Well, it's just food for thought anyway. I can't say I'm aware of the rarity of jewels... I thought they all had the same chance of spawning - thus the identical prices in the vial market.

I was never a crafter in any of the other IRE games, but in Aetolia - I found amazing that there were so many designs that let one use just so many odd things for commodities. I know there are tailoring that make use of manta rays, sharks, etc, along with jewelry that requires staghorn and stuff.

Is there a way to make it so that any item can techincally be used as a commodity, and then just have the Charities simply reject any design that isn't good?

That's actually how cooking works in Aetolia. Recipes using quest items are especially challenging.

I want light essence as a comm...
Genevieve2007-01-21 20:43:48
Isn't it already used in some recipies?
Sylphas2007-01-21 22:36:16
We need patterns that have the potential to start wars. Angel/demon/fae comms ftw!
Daganev2007-01-21 22:50:30
I never understood these desires for new commodity items... Just fake it!
Sylphas2007-01-22 06:51:12
Faking it a nice way of getting things done, but when mechanics interfere with it (i.e. you actually do have to specify what something is made from), it gets to be a pain in the ass. I can't say something is made of chocolate, then just use fruit or something in the recipe.
Anarias2007-01-22 06:56:12
Faking it is generally a good way to get the designs rejected.
Daganev2007-01-22 19:10:01
I fake it all the time.

for example... (pretending they would ever allow choclate on anything)

A fruity chocolate puree

This puree, made mostly from fruits, is a pleasant blend of various fruits mixed to imitate the flavor of chocolate. With the added color of apples left out for too long, the mixture has an eery resemblance to the color of chocolate.

Am not angry.gif Onyx is rare!

You're arguing two different points.

Onyx is the same cut-rate as the other gems, but it's used far more frequently, which means it disappears faster... which leads to a shortage (ie, "rare").

I just wish there was a way to get antlers without actually having to kill the buck. I'm tired of Serenwilde getting all pissy because I'm trying to kill the deer. Deer antlers fall off naturally anyway, so shouldn't they be scattered about the forest anyway. Or maybe if you hit the stag once his antlers fall off, but he lives to run away and sleep it off. SOMETHING. PLEASE.
Diamondais2007-01-22 21:01:47
There are those around the forest however. One at the very least.

Pull the horn off the unicorn and use that instead?

Here's what the Charites have said:
QUOTE
On to food… Chocolate is made with cocoa beans; Vanilla is made with
vanilla beans, as we have no areas in Lusternia that could support such
a specialized ingredient please do not attempt to use these until a
mortal is able to discover a jungle somewhere where these plants grow.

Due to the inconsistencies of design approval you could get that example design above approved but the chances are not great for a lot of reasons. You can't just fake it like that. Qaletaqa came up with a way around it but it was through using different comms and different adjectives. Saying rotted apples taste and look like chocolate is ridiculous.

And when a design says that it needs certain comms you can't just go grab things that are kinda similar. You need those items specifically.

Experience tells me otherwise, and if you make it convincing enough (yes fruit and choclate was a bad example, as I said) you could do it.

You don't need a wyrnstone specifically, you just need something made to look like wyrn stone.
Sylphas2007-01-22 23:17:09
Cocoa is most likely from a fountain, not a submitted design.

Also, if it's close enough to pass, it's not really faking it. I mean, I can make something that LOOKS like it was made from ice, and is really diamond or something, but it's not really ice, and there's a huge difference between them.
