Overkill

Don't you just hate it when, on your last hit on a mob, you score a crushing critical hit? Or even ... an OBLITERATING CRITICAL HIT? Or an ANNIHILATING POWER... you get the point. Well, I know I hate it, and it seems to happen like 20% of the time. Maybe I'm just super unlucky. But anyway, here's the idea...

Whenever a critical hit is scored on the last strike on an opponent, you gain an extra percentage of experience. Perhaps 10% for a regular crit, and up to 50% for the max.

I suppose an idea like this is not necessary at all and is only for 'accessory' purposes, but it'd be fun... and would ease some frustrations smash.gif

And just for some amusement ... new death messages (for a critical hit death) ninja.gif

Regular bard kill:
Kethuru screams and dies, as his eyes fly out of their sockets and blood splurts out of his ears.

Overkill!
Before he can even open his mouth to scream, Kethuru's eyes burst dramatically out of his ears and the back of his skull explodes, sending fine mists of blood into the air as he topples gracefully to the ground.

Awesome bard message. For the criticals, I think the calculator is based off of health, so with less health, you're more likely to get a critical off. Does get annoying how it's always on the last hit though!
Unknown2006-12-21 12:09:58
Is it actualy possible to "waste" criticals? I thought it was like flipping a coin a lot of times. Just because it's heads 10 times in a row, there's no reason why it shouldn't be heads an eleventh time. The probability resets each "flip". unsure.gif

No, no, no!

There's a kind of ideas that look "cool" on paper but would be horrible if actually implemented.

THIS IS ONE OF THESE IDEAS.

Do you imagine what kind of abuse would people try to score a hard creature with a crit just to get more XP? Or the serious advantage that blademasters and bonecrushers would have over other knighthood specs and EVERY non-warrior guild?
And for high-level characters who score crits every other hit, that'd basically mean +10-25% extra XP for nothin'.
Unknown2006-12-21 14:04:59
Oh yeah, I hadn't taken that into account yet >.< I had thought of this idea mainly because I'd get no critical hits while fighting the mob, but then the critical would finally come on the last strike, which was useless. But I guess that improves as you go higher in level... ooh well!

Perhaps it could cause your weapon to "glow with power" and discharge the extra critical on the next creature you attack. ninja.gif

What if your weapon is your palm? unsure.gif

I always laugh when I'm ratting and I hit a baby rat with a crazy critical of some sort. It makes me giggle to imagine just how squashed that baby rat is.

Before he can even open his mouth to scream, Kethuru's eyes suddenly burst out of his ears and the back of his skull explodes, sending fine mists of blood into the air as he topples gracelessly to the ground.

Small revisions, and melikes.

I don't really like the whole eyes out of the ears thing... it seems a bit silly. The eyes popping out of their sockets makes more sense to me.

Could cudgel have a pretty message first? Please? sad.gif
Unknown2006-12-22 00:29:11
Heheh, I had only written the death message half-jokingly with the idea of it looking 'theatrical'ish in mind. Anywho, what's the current cudgel death look like?

(Whoops, just realized my original post was worded as to create some misunderstanding... I meant new death messages for the critical hits, not to replace the old ones)
Diamondais2006-12-22 00:35:29
The final blow proves too much for a fat green weevil, who expires, pitifully.
Genos2006-12-22 02:24:08
It wasn't always that way, for some reason the Cudgel death message and sometimes the Cosmicfire death messages are those boring generic ones.
Daganev2006-12-22 04:45:15
The lower the level of the mob, the more likley you are to get crit hits on it. Compared to your own level ofcourse.
Gelo2006-12-22 07:09:20
OMG WTF NOOOOLA!!! WHAT IS THAT THING??
Genevieve2006-12-22 08:03:56
Well, you know how some guys find those anime catish girls attractive, so I guess that's what one would look like in real life.
Clise2006-12-22 12:57:06
Looking like something we would shoot first and ask questions later?

No, that's a common misconception of which I was a victim too. But it's dependant only on your level, not on your level as in comparison with the enemy.

Otherwise you'd get as many crits on rats as a newbie as you get on gorgogs at level 75. But that's not the case. Maybe we can test it - call the Lusternian Mythbusters!
