Website on Statistics
Recently, I found this website when I was trying to find any studies done on MUDs in particular.
However, I've not been able to identify any accurate information for what I'm looking for. So with that in mind, I've decided to do a few studies of my own. I've been wanting to study the economics, cultural adapations/cultural immersions, ethnical statistics, and racial statistics of those who currently are avid MUD players. I know Estarra once mentioned that at least 75% of MUD players have had some sort of military experience. I'd like to go deeper and examine ethnic groups, cultural influences and cultural groups, racial groups, as well as sexual orientation and education backgrounds. I'll discuss this more once I gather all the materials that I need to begin. Anyone know of any good and sound scientific studies that I might get my hands on?

75% have military experience? Is that true?
A few taken from Richard Bartle's awesome book on Virtual Worlds:
The Norrathian Scrolls
Codename Blue: An Ongoing Study of MMORPG Players.
HEARTS, CLUBS, DIAMONDS, SPADES: PLAYERS WHO SUIT MUDS
The Journal of Virtual Environments
There is a wealth of resources in the complete list at:

Given most of us are high school/college students, I doubt it. Might be true for some other MUD maybe.

I'd be surprised, I figured most of us were teens.
Oh, and *point signature*! Great book.

A lot of people in the military play MUDs, not sure if it is 75%... but a lot do, especially IRE. (Off hand, between here and Imperian -old haunt- I can think of seven players who are in the military in some form without much effort. Number goes up when considering spouses of servicemen/women.
It makes sense though... military tends to cover things like health coverage, housing, and assists in many other expenses, so military peeps who lack transportation sit on base with a bank full of money, so they come to IRE games where they can spend money and do something instead of get drunk.

That's interesting, I never knew that. Why MUDs though? Instead of surfing the net looking at ... pictures ... and doing other stuff.

I was in the Army National Guard years ago.
