This came up the other day and I think it's an intriguing topic. In your mind, how do the races of the parents relate to the race of the child in Lusternia? What if the parents are the same race? different races? themselves have mixed lineage? Which races can interbreed with others at all?
I'm interested in any thoughtful opinions at all on these sorts of questions. If you can support them with Lusternian evidence (help file references, denizens or descriptions in the world, etc.) all the better, but I also just want to know what people think/assume. For that matter, if your character's family tree is relevant to the discussion, bring it up.
As a side issue, Neerth has always maintained that he and (pure) dracnari in general are born in clutches of eggs, like reptiles. (I know Shirath disagrees!) Thoughts? What about your own character's race?
Edit: To clarify a bit - I know there are ways that a person's race can change over their lifetime, and I know that family members aren't always related by blood. What I'm asking is this: when a child is born, what constraints (if any) on its race exist due to the races of its parents? It's a question of biology, if you like, rather than sociology. (For that matter, do the parents' birth races matter, or their races at the time of conception, or at birth, or all of the above?)
Another edit: If you post about what races your characters' children are, please post your characters' races as well! Also, this isn't a thread about anyone looking to RP being your child. I'm interested in which races can beget which other races, Lusternian-biologically speaking.

Veonira's part of the d'Murani, which is a great house in Magnagora. We started off being extremely picky, only wanting viscanti children, but it's really not practical. Especially when some of our viscanti members changed races (though the mage ones still used changeself to be viscanti).
The way I see it is, all of our children started off as viscanti, but because everyone gets a free reincarnation that is what explains the different races. It's no secret that everyone gets it

Adoption.
Oh, and of course, Magic.
And don't forget Changelings.
The Talnaras also started out exclusively furrikin, but then marriages happened and so on...

So you're saying that your house has lots of viscanti couples and they all had viscanti children when they had children? Is that how it has to be based on Lusternian biology, or was it just good luck?

Actually, I don't think Talnara is really a furrikin family. I think it's a furrikin/changeling family. Given how long Hiri's been one, it really didn't make sense to me to limit our children's race strictly, though I am happy to have at least some of them be furrikin. Or at least wearing fur!

Well, I don't really know how two viscanti could have a child that wasn't viscanti, as viscanti by definition is just a combination of races that are tainted. I also wouldn't see how a dwarf and a faeling could give birth to a dracnari or something, so I figure it has to either be that they were adopted or reincarnated at some point.
Of course the world is magical so you can imagine whatever you'd like, but I prefer that my children all started off as viscanti as a way for Veonira to justify that her great house family is not entirely viscanti.

Laysus and Sivriel have faeling children.
It's the only way that seems right.

Adee and I only have Trill and Faeling children. But because Adee was originally Trill and then reincarnated to Faeling, we generally consider our Trill children to be pure-blooded. If they show any faeling traits, (ie: are Faeling) they're not pure-blooded.
