Excuse me if there's already been a thread about this.
Bardic guilds should get a type of guard that they can place about the city/commune's territory also. My idea is that Bards have two types of guards open to them, one that'll play a strengthening song that aids city/commune guards and any citizens (kind of like CelestOde and the other equivalents), and another type that'll play a song that will weaken or slow city/commune enemies. The songs would only affect the room the guard is in, and when the guard moves, so does the song's effects.
The guards wouldn't be very useful by themselves though, and that's the only major problem I can think of with them.
Comments?

I want the guards to have highjump.
Vix2007-01-06 23:07:20
The Spiritsingers should steal the elfen guards from the Serenguard.

Bards don't have a discretionary power, either. Just saying.

Elfen guards are useless anyway, and a bit too metrosexual on top of that.

I like this idea!
I propose that the Glom weakening bard-guards be called Dirgesingers. That's the only idea I have that's working right now...

what if bard guards sang songs to empower, heal, and cure city/commune allies in the room?

I actually like this. What if they cured guards too so that they're useful for that?
Felandi2007-01-08 10:16:04
Hmm, they could cure afflictions periodically perhaps? Similarly to Syphon in Nihilism.

Bardic guards with PerfectFifth. It'll never be approved, but it's a fun idea--

Awww, I liked the elfen guards. The frost hags and centaur hunters are nice but dull; "I'm so strong, fear me" is a boring personality, they might as well be ur'Guard marshalls. But the moon maidens being creepy/cheery, and the elfen guards flirting with everything that moved, they had personality. Panache, even.

1) Summon, empress, lust, beckon or rune victim into room.
2) Use guard's help to kill victim easily.
3) ???
4) Profit!
Is there any objective reason why bard guards need to be speshul in any way?
Shorlen2007-01-08 15:24:46
What's the need for them if they're not? We already have two guilds with perfectly good normal guards...
Verithrax2007-01-08 15:49:46
Distribution of power among the guilds, enhancing the political equality of the guilds. I could get behind bard guards being able to stop some current circumvention of guards, but is there any?
Gwylifar2007-01-08 17:50:12
Yes. Hence the highjump suggestion way back near the top.
Reiha2007-01-08 18:09:44
Well, since we have two guilds with guards, and one with the ability to infuse stuff into the ground (not sure if this is only mages), maybe have Bards summon a special intrument that can be placed in the room? (And of course can't move around). Like a elaborate music box (or maybe that mysterious sphere), and as it plays, it "empowers, heals, and cures city/commune allies" as Narsrim suggested? Not too strong, but hopefully not too weak, either. Something nice and balanced.

There's no balanced point because something like this can be used against non-city enemies and for purposes unrelated to city defense...
Reiha2007-01-08 18:25:39
Well, if it heals the guards only, then I think it can work. And activated once a guard is attacked.
