That would actually be cool. Except you'd go crazy because of the earth and half of you would disappear or lose power because of loss of link to air and fire.
Lysandus2006-12-26 03:05:35
Oh yeah, forgot about that.
Then I'll just do what Aang did in the last chapter of Book of Water: Gonna dive in the pool, turn into a biiiiiig water god then drown Mag
Hurray for Avatar fanatics.

When Orti was a Celestian and a Paladin I used to dream of him being a Ascended God... And the first thing he'll do is create the greatest sword made entirely out of water.. similar to Tidus' sword from FF10.. so he would use both his Sacrament powers and Elemental powers

Maybe in the final challenge, there could be some sort of anonymity imposed on the Astral Sphere other than the competitors - for example, supposing I wanted to support Trader Bob in his bid for divinity, I would be able to defend him and all that good stuff, but others trying to attack me and get me out of the way would only be able to see and refer to me by a number, or some such...we could explain it as the Soulless starting to break through, and leeching the identity from everyone not in possession of a seal, or something (yes, I'm tired, I know that doesn't make much sense) - but at least it would give you some freedom to support someone not necessarily along city/commune lines.
I think this is actually a fantastic idea. This would allow people to not fear reprisals for supporting someone, say, enemied to the city, who would be a fantastic RP God.
I wish people wouldn't even think that RP wise, this would be a problem. The person ascended will leave behind all earthly ties, and may even come back severely changed. Say Daevos Ascends, he could come back all cuddly like Viravain. Or say for instance Ialie ascends. She could be worse than Morgfyre.
From an IC standpoint, supporting someone for Ascension does NOT MEAN that you are going against what you believe in. These people will be changed when they are Ascended. Supporting a Mag or a Celestian means nothing. I should be able to support Krellan, or Daevos, or Ixion, or Shorlen, or anyone I choose.
OOC, we should be choosing who we think will do the job best. Choosing poorly could ruin this for the future. This is the BASIS of Lusternia. It's in the title - Age of Ascension!
IC, we should be choosing who we think will do the best job as a god. Guess what? Just because Shorlen is a IG does not mean my character doesn't believe he wouldn't do well as a god. He will change, become different, expand his mind, and maybe see the Light. He could be the next patron of Celest!
EDIT: Language.
Vix2006-12-26 04:40:49
I like how this actually validates Lusternia's title as "Age of Ascension."
Anarias2006-12-26 04:43:32
If you fight for a city enemy you shouldn't get to duck under cover and call it good roleplay because you claim to know what ascended gods will be like. The admins decide to use this system. If you don't like the options it gives you you shouldn't compound the problem.
The admins have also been very vague about what will become of the ascended god's affiliations and beliefs. That's a pretty risky thing to gamble on.

wait... after Ascension... is there no more mindless grinding somewhere? Because mindless grinding is perhaps one of many favorite hobby

Yep. I'd try to offload all my stuff to friends, and let someone else run my store too.

dude I don't like the store, but dang I'll take some stuff out of your being!

But if you become a god, what happens to Deepnight? if you offload that too, I'm so not voting for you.
Athana2006-12-26 05:15:40
I don't know if this has been said yet but I really hope the permablessings are removed because all I've been hearing (I kind of feel this way too so yeah I'm a hypocrite oh well) is I don't care about becoming a god I just want an everlasting blessing. I think this is a really horrible aspect to add to this kind of challenge because then you get a lot of the metagamers in the fray. If there's going to be an ascended god I'd want them to be the most qualified person for the job so I'd really like those who are 100% wanting this position to be the ones up there in the end and not just a bunch of people who are like yay I'm so awesome at and I get to keep this blessing forever, too!
That's my two cents.

Finish it, establish it (if allowed), and then I imagine Estarra and co would want a mortal to actually run the place. I'd patron though, while off doing the whole "unlocking the secrets of the universe thing:.

I've got a curious question. Assuming one of us ascends to godhood...
What use will credits have to that god?
I was just thinking of this. Say one of us ascends, will the god have any use for credits? Assuming they have powers beyond mortal ken, what good would it be to buy more credits. It's not like a god might need a cubix, for instance, or most of the modifying items...
Or are you guys planning god-only artifacts, or something for that ascended god to optionally buy? Say like "Stiletto Heel of Estarra" which allows you to TDF or zap twice as much, for instance? Or convert credits to essence or something like that.
Just figured I'd ask this hypothetical. I try to contribute to buying credits on a regular basis, but I can't see much in-game use for them if I ascended.

Why in the name of Kethuru's underwear would a God need credits?

As a player god, to keep Lusternia in business, maybe!

It's always fun to wave 48million sparkleberries at mortals. Maybe we could do that with credits too.

Subj: Ascension Updates
Ascension Challenge Awards: Because of concerns that players would be
going for the "prizes" of the ascension challenges rather than for the
ultimate goal of ascending to godhood, we have decided not to award
permanent blessings to the winners. Each winner will receive an honour
and a unique gift from me. The gift may or may not have a power, but
that will not be revealed until after the final challenge.
Concerning the Ascended God, please be aware that it is not a role for
everyone and so think carefully before going for the gold (so to speak).
The Ascended God will not be hold any administrative powers or have any
part in the game design or implementation of Lusternia. Rather, the
Ascended God will solely be focused on running an order and developing
plots and/or events regarding his or her role. It is definitely not for someone who likes bashing or PKing and the social interaction with other
players will likewise change (you can't be buddies with old chums and
still be an effective god). That said, the role will be many and
exciting opportunities, especially for those who want to develop
storylines and events or just develop a divine persona that will enrich
the realm.
We will be updating the challenges on an ongoing basis. Below are some
updates to Chaos, War and Beauty challenges.
Seal of Chaos: Though a hamster hunt sounds like a simple enough affair,
there are a few twists which will be revealed at the hunt. Just note
that holding the Purple Hamster is not as easy as it may appear. There
will also be second and third place prizes for those who hold the most
hamsters.
Seal of War: Four Wargames will be held with teams of 3. After all four
are won, the winning four teams will have a final wargame against each
other to determine the overall winning team. Once the final winning team
is decided, the team members are given a choice. Decide among them who hey support for Ascension and who will take the Seal, or enter a
Free-For-All and the winner of the FFA will be the winner of the Seal of
War.
Seal of Beauty: The Trademaster of each trade cartel may submit one
design that has been accepted (either public or cartel-specific), on
behalf of the cartel. The artist of that design must be specified as it
needn't be the Trademaster. For example, Trademaster Tom of the Lollipop
cartel may submit a design and specify Jane as the artist. If that
design wins, Jane would be considered the winner of the challenge. To
enter, the Trademaster should message the Charites with the Cartel's
entry and specify who the artist is at that time. The winner of this
challenge will receive the Seal of Beauty.
