Do normal dress robes increase influence greater than great robes(ones with armor)?
Or is there real no reason beyond just a different look to wear non-greatrobes?

Non-greatrobes are just clothing like any other. They're also a tenth the price.

Great-robes can be enchanted and can offer armor to mages and such.

Err, yes, he was talking about non-greatrobes, as there are some designs for them.
