more passionate (rates highly on the voting sites). And seems to generate an inordinate amount of daily posts on the forums smile.gif

In the end, like most everything else, it comes down to the people you know and how much fun they make the game for you. So much wub.gif to all those that make life fun!

I think it's clear that what makes Lusternia superior is the unfailing modesty of its entire playerbase. There's not a game out there that can beat us when it comes to modesty.

I actually disagree entirely. I've been a novice in seven Houses (guilds) in Achaea (I've played it a long time and made three alts to try out classes for short periods of time) and made two characters here (to decide which I liked best). In Achaea, I felt much more connected to everyone in every House except one. Most Houses in Achaea have novice intros just like the guilds here as well. However, with so many houses, there are some rather large differences sometimes.

The thing I noticed was that I had a nice novice intro here, and then suddenly was unleashed on the world and there was no more talk. I've seen a whole three messages on GNT. One was a question, another was the answer, and another was a person asking if the novices needed any help. Once I graduated out of novicehood on one character, I noticed a lot more socializing on GT. Is there some rule that you can't have conversations until you're out of novicehood?

I have to say that out of novicehood, people tend to be a bit more communicative though, but part of that is that everyone knows everyone since it's so small (I'll assume it will probably grow larger though, I'm enjoying it very much and believe it will probably spread). In Achaea, as in real life, you have to make an effort to meet people. Nearly all houses there will try to get you in contact with people, many run contests for the novices constantly, involve them in lessons, give them intros, and just generally socialize with people on GNT; however, you will never get involved if you don't involve yourself in things.

As for it being more close-knit when you devote yourself to a city and guild in Lusternia, it is the same for Achaea. However, I'm going to guess that because devoting yourself is somewhat less impossible to avoid, that many didn't devote themselves in such a way.

Actually, this is more about the general player base being friendlier in OOC communications (forums). Course, that attitude bleeds into the whole ICness (if that's even a word).
Sylphas2006-11-16 01:01:33
I've only really ever used GNT to answer questions. I've never in my life seen people just start chatting on there, unless a novice initiated it. Also, you have to realize that cities and communes are so far ahead of everything else for the majority of people, that guilds aren't really the place to socialize.
