13 question quiz here
It was pretty accurate for me, I am from Michigan after all...
What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The Inland North
You may think you speak "Standard English straight out of the dictionary" (yes)but when you step away from the Great Lakes you get asked annoying questions like "Are you from Wisconsin?" or "Are you from Chicago?"(only when I say "both" or "egg") Chances are you call carbonated drinks pop. (! I do)
Going from Michigan to North Carolina it's easy to notice accents.

Your Result: The Midland
"You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio.
I am curious what the california accent is supposed to sound like, since I've lived here all my life.

-- Actually.. its about 75% correct for me. My accent has changed from moving different places for long periods of time (over 5 years). When I lived out west I spoke "properly" and very fast. Moved to Texas and after 6 months of people going "Wha?? HUh??" I slowed down my speech and even acquired a drawl if i talk too fast -slaps forehead- Now.. I'm somewhere in the normal speaking section I guess. Though that darn drawl comes out every now and then... specially if I say somethin bout barbed wire....

I got Midland also. It's funny that I don't have anything close to a Philadelphia accent even though that's where I grew up! It's pretty accurate though, because I actually don't have an accent.

I'm Australian and I apparently speak with a northeastern accent.

Most of us will have different accents compared to the others here. We come from different states, countries, and even continents. What we think is normal, isnt normal for everyone else.
Laysus2006-12-08 02:35:38
That quiz is biased against native english speakers. Scummy yanks.

Your Result: The West
Your accent is the lowest common denominator of American speech. Unless you're a SoCal surfer, no one thinks you have an accent. And really, you may not even be from the West at all, you could easily be from Florida or one of those big Southern cities like Dallas or Atlanta.
Heh, I'm in the Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Arkansa, fourstate area, and frequent each state in one way or another.
I do speak really fast, but I tend to mumble for some reason, and despite all efforts made, can't slow down unless I'm trying to imitate somebody... which has become a regular habit of mine now since people keep asking me, "what the hell'd you say boy!?"

Your Result: The South
That's a Southern accent you've got there. You may love it, you may hate it, you may swear you don't have it, but whatever the case, we can hear it.
Damn it! I just moved here too. I think I tried too hard. Now I'm going to think I sound like I'm from the south.. I need to get Skype so someone can confirm this.

How does midland, or no accent, encompass both dallas and pennsylvania? Both of those are fairly distinct, especially pennsylvania (granted, I was born there and have family there, so I can tell).
Edit: Waka waka, it was right.
