Ascended Gods

Back to Common Grounds.

While I share some of the skepticism that's been raised, this event sounds like it'll be really awesome and one-of-a-kind, even if I don't win anything! But that's also made me think of one thing... what if there is someone who is really deserving of this Godhood role, is very mature, wants to give it a shot, etc etc, but they don't win any of the nine challenges? Because the challenges don't seem to exactly reflect a character's RP ability or maturity. It'll be tough to come up with alternatives or solutions, because whichever way you go there will be flaws and limitations, so... I guess just pick the least flawed method. I have a headache at the moment so I can't think of solutions myself, but...

One question pertaining to the event itself. What if you win one of the challenges but want another karmic blessing instead (assuming that you win two challenges, if that's mechanically possible)? Like I might have my eyes set on the last challenge, but I don't want to skip out on all the other games and wait on this one, because I might not even win. Was wondering if the Admin would be willing to offer some flexibility around this, but... if not then I guess I'll just live with it!

I can see why many are skeptical.
I'm sure the Admin see that this thing can turn wrong and they seem to be willing to take that chance.

I say take the chance, if it doesn't work fix it or remove it.
I for one will be trying for the prize. kiss.gif

In the case of a "bad" RPer being the winner, well some people do improve under pressure. smile.gif

Sheia's back, Sheia's back, Sheia's back.

Ahem. We all know I am the best RPer of all times, but I am rather reticent to join for Godhood. I will be participating in the trials. wink.gif

QUOTE(Estarra @ Dec 25 2006, 12:29 AM) 366003

Players basically will be the major factor in deciding who gets this position, throwing their support behind those they think will make the best gods. One would imagine the majority of players wouldn't support someone who would obviously be a poor candidate. There is a reason for this, of course. We would like to see who players support and who gets the position almost entirely out of our hands, and how the position can be developed no matter who gets the position (assuming it isn't someone completely whacked out--you know what I mean). I'll say no more on the matter!

Of course I get the veto. A god who is "out of control" will lose immortality fairly quickly. We aren't going to put on blindfolds and let the new god run amok. However, whoever wins will be given a chance to prove him or herself.

Wasn't questioning your authoritay. smile.gif Just extrapolating your veto into just one person voting for the new Ascendant. But seeing your focus on player selection for the final round makes me junk my whole concept. I'll be the corner concentrating on not gaining your ire. ninja.gif

Organizational lines will be the deciding role in the last contest, as it currently stands.

Magnagora will back any Magnagoran candidate. Celest will back any Celestian candidate. Serenwilde will back any Seren candidate. Glomdoring will back any Glom candidate.

So, it becomes a battle of PK'ing population.

I'm trying to decide whether this is a good thing or not.

Also, a question.

The gods here have mentioned how becoming a god is an immense event, changes you forever, etc, etc. Does this apply to the 'forces' in Lusternia? As in, will an Ascended god from Glomdoring still be somewhat bound to the Wyrd, or is he 'beyond and with it', like Shikari was? Likewise with Taint, Light, and...Seren-ness.
Sekneov2006-12-25 04:41:15
Just two questions (I was too lazy to read through all the pages to see if its already been asked):

1. Will the person who becomes an ascended god have the option to change their name?

2. Will the person who becomes an ascended god have a type of mindset or realm that they rule over? For example, Isune was compassion, Lacostian was wisdom...
Hazar2006-12-25 04:44:09
Common misconception. Lusternian gods do not have realms - just affinities.

Another question. For the Beauty contest, can you submit for a tradeskill you don't have?
Unknown2006-12-25 04:46:31
If we have an alt now, and we want to try for Godhood, do we suicide them now or afterward?

You just can't log them on, I believe. Just like normal gods and original characters.

I think so. You don't have to have the trade to design it.
Shorlen2006-12-25 04:50:19
When do we submit the item?

Let me play devil's advocate and pose a question to you regarding a person who became a god solely because they "had great running ability and a lot of thugs": Why would you support someone for the god who wasn't up to your standards of a good rper?

My guess is the reasoning would go this way: "If members of my city/commune don't rally behind and help Ouridiot win, then it's a sure thing that Theiridiot, who has the backing of his city/commune, will win. That would be bad for us! Both for our pride, and for the probability that Theiridiot would stomp on us. We must make sure Ouridiot wins, because he may be an idiot, but at least he's our idiot."

Exactly like RL politics. And look how well that works at getting brilliant charismatic principled talented leaders into positions of power.

Kind of like RL politics, actually. Depressingly so.

Qft.

1. That will be between said person and Estarra, but I imagine the answer would be yes.

2. The Ascended God would not have a Circle, since that was a pillar of the now defunct Elder God society of old, but certainly they will have a philosophy or worldview that their followers can rally around.

No, don't suicide your alts.

I'd like to know the answer to this myself.
Hazar2006-12-25 04:58:26
Oi...one important question - yes another - still unanswered...

Is there an age requirement to become the Ascended God?
Anarias2006-12-25 05:06:37
I guess all I can say is when this all goes south don't scrap the idea entirely. It would be an idea worth trying again.
Genevieve2006-12-25 05:21:55
You know, I've never seen you make a positive comment.
Anarias2006-12-25 05:25:38
Was there a point to that or were you just bored?
