Maybe it's time for Jolly Bundy to come back and kick the serpent's tail!

QUOTE

Jolly Bundy is an enormous gnome with a huge rotund belly. He wears a red suit,
fringed in white fur, with a matching red cap, and a wide black belt has tiny
silver bells that spell out, "Merry Solstice, Everyone!"

You're going to want to edit the prophecy as well, since I picked up the who from that. Just FYI.

As did I. No that it's a bad thing though, and I'd been getting an inkling from Ly's posts.

Ok, ok.... it's edited too.... Merry Christmas, and I hope Father Claus comes and sees my evil british buddy tonight.

The only example I can think of that shows what I would have wanted to see more of is the conclusion of the tainted fae event where Daevos started killing the Moondancers who were working with the Nihilists to fix Gorgulu.

Was a lot more than Moondancers there for that betrayal, for what little that's worth.

Okay, people may not like the way Lusternian events are held, but the people complaining seem to have never been a part of a game which was that free. Basically, if the Divine don't lead us with a direction, then we will either not move at all, or we will move in a direction contrary to their intentions for the event.

Events do (and should) follow a set line leading to an intended conclusion. You can respond and RP to it in all different ways (see Celest), but don't expect that you should be able to reshape the face of Lusternia by changing all of the events that the Divine have put in place. Lusternia would not be nearly as good of a place if players were allowed to change things too much.

I'm sorry, I've actually been part of several games which were that free and have seen (and executed myself) events that have been dynamic enough to satisfy the players while being fun for the admins to pull off. It is possible for the admins to lead in a direction without the use of railroading, and any good GM can tell you that it is extremely easy to set a goal at the end of the event that the players will accomplish in the course of completing the event.

What Celest is doing is all well and good, but I doubt the admins will respond to it favorably. When we had a long debate over whether or not the weaken the seals plan was a good idea over the Serenwilde aether, someone possessed Miakoda and basically said to stop fighting, shut up, and do it. I expect Celest is going to get similar NPC interaction, some sort of "impending doom" messages, or even in-game punishment.

We are not expecting to reshape the face of Lusternia: that would be a coding nightmare. We expect, however, that in the events that could reshape the face of Lusternia, we at least are able to act freely and affect the way that the reshaping transpires.

The difference here is that events are planned and executed toward a specific end. The admins have something specific in store, and work up an event to surround and introduce it. If players took charge of the event, it might go in a different direction which would not lend itself at all to their goals.

Even player organizations themselves fall into problems like this. Glomdoring is one example, where the players there were amazing and took the organization in its own direction, but it was not really what the administrators had in mind for it, and they later had to step in and try to adjust things.

It's not that there's anything inherently wrong, but the admin are the admin for a reason, they have things they want to accomplish, which means they have to direct events toward that end. They might allow minor conflict and dissention as part of the event, but they have to ultimately determine the outcome and how it's reached.

Also, coding on the fly to go along with player decisions is complicated and difficult.

Ultimately I think they do an amazing job with events, and this one is no different!

Kharvik has succumbed to the power of the vast maw of a terrible serpent.
You see the death occur at the Cavern of Doom.
Kharvik has been slaughtered by the awesome might of the vast maw of a terrible
serpent.
You see the death occur at a secluded section of the Divine Havens.

Wow. It's in the Haven's too.
Unknown2006-12-24 22:33:04
It's not in the havens. It just overkilled him. The massive damage does multideaths and so he took a couple of deaths even though it teleported him to the Havens.

Genevieve2006-12-24 23:11:00
You can be multideathed from a lot of damage? That sounds like a bug. Dead is dead.
Unknown2006-12-24 23:14:04
No, not really, there are ways to do damage to get through Vitae and Lich and other instarez effects.

The serpent is now compelling us to feed her. She is beautiful and good. She must be fed well.

Let us feed Aiakon, Narsrim, Daevos, Loyen, Reiha, Ildaudid and the other Tainted to her. She loves eating Taint. She will be pleased if we feed her Taint. Yes. Very much pleased.

Myself, before:

Kalas Alianna, Maiden of the Mists (Female Human)

You sense some vast and terrible Great Other lurking within, His eye yet closed
as the cloud of darkness falls over you. You feel your skin blackening and
bubbling, your flesh melting and reforming like clay within the roiling cloud of
Taint as liquid fire courses through your veins. Your heart shudders in agony,
beating slower and slower until it stops for a single moment that stretches on
into eternity as your vision fades to black.

The moment passes and your vision, blurred and dazed, begins to return. Your
flesh begins to settle, though your insides still twist and wrench sickeningly.
Yet, your cold heart still does not beat.

Indeed. Shh.

But now, this new Ascension business makes me sad. Major 'cue ego stroking'.

Plus it IS kinda bias to those with shnatloads of arties. But that's just natural jealousy speaking. sad.gif

Edit: Then again, there may be restrictions on that sort of thing!

Not necessarily. Considering we don't what type of challenges they are.
