I learned my way around Lusternia by setting the graphical Basin map to my desktop, then staring at the massive layout map for a while. Barring the elemental planes, everything has a very intuitive layout. It's quicker than any client map, trust me.

When I started, I got lost so many times. I recall getting locked, somehow, behind the Moontower gm door. No one was online in the moondancer guild, so Lisaera popped in and helped. wub.gif Oh the memories....

Also remember flowing to someone and ended up in the Blacktalon guild. The person flowed literally a second after I flowed. I was like...oh, this isn't good at all. So I was saved, again, by Lacostian. Lol I had a horrible habit of getting myself locked into bad situations.

Wow Verithrax, that was one of the most mild and helpful posts I've seen you write in a while tongue.gif

And welcome, NewPlayer.

Well, the usual low down on the organizations (if it hasn't been mentioned to you yet and you were curious):

(city) Celest: marketed as the "good guys" with certain images; a "Holy" city, Paladins, the light, etc. More complex than "we're all friends and goody twoshoes" (or however that word is spelled). On the forums they're usually seen as the Griefers tongue.gif They're at the top right now. Everyone hates them! wub.gif
(commune) Serenwilde: usually seen as snuggly, and while it does attract snuggly people, there are a lot of great RPers there - they have a somewhat decent balance with fighting and peace right now, though it's been curbed severly (the fighting). If you're looking for a peaceful life and/or freedom, Serenwilde is good for that.
(commune) Glomdoring: a very very rich and intense RP atmosphere, and very immersive. Hardly any fighting in the raiding sort of sense. Some may feel the way its RP is set makes things restrictive (you live for Glomdoring, not the other way around), but it is a lovely place.
(city) Magnagora: marketed as the "bad guys", with demons, darkness, etc., but instead of being two dimensional evil villains, the players have (for the most part) avoided that stereotype, imo.

And to be a Geomancer from Magnagora, you must select the guild in the Character creation. But your job isn't done there. Once you've reached the age of 20 and have a certain number of hours, you have to do "MSG REIHA I want to be your child", and then your quest is complete. And buy yourself some credits so that you never get deleted or suicide.

Oh yeah, belated welcome and if you want a fun PKing experience, become a Kalas.

Some hints for new players who have experience with other IRE games. I guess it applies to you too, NewPlayer:

-Favours, both city and guild, are much easier to get than in other games
-Most guilds have much less strict requirements for advancing than in, for example, Achaea. There are exceptions, so if you join such a guild, it's just a case of bad luck, so vote with your shoes.
-Best source of city/communefavours: village influencing. Read related HELP files and go to help when a village revolts. Being adept at Influence is very helpful here, with Analyze as a skill.
-Newton/Lolliprin is much cooler for gold and XP than other games' newbie areas, but don't forget about pilgrims/scholars and... yeah, what Verithrax said. Celest has a very rewarding city-specific quest, so does Magnagora (albeit this one's slightly harder). Communes are a bit worse.
-Don't ignore villages. Each has a large (read: lots of gold and XP) quest which can be solved once every hours, but they also have traders who buy in raw commodities, f.e. chickens - 80 gold each!
-Invest in Vitae. Best protection against random jumps, at least on Prime Plane where Avenger works.
-Novices are blocked from the Nexus (can't draw power), but they can still draw Dross Power- up to 15% a month only, but it doesn't cost the nexus anything. If your city/commune doesn't allow dross for novices (read: the leadership is retarded), play dumb or draw when no one's around.
-Village quests, again.

1-Rubbish, favours depend on who is in charge which is different in each game, city, commune, guild, etc. There were guilds in achaea you could buy favours etc, everywhere is different and will change every time a different leader takes over.
2-Can't compare, totaly different system, both with auto class. Achaea can't control the classes in anyway but lusteria can with power.
3-Probally true, raids and villiages.

1. I exclude things like bribery. But I found it WAY easier to get favours in Lusternia. Also, efforts here are more appreciated on the general, in Achaea I could work my ass off and the guild simply didn't care, then the leader favoured their best friend.

2. One would think that the houses would lessen their requirements after auto-classing. But no, bullcrap! They are still as strict as before. Whatever, even less incentive to join them.

K, Magnagora or whatever sounds more like me. I just hope you can be occultist or there is an equivalent in lusternia, <3 occies.

I'll try and keep away from theft, but it's so much fun! I like to be known biggrin.gif

Nihilists. Only one demon, but about the same concept, I'd say.

I dont remember what Occultists were so I wont say anything. Might be like the Nihilists but I may be completely wrong.

Stay away from theft. It is not wanted here, and we do get back at the people who cause theft in horrible ways. Theiving is not something you want to be known for here.
Ashteru2006-12-31 02:11:13
I think you are all making too much out of that whole theft-thing. Anyone semi-worth robbing will have selfishness, which basically already makes it impossible to steal from him.
Unknown2006-12-31 02:15:47
Don't you have artefact/resetting packs? Prism into stockrooms? Everyone in achaea has selfishness but you still manage to steal everything from a shop once in a while.

Can't get into stockrooms by any means but finding the door open, really. tongue.gif And yeah, arties reset, we have banks to store the money on...only real annoying affliction is vestiphobia which makes you drop your robes, but else..
Torak2006-12-31 02:18:52
If you are going Nihilist I suggest Aslaran with tarot. When you start fighting if you want tips just send me logs of what you are doing on the forums and I will hit you back. Or, if you want to talk about the skills in general message me on aim, my name is SLTorak.
Unknown2006-12-31 02:56:44
Nihilist it is biggrin.gif
Unknown2006-12-31 03:03:47
There is no Prism tattoo, the equivalent is the general skill Teleport, which takes time and is stopped by monoliths. The closest thing to Prism is the Moon skill Beam, which is one of the few teleport skills that ignores monoliths.

EDIT:
There is no true Occultist equivalent. If you want the swarm-of-ents gameplay, Wiccans have lots of fae through the Wicca skill, but have no access to Tarot. They instead get Hexes (a powerful afflicting skillset), Healing, or Astrology (a complicated buffing/debuffing/afflicting skillset) as one skillset and Moon (a balanced offensive/defensive skill set) as the other. Wiccan guilds are the Moondancers (in Serenwilde) and the Shadowdancers (in Glomdoring). Wiccans can force actions through one fae, but stealing is generally prohibited by the guilds.

Nihilists have a single demon entity through the Nihilism skillset, which is imbued with a variety of combat effects. Nihilists also get Necromancy as one skill set and a choice between Hexes, Tarot, or Astrology. One possible demon command is a force.
Lysandus2006-12-31 03:11:18
Go to Celest.

We're good, cool and whatnot.

Plus, we got cookies tongue.gif

PS.

(Massive edit to my above post)

Please keep in mind that you are able to switch guilds freely with no penalty while you are still a freshman novice (before you have graduated from novicehood for the first time), so hop around until you find something that suits you.
