O.o is a nice way to put it. One serpent hits for...200. A mass of serpents basically kills everyone.
500 with fullplate and trans resilience for me.

Neither of which protect against psychic and unblockable attacks, which the serpents did most of the time

Uh.. Emmy.. calm down.
A lot of the event required investigating clues. Level 50s were hunting these creatures with me. You just have to understand you won't be able to rush in, unprepared, without help. That's mostly how people died.

Didn't Cuber's post that you quoted explain that very few events are actually combat oriented and there are a whole bunch of them that happened which weren't?

I am not sure why you feel that there was nothing you could help do with this event, Emmy. There have been many opportunities for those not interested in PKing and bashing to get involved and the biggest one is going on right now.
Combat was not necessary at all in this event until the serpents started arriving and even then you didn't necessarily have to kill them. You could have assisted in retrieving the parchments from the various locations they had been hidden, using bribery, politics, influencing, RP, etc against mobs or finding their hidden locations.
Right now you can be helping with weakening the seals by burning karma at their locations and you don't even need to PK or Bash to gain Karma. That is easy enough to earn through quests and influencing for esteem to offer.
I know it seems like a large number of the events are combat related, but if you take the time to really look in depth into each event you will find that we put something in the event for everyone, it all depends on the player to get involved at the appropriate times in appropriate ways. 9 times out of 10 portions of events can be solved without ever having to resort to combat, but the players choose instead to take that route.
I'm fairly certain that combat sticks out dominantly in every event because of how much more personal it is. You see the deathsights. You die, you lose experience, you see your friends/family die, your city/commune is being invaded, etc etc.
We write the script and come up with the ideas, but it is the players that influence and drive the action in the end. If the players decide to fight then you better believe they are going to fight.

Politics = justified IC PK fun-time

during this event, I play the 'coward' or the type who just won't fight. I at least contribute by sending in suggestions or what to do in this situation. Either just watch, or do something even little it may be. I'll just see things through and probably right a story about it along with what happened during my 30 years of absence.

Hey Here's a new idea for you. how about an event or new gameplay feature that ISN'T about combat or fighitng or DOESN'T require you to be able to fight well to participate in (example: these dang serpents kill non-fighters or poor fighters in 1-2 hits!!!!!) a nice attempt is made at saying this game is about roleplay and quests and politics and doesnt require fighting but really to get anywhere in the game or participate in nearly anything you have to be a good fighter or a high level. bah!
When this event "began," I was level 25.
In this event specifically, I have participated in several ways that did not involve combat at all, including one relatively important way involving the verses.
Combat-wise, I've joined hunting groups containing people more powerful than I to drive serpents from Glom. Yes, I die that way a number of times, but I haven't joined them so I can rock at killing serpents; I join them to show that even the little guys are willing to put their lives on the line for the commune, knowing that death is nearly certain.
I say this with affection, not spite, but the things a person wants out of a game like Lusternia are largely not just going to happen to you. You have to make them happen. I'm pretty sure you know this, already, but sometimes it's easy to lose sight of in the midst of an event where so many pre-engineered things are happening.
If you're interested in the ways I was involved outside of combat, PM me.

Thank you Demetrios, now THAT is constructive. and yes there are -some- ways in which I could help. and what frustrates me is that so oftent he players DO resort to violence when ti oculd be easily sovled otherwise. thus why i've been hoping for an event where violencee isnt even an option.. any sort of conflict, bashing included and no actually the bashing began in this "Event" witht he burning Pyrines across the planes, thats all just pretty much melded into one big event but sall good. and for helping i dunno doesnt seem to much anything worth figuring out or getting ti always seems that people like Ixion and Athana and Daevos are always figuriing it our find stuff before everyone else. not that it's bad I mean congrats to them for being so skilled but..mhe I dunno.

Would taking a deep breath be counting as constructive criticism? If not, relax a bit.
Okay. What I'm wondering is why you want events that are solely non-violent with no option of violence. Please explain. I do not want an angry response.

easy. for a change. comething different. something that hasnt been done before. something to give people a chance to be useful who cant fight at all or who are "pacifistic" without having to worry baout being killed or attacked by aggro monsters or someone else, etc. just something new and undone.
Gandal2006-12-25 16:35:41
That has happened before. Pacifists can be useful in almost every situation. Nexus Worlds - get the fragments of the world's memory. Bards - okay, fighting had no use here. This one - you could burn karma, which is MUCH more easily obtained from, say, feathers/pixies/supplicants/spikes than hunting most of the time.
And please use grammar. It's getting kind of annoying, having to read your posts several times sometimes just to understand what you're trying to say.
