I have gloves of mastery. They're worth every credit.
As Hiri said, the math I've done on them translates to literally taking years to pay off - for an alchemist. Assuming 3k per powerstone (significantly higher than what I currently typically pay, my prices are based on 1.5k), and 5k/credit prices, it would take buying over 1300 powerstones to break even. As a fairly active alchemist, I use perhaps 5-10 powerstones per IC year, if that many. Even at 10 powerstones/IC yr, that's about four and a half RL years to break even. So I'm not going to bother with them personally. Something more like a spatula or paintbrush that doubled the number of fills produced per amalgamation, I would go for instantly.
For an enchanter, the rate of use may be higher - and the powerstone is the major material cost in most enchanting, I presume, while in alchemy it's nearly negligible relative to the price of the herbs, even with the increasing price of powerstones.

Have you factored in the cost of lost time of not being able to get powerstones to fill an order?

She always has stones, Daganev. I mean, I bought ten for her as a present once. I've never seen her needing powerstones.
Daganev2006-12-06 18:13:50
Ok, but thats an individual case that doesn't really apply to if something is "worth it" in general.
I have a Chinese peasant who forges anything I want whenever I need it, so a forging hammer isn't worth it? Doesn't make much sense. It may not be worth it for me, but that doesn't mean its not worth it.
convenience itself is worth something. take the non -decaying pack or artifact vials for instance.

I more had in mind that it's quite easy to get powerstones, at least in the Serenwilde.
Anyway, it just seems like a lot to me, for limited benefit. Less benefit than the packs or vials. Not as huge a deal for me though, I'm an herbalist. I'm saving up for -my- gloves.

How about an artifact soul bucket? That way, instead of incinerating souls in my holy fire when I absolve them, I can stash them in my handy soul carrying case to show off to my friends later. Mmm, souls.

Are you sure you're not Fain?
Ildaudid2006-12-06 22:21:08
Fain wouldn't summon people to the gaurds on Celestia Aiakon, so no it can't be him
Acrune2006-12-06 22:26:07
PAH! I totally don't do that much anymore
Genevieve2006-12-06 22:32:36
Of course you don't do that anymore. The gods made it so you can't.

It's called "preparation". I notice "Oh, I'm down to only three powerstones left!" and I start looking for powerstones then. I don't wait until I'm completely out of powerstones to start looking for more!
Vix2006-12-07 02:19:27
What about putting up all of the artifacts Raizan won last time?

Nevermind. I have a feeling you don't want the gloves to be worth it , rather than seeing the worth and deciding its not worth 400 credits.
Of course you don't wait till you have abosolutely 0 powerstones, nobody who has a steady flow of customers does that.

Actually yeah all Raizan's artifacts should have been ripped from him by now, and it would be fair to put them back on the market seeing he is a perma shrub for breaking Lusternian rules/policies/laws... It would be fair to put them back on the market for actual honest players
edit - Before someone asks, what Raizan did, I will tell you.... He broke Lusternian rules/laws/policies. That should be enough information.

400 credits will buy me say 800 powerstones (or thereabouts).
Or, I could buy the gloves... and go through powerstones at half rate...
So if I plan on using more than say 1600 (or thereabouts) powerstones in my lifetime, it might be worth buying the gloves.
I don't, so its not.
Soll2006-12-07 08:30:06
You've got the maths a bit wrong there. If you plan on going through more than 800, it'd be worth buying it. I think.

Erm... are you sure?
If I buy the gloves and use 800 powerstones, then I've saved 400 powerstones... which is 200 credits?
I guess I could always trade in the gloves at that point!
Edit:
Point is you need to use an awfully large number of powerstones for this to be worthwhile!
Soll2006-12-07 08:42:36
But if you haven't bought the gloves and use 800 powerstones, you've spent 400 credits. Any powerstones over that and you're saving money.
