In theory this whole event will be a huge PK fest, especially when there are no rules written that keep anyone from killing the contestants during the events. With the exception of perhaps the Debate, Beauty and Quiz. (Unless you 'silence' someone during the quiz to make them unable to answer a question..) Why have competition when you can simply 'remove it?'

Essentially, will participants or non-participants be allowed to act in this manner?

Hamster Hunts have a PK ON/OFF flag. If they turn it off, it won't be violent, and killing will disqualify the user.

The Quiz is always held in a special area of the Divine Realms, complete with the dreaded "Comfy Chair". They can silence the room, etc.

War shall now be known as "The Great Demesne Standoff".

Should be interesting.

I have a feeling they won't allow the players to sit for hours waiting for somebody to make the first move.

One way to make these quests/contests IC is the fact that Kethuru could break free, and I see that as an in-game way to stress urgency. If they don't make any moves, tendrils, insanity, or other things start plaguing them.

Sorry if these questions have been answered before already, but there were some things I was wondering about...

If you don't plan to become a god, does that mean you shouldn't participate competitively in the challenges?

And are the Admin planning to do anything about potential imbalances during some of the challenges? e.g. Seren has many more villages to influence denizens for the Harmony challenge, whereas on the other hand Glom has none.

I don't know about the first, it sounds to fun not to try for at least one seal, and if you get it and don't want to be a god, then that just means those who do will work all that much harder to prove themselves. Though the compitition is going to be very tough against them from the start.

But as to this one that is a good question, but it might fall on the, we will see how its done at the time of that challenge.

Random guess, would be they could suddenly all revolt at the same time and its a scramble to get as many as you can in that time.

But thats just a guess.

I may want specific people to Ascend rather than others, why not winning a challange in order to stop someone I don't want to ascend and help the one I want to?

Regarding the RP aspects of the gods, I understand it to be like this:

You can still RP and be expected to do so. However, there are some important things to remember. The role you will play will change.

First, you are now a god with near-limitless power. This precludes you from being involved in many mortal affairs. So naturally, your in-game role would change.

Thus, some IC friendships would change. The god should not show any favoritism. For instance, don't expect to join or help your goombas on a raid on Celestia or Nil. You've got bigger things to worry about. You just can't hang around with your typical pals.

In an OOC sense, this is to prevent the god from accusations of "favoritism". For instance, if person A always hangs out with persons B-E, then person A ascends, and just hangs around B-E, gives them blessings, etc, it's not good for the game as a whole. This doesn't mean that you couldn't choose to ally with a community as a whole, but player favoritism.

Also, OOC would change, because I believe you'd get to hang out with the gods in the Havens (even if it's limited) and I highly doubt they keep in character all the time. The more time you spend there, the more you know, the more involved in plots and storytelling you become, the more urge for secrecy and that alone would remove your friendship. No talking about bugs on the forums or in chat rooms.

Ironically, Richter's cobbled-together Avatar is a very good example of what would happen if you got godlike powers. Read about Watchmen's Doctor Manhattan and imagine something like that happening to your character.

Kind of what I think would happen to me, a sort of a growing disinterest in mortal affairs.

Richter! As I'm probably going to be a supporter of your order and I want to buy a room in Deepnight before the ascension happens, I want to know what the hell I'm going into... you know, gives us plans of what you might do? What kind of teachings and such

I think part of the problem with that is that since no one has ever done this before, and doesn't know what all it will entail (ic, or ooc), it's a bit hard to develop my character right here and now in preparation for it, I think I'd like the possible transition to occur naturally.

Right now, my character is about power, advancement, freedom, and individualism. His personal journal only contains the teachings of Roark, copied from His book in the fulcrux. He's sneaky, underhanded, and follows his own code of honor. I imagine that much of this would become what he would teach. The road to godhood would be interesting, and like I said, no one's done it before. It's not as easy as a normal god's teachings, because while I don't know firsthand, I imagine that when someone becomes an elder god, they either get to choose a blank slate character and play that, or the administration suggests something (?), but this would be a shift from an established character to a god.

So, I really don't know, and of course this is all supposing that I can even win a single seal, there are plenty of qualified folks out there with skills in my preferred areas equal or better to my own.

I don't know why but time zones always get me confused. I live in PST so always assume that the world revolves around PST.

Yes, its noon PST for the Great Hamster Hunt.

Aiakon2007-01-01 13:16:09
So what time is that GMT?
Soll2007-01-01 13:17:38
7:00pm or 8:00pm. Probably the former, as it says.
Viravain2007-01-01 15:15:34
The event starts at Noon PST, 3pm East and 8pm GMT.
Shorlen2007-01-02 12:34:27
I think the Marks should, after the event, convey amazing powers of questionable benefit. For instance, the Medallion of Chaos could allow the wearer to shapeshift into a completely random race (and gender?) once per month in accordance with Tzarakizo's ways. The Medallion of Death could give you, when invoked, an autumn-like defence that, while active, increased your experince gain from bashing by 15%, but increased your experience loss from death by 50%. The Medallion of Life could allow you to shield someone else, taking harm from their next attack instead of them (just an idea, obviously not balanced as written). And so on.

EDIT: OOH! The Medallion of Knowledge, when evoked, could grant the undeniable answer to the previously asked question in a clear and easy to understand format, like a magic eightball biggrin.gif

The answer is 42.
