Or you could join an org.

Perhaps the rogues in their quest for power could explore the planes. I heard a story that there's a so-called "supra-plane" that could yield power aplenty, though finding it could be a bit risky.

But the Nature Spirits warned us to stay away from the Supra-Plane!

When do City people and betrayers of the Spirits listen to the Spirits?

I don't see the aether strands as being physical connections, I see them as being entirely spiritual connections that we have found a way to manipulate.
Physcial and spiritual have different meanings in a world where the different planes of existance are known to everybody.
I see everything outside of prime as being 100% spiritual in nature.

Summary: Rogues are crippled. Being a rogue is kind of like playing Hardcore Mode Lusternia - Your skills suck, and you'll get stomped on by anyone and everyone, and generally, you're better off quitting unless you're a masochist or have lots and lots and lots of credits.

That's kind of sad, because it's true.
But I guess it's kind of like playing Star Wars Galaxies, and wanting to have a driod jedi. The game was never intended to have driod jedi! (unless, for some reason, they now have driod jedis in that game when I wasn't paying attention, like when 4-LOM went in search of enlightenment...)

Erm, the Supra-Plane is now called Astral, and it IS the source for rogues to get power...
Er, wait, were you making a joke?
Richter2006-12-10 23:23:14
It was a joke.

That was unusually slow of you, Shorlen.

I've only been killed a few times since I became rogue, once by ildaudid during a hamsterhunt that allowed playerkilling (poor power lost), once by bauto (reason unknown), and once from haiden during a duel. Besides that just died because of lag and other things. You are mostly ignored when a rogue more than anything else unless you draw attention to yourself or have people hating you already and it's usually boring if you don't draw attention to yourself.

There aren't different kinds of power. Power is power, and if some skills say they require, for example, Moonhart Mother Tree's power, it means you have to be a member of Serenwilde to use them. Even if you fill up on power and then leave, you won't be able to use Serenwilde-specific feats (replace Serenwilde with city/commune you're in).
Rogues are basically tramps and vagabonds, who don't have an org affiliation for one reason or another, but rarely anyone takes them seriously - just like in real life. Rogues lose some of their PvE effectiveness and most (if not all) of PvP effectiveness, trackers being an exception, but even them have an easier time in a city/commune.
So, the price of freedom? Too high to pay if you ask me. Lusternia is very anti-rogue, and good! It's not that being in an organisation makes you a slave of any sort, you can be "free" even when belonging to one.
EDIT: Rogues can survive, and maybe even prosper (thanks to village quests mainly). But they can forget about PvP, they miss out most of politics, and people generally don't trust them.
I beg to differ. My rogue Aquamancer self is quite potent PvP and PvE. In fact, I still regularly bash Astral as fast/easy as I did as a Celestian. I really don't see why you, of all people, give out advice on PvP or PvE though... you aren't known from being good at either (no offense).
ferlas2006-12-11 02:20:33
Mages who have runed their staff and warriors are probally the best for rogues though, you both get all your bashing stuff and defences from neutral power, mages with runes only lose their demensce so its no big loss.

Hey, maybe it was my fault. My sense of humor is notoriously dry. I used to joke with Nejii about how I needed a pet aquamancer, in fact. (Hardly anyone got that, either.)

Slightly incorrect - I can still meld and use my demesne, I just cannot flood. When fighting on places like Celestia, Water Plane, etc... my rogue demesne is still rather potent (and annoying/unfair/lame/cheap/zomg I quit/evil/etc).
