Ok. One of us is wrong about the definition of libel then, since AFAIK it's just written slander. I'll defer to you on this one since I only have the "common knowledge" thing for reference...I've never checked it out specifically.

As per Google (Though there multiple definitions for each)...
Libel is written defamation; untrue words written down as opposed to said aloud.
Slander is oral defamation, untrue words said aloud as opposed to written down.
---
As per Phred's link below, "Proving a defamatory statement to be true is often the best defense against a prosecution for libel."

Actually this counts as libel since it's a message board. The definition is written here:

The lawsuits you talk about Bhiele are a result of the court system and some successful suits. They in no way change the actual laws on the books, and in some cases employers will tell the truth--they are not required to not give out detailed information if they so choose to do so.
Employers just usually take the easy way out because it's cheaper for them, some will specify if a serious breach of contract is conducted. It doesn't mean they have no right to say it. It's just a lot of firings are subjective and deal with personality conflicts.
Anyway... to the Admins, to get this back on topic.
Looking forward to the Town Hall...

Considering my law office has won several such suits, I suppose that is where I got my information from. I don't even know why I am posting again, this isn't a thread about this crap. I congratulated Estarra and Co. on a good job and said I what I did due to the now negative taste in my mouth regarding being privy to information that should stay between IRE and the person accused.

I know nothing about American law.. but as far as English law is concerned, you'd have a very very hard time making a case out of that. But anyway.. like you said.. off topic...

I've only been playing Lusternia a month or so, but it has far exceeded my expectations. The playerbase is fun to play with - IC allies and enemies alike - and it seems like virtually everyone makes an effort to actually play a -character- in a larger story, which is exactly what I was looking for.
The admins are active, responsive, and seem to care a lot about the things I value in my gaming experience as well. Having played a variety of online games for years, there is a really great crew, here, and it makes all the difference.
I'll resist the temptation to turn this into an "I'd like to thank the academy" speech where I start naming off individuals and groups that have specifically made my time in Lusternia great, so let me just express a great deal of appreciation for a very high-quality playerbase and very high-calibre admins that keep this story evolving.

Nevermind, been covered. Back to doritos.
Ashteru2007-01-07 03:23:43
Hah, I'll just say, I am about two years or so into Lusternia now, that speaks for itself, I guess.
Great job, anyhow, best game I ever played. ^^

With the amount of time some of us spend on your game, you guys up in the havens are certainly doing something right.

Has 2006 come and gone so quickly? Yes, indeed, it has! I'd like to take this time to review what's been happening this past year as candidly as possible. There have certainly been some ups and downs, but I am very proud of what was accomplished and look forward to what the new year shall bring.
Overall, I am very pleased too.
QUOTE
But life goes on {after Hajamin} and so did we, as the first of the library contests were initiated in January and Lisaera, a volunteer coder at that time, was revamping the order and shrine system. Around this time, Lisaera became a paid staff member. A few other features were implemented, such as the esteem system and the cosmic guardian symbols (which some of you remember was released through an event where the Supernals and Demon Lords went into their Time of Sleeping).
Those were great additions to the game.
QUOTE
Our major project, however, that we had been working on for some time prior, was the release of aetherspace. I'm not sure if anyone realizes what a coding accomplishment the aethercraft system is, but all credit for coding goes squarely on Roark's shoulder (though you can thank me for design)...This was probably one of my favorite opening events, which behind the scenes we called the "Gnomes in Space" event.
That was really incredible and I remember all the excitement over this--probably the most excitement I've seen in the game this year!
QUOTE
Over the next several months as the mid-year approached, several of our volunteers retired, which hit me personally rather hard as I had to ask myself, was it my fault? This was a very dark time for me, as I had promised players the aethercraft specializations as the next priority but our corporate masters demanded a complete overhaul of the code in preparation for the next version of Rapture.
Yeah, it was sad that all the scholarly gods, Lacostian, Raezon, and Elcyrion had to leave, but I think it's hard to continue volunteer efforts when the "real world economics" start calling. And Isune departed which hit me hard.
QUOTE
Around this time, we began the process of diluting the effects of the conflicts quests, namely the Faethorn quests, Inner Sea and cosmic plane quests, which had mixed reactions. Some accused us of eviscerating conflict altogether but time proved that it was the right decision, as there was a decrease in the amount of player turnover and a palatable lessening of frustration.
You did the right thing. The problem with conflict quests is some people just do them too much and it was a lot of work to "restore the balance". That's the problem when some people play 12 hours a day and others play 4-5 hours a week.
QUOTE
Roark was finally able to finish the aethercraft specializations. On top of that we went forward to again enhance aetherspace by designing and implementing the aetherspace trading system. At this point, I am very pleased with aetherspace and feel it is one of our best features.
It's cool. Let's see what more we can do with it. I'd like to see some "aetherpirates" and some better combat involved. Hopefully the Nexus worlds will lead to it.
QUOTE
Our two year anniversary climaxed with the release of the bards, and it was really fun to surprise the players with it! I hope you enjoyed the bards release as much as we did. I think the anniversary got everyone's spirits up.
Yup, this was the other exciting thing! Bards seem to have been popular.
QUOTE
Wow! A lot has happened this year indeed. There were several other events I didn't mention, notably the Fae Marriage, the Morgfyre Event (returning first as the Golden Lord), and the Dark Spirits of Serenwilde. Plus don't forget the new areas: Snow Valley, the Presidio of the Damned and the Shallamurine Cathedral, Mount Zoaka, Tolborolla Valley, and all the aetherbubbles (including Xion and Cankermore).
You've done quite a fantastic job expanding things!
QUOTE
What will 2007 bring? Should I tell you that there will be new archetypes? New skillsets and specializations? Ascended Gods? Nexus world conflicts? Grand events and new expansions?
Nah, I'll just say we'll continue as we always have, striving to make the best darn multiuser online text roleplaying game ever to exist throughout the entire known multiverse and beyond!
I'm interested in seeing the new archetypes, and Grand Events. Yes, this is a wonderful place, and I really really enjoy it.
Shorlen2007-01-07 04:09:34
We don't need new archetypes until we have more players.
We don't need new archetypes that haven't been betatested.
We don't need a repeat of the bards, where over half their skills did nothing at release, and they were riddled with massive design flaws that kept them from being viable in combat, and they really thinned out the other guilds to fill them.
We shouldn't release new archetypes until the playerbase grows some more anyway. We already have guilds that have serious issues finding active elected leaders.

Thank you for this letter. I know it can be hard to be open with the public.

Oo, new skills and specializations! *dreams of a chocolate-maker/chocolatier specialization for cooking* /random
And indeed 2006 was filled with much fun. I didn't think I'd stick around because of school, but... I'm still here

Noola2007-01-07 05:58:26
Why're ya'll pointing out that there needs to be more people before archetypes are realeased like they're planning on doing it tomorrow? There's still like 359 days in the year.
Krellan2007-01-07 06:41:32
heh Shorlen's right on it though, There's so few of some guild as it is. Though maybe new general skills could be fun to busy ourselves with instead. ooh i would definately love to see some actualy ship vs ship aetherspace combat. I'm all ready to specialize, but I just don't see any combat at all. There should be definately be some sort of arranged aetherspace combat!
Unknown2007-01-07 07:18:50
Estarra mentioning archetype's, along with everything else, was more a little toying at the broad range of possibilities over the coming year(s). That's how I read it.

We need aethership arenas, and an envoy report directed at aethercraft. I can see a few things that are really needed, personally, especially some kind of warp intradiciton field that prevented ships from fusioning away when you closed on them, and an empath skill to see what ships were nearby and in what direction (the current scan is worthless for actually finding people, only for knowing if you are alone in aetherspace or not. It's more like who without thirdeye than a scry )

I found out about that power bug today that aetherships experience. How annoying.

Which, that putting power from a ship to a nexus is half as efficient as using it in the ship?
