Making Vitae's revive non-instantaneous

The thing that irks me the most about vitae is that it brings you back to life -instantly- without any power, defenses etc, basically meaning if you were under attack from a player or died in a demesne, you simply die again with even less chance of defending yourself. My idea to change this is to simply make it a five-second wait for the person to revive so the player has a short bit of time to collect him/herself and figure out what to do next.

Post comments, not flames.

Do you mean a five second wait for the killed person to come back to life or a five second wait for their killer (be it person, creature, demesne, whatever that killed them) to be able to harm them after they've been revived?

I think he means the former. Like the body reform after Lich, only without the liching and moving around... and in five seconds instead of half a minute or whatever timer the Lich has.

Not that bad of an idea, I think. It's not so much of an issue on Prime Plane (because the attackers have to re-declare anyway), but it should help on others, when defending Ethereal/Cosmic for example.

Wouldn't that just give the attackers/killers a few seconds to set up the room so its harder to escape and give them time to recover balance from the attack that just killed them as opposed to how it is how vitae and the killer is off balance and you leg it hopefully?

No it would just allow everyone the opportunity to steal ninja.gif

That's why I was hoping it was the other one... cause you've more of a chance to escape if there's a few seconds where you can't be touched (or touch anyone else). If you choose to stay and fight on, fine, but having a few seconds to run wouldn't be a bad thing.

I actually wouldn't mind even just a 1 second grace period, if only because occasionally when I hit too many goats at the same time I get this:

Destroy forcefield -- lose psionics for however long (30 minutes to an hour, I think) and lose a decent about of experience. Get knocked over and stunned by the other three goats.

Hit vitae -- lose a small amount of experience, plus all of my defences. Get knocked over and stunned by the other three goats.

Die for real -- lose another substantial portion of experience, while not conglutinating because I don't have trans Planar.

If there was a second of grace then I wouldn't get hit killed before the prompt even shows again.

I will also point out that if you are fighting a warrior, and a poison afflict hits you in the same blow that kills you, you die, the vitae fires, you revive, and THEN are poisoned, so you come back undeffed and poisoned.

This is especially irritating when the poison is mantakaya - Murphy always used to kill me twice that way, back before I had any discipline.

My only problem is the stuff Shorlen said. THe whole you can get afflicted as soon as your vitaed from attacks before you died. My last vitae death I was dying and someone judged before I died and the moment I got vitaed back up again I died to the judgement that finished, there's just no escaping that cause usually those blue shafts are up too.

Happens to me, without forcefield...and can't send tells to anyone on prime. Can vitae at least give me *some* defense? Maybe 10-second prismatic barrier ninja.gif

Vitae was meant to protect you from griefers on prime I always thought.... so that is why it works the way it does. I don't hunt with vitae up off prime.... unless it is still up because I was doing something off prime. But even if it took 5 seconds... you would just be eye sigiled, barried, blocked in the room until you came back and then killed. That's what people would just change the tactic to.
Krellan2006-12-02 02:04:08
bleh I thought so too but my vitae doesn't even do that. After I die my fae keep attacking and half the time they've attacked just as I've burst back to life and so I lose my status right away. Hrm..I suppose I could just try and reflex that though.

You could have vitae protect you elsewhere though by having it give you grace. like the grace after a spar or something. Dunno how popular that'd be.
Shryke2006-12-02 22:16:26
Just idea :ents should stop attacking after you die so vitae isn't useless:
Ildaudid2006-12-02 22:46:24
Yeah that is one problem with status, if you are somewhere and your animal is aggro, it will attack people on your enemy list.... welp.... I lost status on forren that way too.... pissed me off... since he was pulling a griefer force pray jump with his grief crew tongue.gif

but yeah when you die your animal should end up auto passive. Must be a real pain for people with several ents... sad.gif
