Losing hope

I posted a little about this (and my frustraton) in the 2006 Review. Losing hope that Lyreth will come back, Estarra didn't even mention him in her post.

So, my question to the masses, Do I give up hope, and, if not move on, than at least stop setting myself up for disappointment, or do I hold onto this little shred of faith that I have that he'll come back?

Raezon followers, you know the feelings I'm talking about.

Seriously, I know it sounds harsh but I think orders of inactive gods should be dissolved. There's really no point, and when another player takes over the god they usually want to start with their order from scratch anyway. Lisaera did something right there when she left.

I actually have to agree here. I was in Raezon's order for along time after he went totally inactive and I never wanted to leave because I had been in it from the start, but it really was rather pointless. It kind of turned into everyone just moping around wondering when he'd come back. It eventually got to the point where the OH left and we couldn't even bring in new members, so I took my first opportunity to leave for another divine that I liked.

I mean, I don't know how long Lyreth has been gone, but if it's been a few months I don't want to tell you to give up hope but I wouldn't really expect anything either.
Doman2007-01-06 20:38:24
I actually asked on the beta server the other day, basically wanting to know if something happened, and a divine (which will remain nameless) told me, after I asked twice "Take the hint, and notice I am ignoring the question." I am just getting kinda depressed over it.

P.S. The first time I asked him, it was spammy, so I was asking again to see if he heard me, wasn't poking him and saying "Where's Lyreth, huh? Huh?"
Zalandrus2007-01-06 22:38:01
I think it's time to give up, Doman.

I've messaged Estarra about it, nothing. I've also asked Terentia indirectly about it in game, and she basically gave an "I dunno" answer (or what I construed to be one).

Something must've happened, and now it's time to move on... sad.gif Lyreth was such a fun god too
Unknown2007-01-06 23:48:05
They can't really answer no because they'll either ruin a planned plot line or cut bridges for a future eph who wants to take up the mantle of that god.
Vix2007-01-07 04:41:49
I have agree that dissolving the order when going inactive is a good idea. After Lisaera left, if the order wasn't dissolved I'd probably still be in it and might not have joined Charune. wub.gif
Shiri2007-01-07 04:48:29
Hmm. I like being in Isune's order still. It sucks that she's gone but I wouldn't want to be kicked out again. sad.gif

It's possible to have a lot of RP around a departed deity.

However, Doman, I think if the gods been totally inactive for more than a few months, it's time to either accept that he may be gone a very long time (if not forever), and RP the god's absence, or else choose another god.

Gods are just like mortal players. Sometimes, they depart the game for a variety of reasons. If a character makes his or her devotion to a god, there is always a risk the god will depart, just as players do.

It's a risk--I would never urge players to put a lot of their RP into one particular elder god for that reason, unless they are willing to assume the risks of what can happen.

Lusternia stimulates roleplay almost exclusively around gods - Who never last long, generally leaving a lot of debris behind. I think it would be more productive if more players did what me, Richter, Gwylifar and Exarius have tried to do - Start organizations that can eventually become self-sufficient. It would be even better if those attempts succeeded in being robust enough to outlive their founders.

Verithrax, I hate to burst your swelling bubble of pomposity, but you no longer play! Your already dubious bragging rights are entirely obviated by this fact. Perhaps you should start again?

On topic. There's plenty of space to roleplay in your god's absence. If you're not prepared to do that, cut your losses and move on. It seems to me that you'd be better off moving on, so do so.
Gwylifar2007-01-08 17:48:10
I must take exception. Verithrax's bragging rights aren't obviated by his not playing because they didn't make it that far.
Reiha2007-01-08 17:58:33
I always thought you were a great represenative, and although you won't be getting favours from him anymore, you can still RP being a loyal follower. Not many people see god (or claim to, whatever wording you prefer) in real life, and are loyal to the very end.

Lyreth's characteristics were very similar to your own character, and if you are order head (don't remember, sorry blush.gif ) you can still bring in people to RP things. Zalana I think is still a loyal follower of Raezon, and although I missed RPing that, Ildaudid managed to convince me to join Morgfyre's order tongue.gif (And Jaskata is still in Raezon's order, too, btw.)

If it makes you too sad to RP being a part of his order, then by all means quit. If you can deal with it, stay and have fun. A little bit of self-suffcient and self-motivated roleplay is never really a bad thing.

Oh, screw you and the poncy brit you rode on.

Ebonguard RP has never revolved around gods.

I've never once seen someone from the ebonguard complain about not having an active god. And we've had plenty of time when the patrons of glomdoring were either non existant or gone.

Only time its ever been a problem was when we wanted changes to our guildhall done.
Doman2007-01-08 21:44:17
Yes, I'm order head. Last person with inducting rights, so, if I leave, the order basically dies. I really do like RPing it.

Thanks for the support guys, you're awesome.
Hazar2007-01-08 21:55:08
At least you have inducting. No one left in Shikari's order can baptize, as far as I can tell. sleep.gif I really like the small bits of roleplay I get from 'following' Shikari, but I've got this (paranoid) fear that He will come back, but I'll be outvoiced by those who just want to be special, but didn't care before, and I'll be stuck in the outer circle because I missed his appearance because of a paper or something I had to work.

That could pretty much be in Idiots, but it was in reply, so...whatever. mellow.gif

And re Daganev...sure, we didn't complain, but in the Ebonguard you didn't complain about anything. Ever. That's only just now been changing, and we have an active Viravain. So your response doesn't really count. Especially because Glomdoring (and thus Ebonguard) roleplay so monolithically followed Viravain.

As hazar said glomdorings roleplay is based entirely on one god, if viravain went inactive there would be trouble.

Excuse me.... Viravain has been inactive for OOC MONTHS before.

First we had Viravain I, then we had Shikari for a little while, and we had two gods, then we only had Shikari and no Viravain, for the longest while. Then Shikari left, and we had nobody, then Viravain came back, then she left again, then she came back, then she died! Then she came back again.

Maelee can induct people to the order. She plays imperian, she thinks nobody cares about the order so doesn't play here, from what I can tell smile.gif

Lots of people complain in the ebonguard. I get complaints about the silliest of things very often.
