simple little command.... just so Avechna knows what is going on...
HELP DUEL
DUEL
This command can only be used if the person is in the room at the time.
You are alloted 5 minutes that resets every time someone attacks just like declare.
Both players must issue this command to show their intent and have 1 minute from the first person's use to accept.
When it is used players see....
User:
You declare your readiness to openly display your skills to.
When other player then does it...
Showing your courage you valiantly accept the challenge of.
First person then sees:
has accepted your challenge, let the battle begin!
Ok feedback, critiquing on anything? What lines show, what commands? Etc

There is a little something called the arena.
Jillian2007-01-02 17:13:12
Vix has a point, although it could be neat for RP like challenging someone to a public fight after a discussion. You'd have to deal with spam from the world though, kinda why I think arena's were added in the first place. Also, both people would be in the same room already, this can be either an advantage or disadvantage.
Lysandus2007-01-02 17:34:00
1) Not a good idea
2) We got the arena for that
3) If this idea goes through, it shows how lazy people will get, c'mon people, it's just a few walks away to the Klangratch Tournies plus its better cause it won't consume charges, sips and herbs done in the arena except for the loser or when its considered a draw.

This is hardly a problem. Sometimes people want actual duels. (Why do you not just do it off-plane though?)
Gwylifar2007-01-02 17:56:54
So it's basically just a DECLARE alternative that displays something to the other person?
Forren2007-01-02 18:19:00
If you're holding an honorable duel, declaring isn't an issue.. if there's status left over, kick the other person.
Daganev2007-01-02 18:33:28
The arena is not really a good option for dueling trackers and wiccans
But dueling off plane sounds like a good idea!

I think this is a good alternative to declare, but it would be rather superfluous given as how there are already enough ways to game the system that make it easy to have duels and then quietly remove status. This would, however, be useful in the case that you are dueling an idiot who decides to keep and abuse the status (lawl he bash a lot so I harmony curse ^^) rather than kicking afterwards. One thing that I do not want to see (even though it hasn't been suggested yet) is a WoW-like ending to the duel: duel status is cleared, both parties temporarily graced against each other, and the loser kept at 1 health. Would take so much in-game meaning out of the duel.

You should.

It was worth it.
Anywho, I think this could be an okay idea.
If you lose the duel, you die.
Perhaps set different rules ad hoc, such as not being able to run, or turning on a shield that protects the duelers from teaming, etc.

Why not just duel with declare on prime or fight off prime? This just seems unneeded I dunno.

'cause then Avechna gets grumpy. And you can't do it if you have suspect and want to keep it. I guess.
Malarious2007-01-03 03:13:09
Some seemed to have missed it due to poor naming conventions.. a spar is in the arena a duel is not.. and it is more to be public about it.. if your not on prime dont have to declare or use duel or anything else anyway.. this is for duels like at the aetherplex.

In other words, this is for the stroking of your e-peen.
I see...
Can anyone think of any situations in which it might be abusable?

I. ARENAS
---------
The the Klangratch Tournies, named after the Vernal God Klangratch, the
Axe of War, is a place where the mortals of Lusternia may fight without
the normal losses associated with combat. While battling in the Arena, no
experience will be lost from death, and salves or elixirs will not be used
up. Further, plants that you eat will not disappear, but stay in your
inventory, although taking plants out of your pocketbelt will decrease the
number of plants in it.
In more recent times each city has managed to purchase its own arena.
Avechna's Peak : The Klangratch Tournies
Private, individual use of the arena is often called sparring. To use the arena
for spars, journey to one of the arena's staging grounds. Once there, you may
CHALLENGE. The player you challenge must also be in that room. In
order to use the Arena, each of you will have to have gold in your inventory.
This is the fee that the city charges for the privilege of using its arena.
(See also HELP SPARWHO)
The arena is also used for a number of group events, such as Freezetag,
Slippers, and Free-for-all. During any of these events, ES, or EVENTSTATUS
will give you some information about the event. Additionally, if you go to the
spectator stands in the Arena, you may DIAGNOSE (or just DIAG) any player
currently participating in order to see what afflictions he or she has. (See
HELP FREEZETAG, HELP SLIPPERS, HELP FREEFORALL, and HELP WARGAMES)
Players level 9 and under are never able to participate in any arena group
events. Starting at level 10 (or higher, if set for the individual event)
players may participate in any arena group event.
Arena death does not cost experience, though it may affect combat ranking.
Attacks that cause hunger do not work in the arena.
You will leave the arena with the same levels of endurance and willpower as you
entered it.
The arena is a device to spar outside of normal reality thus anything that
happens within the arena should not be carried to the rest of Lusternia.
II. ARENA COMMANDS
------------------
CHALLENGE : Challenge a player to a duel
ES/EVENTSTATUS : Get some information on whatever event (if any) is
currently taking place in the Arena, including
a list of participants.

Again someone asks you for a duel.. that is OUT of the arena... as I said poor naming conventions.
Would you care to spar refers to the arena.. that is how things always seems.. contrary to HELP ARENA and even ES where it says duel.
Duels tend to be at the aetherplex and public so people can learn. If you want to stroke your ego then you shouldnt be in duels. Duels show you have the honour to give a formal request over jumping someone. I prefer not to jump others but rather duel.

Why would you want to fight someone and keep suspect, it seems like an odd thing to do, suspect is there to let you avoid fights with that person if you want to fight drop suspect and just fight anyway.
So whats the difference between this new duel thing and just actually fighting anyway, I'm not saying I'm against it just I don't see any point to it really, the arena is there for practice with no loss of exp/herbs/etc and the rest of the world is there for normal every day to day fights or duels if you want to call it that.
Lysandus2007-01-03 12:00:34
If someone declares you and the one declared fights back, suspect is Null.
ferlas2007-01-03 17:22:26
Why do we need extra things for this though?
