Hi everyone,

This is an interesting experiment I would like to try. Below is a fairly lengthy quiz determining what you believe your nation's RP and philosophy to be. There are no right or wrong answers, because it is a survey of what you think your organization's beliefs should be. It might not necessarily be the same as what the leadership believes or has believed, so don't be afraid to say something that goes against popular opinion. You can answer as briefly as you like, and if you think there are questions missing you can add those onto the end so that the next person can answer those too if they like.

There are two reasons I'd like to conduct this quiz, first to get an idea of to what degree the players choose to act consistent with the old nations from the histories, and second to illustrate how well-defined each nation's identity might be. If there are wildly different responses from players of a single nation, we will be able to identify a problem. A tiny additional motivation is that I'm simply curious to read other player interpretations of Lusternia's background. wink.gif

This should be answered using your character's beliefs as much as possible, though some OOC objectivity might be necessary in explaining where they come from. Imagine you are explaining what your vision of the nation would be, if you could set the RP tone.

I hope you enjoy answering it, and that we get enough responses to make comparison useful! Here we go.

My answers are below (shifted because Anaria is mean!):

1. What is your main character's nation?
Serenwilde

2. What is your nation's fundamental purpose? Use no more than one sentence.
Preserving the natural order, healing the natural world where it has been destroyed or sickened.

3. What is your nation's definition of the Taint?
A corruption of the physical and spiritual, performed by Kethuru and his agents.

4. Will your nation tolerate the existence of Taint?
No, though it is not the highest priority right now.

5. What is your nation's definition of the Light?
A dangerous and self-centred philosophy that is propagated by cosmic beings with little care for the well-being of the physical and ethereal worlds.

6. Will your nation tolerate the existence of the Light?
It is not desirable in any large population, but again is not the highest priority right now.

7. What is your nation's definition of the Wyrd?
It is the forced alteration and often corruption of the physical and spiritual, a derivative of the Taint created by two Goddesses and which is particularly focused upon twisting the natural world.

8. Will your nation tolerate the existence of the Wyrd?
No.

9. What is your nation's definition of Nature?
That which exists in both the physical and ethereal planes, and has not been removed from the natural cycles of the world by external or corruptive forces.

10. Will your nation tolerate the existence of Nature?
Well, considering without it there would be no life, yes.

11. Will your nation tolerate the existence of the undead?
No. Undeath is a manipulation of the natural to remove living things from the natural cycles.

12. Which nation has given yours the most reason to oppose them? Why? (Briefly)
Glomdoring. They represent the perversion and rape of Serenwilde's most sacred and revered concepts - both the fae and the forest itself. They are also responsible for constantly defiling the memory of Gloriana with awful imitation of its past existence and inhabitants.

13. Is there any nation with which you have little to no disagreement? If so, which?
Celest. It is responsible for the Taint, but more and more our problem with the Taint is evaporating, and thus so too does our problem with them.

14. Are there any races which receive special treatment in your nation? Which and why? (Briefly)
Yes, Faelings, Viscanti and Elfen. Elfen are treated as forestkin and the saviours of Nature. Faelings are often revered because they are children of the blessed fae. Viscanti are shunned and often loathed, being carriers of Taint.

15. Does your nation believe individual freedom is more important than collective responsibility and duty?
No. Individual freedom is not a major part of Serenwilde's culture.

16. Does your nation believe that its people or its physical and planar areas have more influence on its culture?
Its physical and planar areas. Serenwilde is Serenwilde because of the White Hart and Mother Moon, which are tied to the physical location of the forest.

17. Does your nation believe that their Guides (Cosmic/Elemental Lords and Great Spirits) are infallible?
Yes.

18. Does your nation believe that their Guides should override their mortal leadership?
Yes.

19. Does your nation seek expansion and conquest? (Not counting swaying villages)
Not in the sense of expanding Serenwilde. It does seek to heal places touched by barrenness or corruption, however.

20. Finally, list three to five core beliefs unique to your nation alone that do not reference individual entities. (Not "we follow White Hart" for instance).
* The ancient ways are to be respected and followed - tradition is sacred.
* Mysticism and secrecy are necessary for true worship, for Serenwilde's ways are beyond the grasp of the common folk.
* Nature is inviolate, and should never be manipulated or altered against the natural order.
* Memory is our most valuable treasure, as we must always learn from the past.
* A balance between cyclical renewal and the preservation of the old must be maintained.

That was actually more thought-provoking to do than I thought. smile.gif

One thing I didn't mention but should... please don't respond to this topic with criticisms or objections to what other people write. You can ask for clarification I guess, but I would like to ask that arguments or insults be aggressively moderated.

20. Finally, list three to five core beliefs unique to your nation alone that do not reference individual entities. (Not "we follow White Hart" for instance).
I really don't think there is one ideal that is truly unique. If there was, perhaps it would be something about not changing nature.

11. Will your nation tolerate the existence of the undead?
The taint's undeath isn't to be tolerated.

12. Which nation has given yours the most reason to oppose them? Why? (Briefly)
Glomdoring. Direct opposition through the enmity between Hart and Crow, indirect through ways too numerous to count.

13. Is there any nation with which you have little to no disagreement? If so, which?
No. The other nations are all menaces.

14. Are there any races which receive special treatment in your nation? Which and why? (Briefly)
Elfen because their characteristics change positively when they follow Moon and Hart.

15. Does your nation believe individual freedom is more important than collective responsibility and duty?
No.

16. Does your nation believe that its people or its physical and planar areas have more influence on its culture?
Though the Serens and the lands they live in are deeply connected it is ultimately the people that shape its culture.

17. Does your nation believe that their Guides (Cosmic/Elemental Lords and Great Spirits) are infallible?
Not in the slightest.

18. Does your nation believe that their Guides should override their mortal leadership?

20. Finally, list three to five core beliefs unique to your nation alone that do not reference individual entities. (Not "we follow White Hart" for instance).
We believe in the purity of nature.
We believe in reverencing our ancestors and receiving guidance from them.
We believe in governing ourselves by mutual respect and good will rather than governing through highly centralised monarchical political bodies.
Tekora2007-01-26 05:39:25
1. What is your main character's nation?
New Celest

2. What is your nation's fundamental purpose? Use no more than one sentence.
To provide safety and prosperity to the free mortals of Lusternia, preserve civilized culture, and to eradicate the Taint from the Basin of Life.

3. What is your nation's definition of the Taint?
The Taint is a virulent disease, unleashed by the selfish ambition of our ancestors, which imprisons the minds of mortalkind to serve its own means, which include the destruction of the Light.

4. Will your nation tolerate the existence of Taint?
No.

5. What is your nation's definition of the Light?
The Light is the guiding force of New Celest. It is where we draw our power, our beliefs, and our culture.

6. Will your nation tolerate the existence of the Light?
We condone and worship it.

7. What is your nation's definition of the Wyrd?
An unnatural form of nature, born from, yet separate and different from the Taint. As such, the Wyrd is its own unique element.

8. Will your nation tolerate the existence of the Wyrd?
Yes.

9. What is your nation's definition of Nature?
A natural force of the First World, it encompasses much, and is to be respected for the sake that it is a powerful force in the First World.

10. Will your nation tolerate the existence of Nature?
Taming of Nature is required for the development of civilization, but the destruction of Nature is always regrettable and never without reason.

11. Will your nation tolerate the existence of the undead?
No.

12. Which nation has given yours the most reason to oppose them? Why? (Briefly)
Magnagora. Being a Tainted City and the center of power for the Taint, it is them which are the most eminent threat to the safety of not only Celest and the Light, but also to the entire First World.

13. Is there any nation with which you have little to no disagreement? If so, which?
Glomdoring, as they do not seek to harm the Light. Thus, we have no quarrel with them.

14. Are there any races which receive special treatment in your nation? Which and why? (Briefly)
Merians are recognized as the founders of New Celest, but no natural race is considered greater or lesser than any other. Viscanti, being born from the Taint, are not considered a natural race, and so Viscanti citizens, rare though they are, are afforded many of the same freedoms as untainted citizens, but they are not allowed to link with the Pool of Stars, to prevent their inherent taint from despoiling the nexus.

15. Does your nation believe individual freedom is more important than collective responsibility and duty?
Freedom is highly valued, it is why we fight against the Taint, but to serve the Light in return for the gifts it provides is the penultimate honor for a citizen of New Celest.

16. Does your nation believe that its people or its physical and planar areas have more influence on its culture?
Our culture is based on the Light.

We seek to eradicate the Taint from the Basin, so that all may have the choice of whether to follow the Light. We do not wish to force our beliefs on others, but we welcome with open arms any who seek to find shelter within the Light.

20. Finally, list three to five core beliefs unique to your nation alone that do not reference individual entities. (Not "we follow White Hart" for instance).
1. Show others the Glory and Love of the Light, and they shall follow. Show mercy, do not fight when words will work just as well.
2. Defend that which you hold dear with all the means at your disposal, even if it means sacrificing yourself. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.
3. Do not suffer those that would seek to harm the Light. The greatest mercy you can provide to a Tainted is to gift them release from their corporeal imprisonment.
4. Always temper your righteous resolve with prudent wisdom, and keep clear mind at all times.
5. One must always strive to hold the four tenets, Compassion, Resolve, Fervor, and Wisdom, in balance within themselves at all times. To achieve Balance is to find true enlightenment within the Light.
Xavius2007-01-26 05:46:06
1. What is your main character's nation?
Glomdoring
2. What is your nation's fundamental purpose? Use no more than one sentence.
Spread the influence of the forest and commune to subsume all of mortalkind.
3. What is your nation's definition of the Taint?
The unnatural, mutagenic substance released by Kethuru during Project Cosmic Hope.
4. Will your nation tolerate the existence of Taint?
Insofar as the substance does not appear to prevent submission to Glomdoring, yes. Glomdoring would prefer it be removed, however.
5. What is your nation's definition of the Light?
The philosophy of the cosmic planes, most notably Celestia, and propagated among mortals through Celest and the Star Council.
6. Will your nation tolerate the existence of the Light?
In the extreme, no. The philosophy is a barrier to full acceptance of Glomdoring. In practical terms, it is irrelevant, so long as those who follow the Light are willing to permit the expansion of Glomdoring.
7. What is your nation's definition of the Wyrd?
Literally, a mauve, gaseous fertilizer formed through unknown means from a synthesis of taint-stuff rendered inert by a nature nexus and the will of two goddesses. Figuratively, the spiritual power of Glomdoring or the demesne manifestation of Ethereal Glomdoring.
8. Will your nation tolerate the existence of the Wyrd?
Yes, without qualification.
9. What is your nation's definition of Nature?
In reference to a place, that which is not excessively modified by civilization. In reference to a way of life, a philosophy that promotes study and worship of the totem spirits.
10. Will your nation tolerate the forced alteration or taming of Nature?
This question is based on broad generalizations, abuse of a multiple-meaning word, and false assumptions, and as such, cannot be given a straight answer.
11. Will your nation tolerate the existence of the undead?
Begrudgingly. Very begrudgingly. They are not to be afforded equal status with the truly living, but the undead can be brought under the influence of Glomdoring.
12. Which nation has given yours the most reason to oppose them? Why? (Briefly)
Serenwilde. Serenwilde seeks the destruction of a forest and its inhabitants, an unwarranted mortal hoarding and possessiveness of the teachings of the totem spirits which are beyond mortalkind, and general misrepresentations of the truth and their own agendas.
13. Is there any nation with which you have little to no disagreement? If so, which?
Any nation which is willing to accept terms favorable to the growth, security, and prosperity of the Glomdoring and enforce these terms using their own resources will find little disagreement. Celest accomplishes this best.
14. Are there any races which receive special treatment in your nation? Which and why? (Briefly)
No.
15. Does your nation believe individual freedom is more important than collective responsibility and duty?
No. Submission to Glomdoring is the highest ideal.
16. Does your nation believe that its people or its physical and planar areas have more influence on its culture?
The people are subject to, in order, Lady Viravain, Brother Crow and Mother Night, the non-patron totem spirits, and the Shadow Court. Brother Crow and Mother Night are subject to Lady Viravain. The Shadow Court is directly subject to Lady Viravain, and to the other forces as part of their membership in their respective guilds. So, ultimately, all is subject to the creatrix of Glomdoring.
17. Does your nation believe that their Guides (Cosmic/Elemental Lords and Great Spirits) are infallible?
Infallibility is not claimed by Lady Viravain Herself. The Great Spirits are themselves creations.
18. Does your nation believe that their Guides should override their mortal leadership?
When in doubt, ask Viravain. When Viravain is not available, the council of the totem spirits should be given great weight and assumed to be wise unless substantial evidence exists to the contrary.
19. Does your nation seek expansion and conquest? (Not counting swaying villages)
Yes, without qualification. Lands, minds, hearts, labor, resources, and governments shall all belong to Glomdoring. Nothing matters but Glomdoring. Glory be to Glomdoring.
20. Finally, list three to five core beliefs unique to your nation alone that do not reference individual entities. (Not "we follow White Hart" for instance).
Leaders are not judged by their dogmatic adherence to any certain principle or by popular approval. If Glomdoring benefits, they are good leaders and should be left alone. If Glomdoring does not benefit, they need to be replaced. Now.

Citizens of Glomdoring are expected to behave in a morally upright fashion because morality has proven beneficial to Glomdoring. No Great Spirit dictates it. Viravain is rather silent regarding it. It is a mortal mandate by the Shadow Court. In fact, the patron spirits of Glomdoring have given all sorts of permission to be immoral. However, because it is a mortal mandate, morality is subject to change as situations dictate.

The only inviolable priniciple in Glomdoring's culture is Glomdoring itself. Everything else can be changed.

Shadow Faelings. They are an amalgamation of Fae, Elfenehoala, and the Beautifully Powerful Wyrd. Stronger than a normal faeling, smarter, more in tune with nature, and really, fae royalty.

15. Does your nation believe individual freedom is more important than collective responsibility and duty?
No. GbtG!

16. Does your nation believe that its people or its physical and planar areas have more influence on its culture?
Physical and Planar areas definitely have more influence. Mother Night and Her fae, Crow and His dark nest of aspects--The Forest proper, they are all more important than the people of Glomdoring.

17. Does your nation believe that their Guides (Cosmic/Elemental Lords and Great Spirits) are infallible?
Hell yes. Except when Viravain says they aren't. But really, even then they aren't fallible, Viravain is just smarter.

18. Does your nation believe that their Guides should override their mortal leadership?
Yes. Except if Viravain disagrees, and then the spirits are sol.

19. Does your nation seek expansion and conquest? (Not counting swaying villages)
Eventually, maybe. But we have many more important things to deal with first.

20. Finally, list three to five core beliefs unique to your nation alone that do not reference individual entities. (Not "we follow White Hart" for instance).

+YOU HAVE NO EGO SAVE DESIRE FOR GLOMDORING'S GLORY.
+YOU HAVE NO PRIDE SAVE THE PRIDE IN THE GLORY OF GLOMDORING.
+YOU HAVE NO WORRIES SAVE THAT YOU ARE BRINGING GLORY TO GLOMDORING.
+YOU HAVE NO INTERESTS SAVE THAT OF GLOMDORING'S GLORY.
+Nothing matters but Glomdoring

Qn. 1-20
May Mother Night bind your sight and her shadows stifle your ears, for why would I desire to reveal the deepest secrets of Greatest Glomdoring to you?

((In other words, I'm stuck on some of the questions. happy.gif ))
Xavius2007-01-26 15:33:36
I mis-answered question three. I forgot that the Docet addresses it. Daganev's answer reminded me.

3. What is your nation's definition of the Taint?
"Taint" is an oft-abused word that encourages verbal and cognitive sloppiness. It refers, in turn, to Kethuru's essence (Project Cosmic Hope), the effects of Kethuru's essence on living things (the creatures in the Blasted Lands are tainted), the leftover stuff from Kethuru's touch that lost its mutagenic properties (the Sea of Despair is tainted), the Cosmic Plane of Nil, the philosophy of the Demon Lords, the Earth plane, and Geomancer demesnes. Any reasonably intelligent mortal (unfortunately, most foreigners are not reasonably intelligent) can see and acknowledge the difference between all of these. Thus, when practical, you should avoid using such an unspecific word when it evokes such strong emotion in so many people.

As for the revised question ten, I think we all know Glomdoring's answer to that. tongue.gif

1. What is your main character's nation?
The grand coalition of the Elder Gods

2. What is your nation's fundamental purpose? Use no more than one sentence.
To make fun of mortals

3. What is your nation's definition of the Taint?
An illusion made by estarra to keep the large masses of mortals in check

4. Will your nation tolerate the existence of Taint?
My nation is responsible for the taint

5. What is your nation's definition of the Light?
A compilation of illogical morals and ethics used to trap mortals and excert control over them.

6. Will your nation tolerate the existence of the Light?
It's good for a laugh.

7. What is your nation's definition of the Wyrd?
Viravain playing with things she shouldn't be playing with.

8. Will your nation tolerate the existence of the Wyrd?
I'm pretty sure Roark is still trying to clean up all the mess.

9. What is your nation's definition of Nature?
Nature is a mortal definition, Elders laugh at mortals and wonder how much liquor they must comsume to come up with all this nonsense.

10. Will your nation tolerate the existence of Nature?
As long as it keeps the mortals busy, sure.

11. Will your nation tolerate the existence of the undead?
We seem to, Fain's one.

12. Which nation has given yours the most reason to oppose them? Why? (Briefly)
We Elders are forever trying to break free of the opression exerted by Eternal Estarra, though we're not having much luck so far.

13. Is there any nation with which you have little to no disagreement? If so, which?
Hallifax and Gaudiguch, they're quiet, well-behaved and don't bother anyone.

14. Are there any races which receive special treatment in your nation? Which and why? (Briefly)
Immortals

15. Does your nation believe individual freedom is more important than collective responsibility and duty?
The Elders do, Estarra disagrees. Hence, we are all slaves.

16. Does your nation believe that its people or its physical and planar areas have more influence on its culture?
We rule all. We have no culture because we are all individuals (except Charune, he's not).

17. Does your nation believe that their Guides (Cosmic/Elemental Lords and Great Spirits) are infallible?
Half formed infallibe? *chokes laughing*.

18. Does your nation believe that their Guides should override their mortal leadership?
Estarra rules all, we just bow and scrape.

19. Does your nation seek expansion and conquest? (Not counting swaying villages)
We have no need for conquest. We rule all that we see.

20. Finally, list three to five core beliefs unique to your nation alone that do not reference individual entities. (Not "we follow White Hart" for instance).
1. Estarra is always right.
2. If Estarra is not right please refer to rule 1.
3. Mortals are food. Do not play with your food.

1. What is your main character's nation?
Glomdoring.

2. What is your nation's fundamental purpose? Use no more than one sentence.
To spread the Wyrd.

3. What is your nation's definition of the Taint?
The presence of Kethuru and attempted imitations of his presence.

4. Will your nation tolerate the existence of Taint?
Tolerate? When it serves Glomdoring and does not pose a threat to the Wyrd.. Like, or embrace- never.

5. What is your nation's definition of the Light?
The antithesis of the Taint, centered around the Holy Supernals and Celest(ia).

6. Will your nation tolerate the existence of the Light?
As long as it leaves us alone (which, at the moment, it is) it may remain to combat the Taint directly.

7. What is your nation's definition of the Wyrd?
Poetically- the epitome of perfection. Realistically, it was the gift of Isune and Viravain which gave the Forest newfound power and beauty.

8. Will your nation tolerate the existence of the Wyrd?
Yes.

9. What is your nation's definition of Nature?
Everything that isn't tainted and not cityfied.

10. Will your nation tolerate the existence of Nature?
We encourage it.

11. Will your nation tolerate the existence of the undead?
I have not seen much consideration given to this point, so there is no "Glomdoring says: We love/hate undead". I, personally, would prefer life, but I do not discriminate against the undead.

12. Which nation has given yours the most reason to oppose them? Why? (Briefly)
Serenwilde, as they continue to attempt the destruction of everything except themselves (Magnagora, because they're tainted. Celest, because they follow the Light. Glomdoring, because they're mauve-ly tainted. Hallifax, because they're frozen in time. Gaudiguch... etc.) , even when offers of friendship are given. Plus, their spirits are insane/crazy.

13. Is there any nation with which you have little to no disagreement? If so, which?
Celest, as they have no current quarrel with the Wyrd and we have none with the Light. If Serenwilde stopped being fanatical, though, we would most likely be even closer to them.

14. Are there any races which receive special treatment in your nation? Which and why? (Briefly)
Not specifically, although Shadow Faelings are highly regarded, and Viravain favors women (which isn't technically a race, but meh).

15. Does your nation believe individual freedom is more important than collective responsibility and duty?
No, Glomdoring > you.

16. Does your nation believe that its people or its physical and planar areas have more influence on its culture?
Again, Glomdoring > you.

17. Does your nation believe that their Guides (Cosmic/Elemental Lords and Great Spirits) are infallible?
Under normal circumstances, yes. However, we recognize that Viravain is smarter, and no Elder God (including the Lady) is omnipotent. In addition, we recognize that even though the Great Spirits and Viravain aren't all-knowing, they're a heck of a lot smarter than we are, so we trust them.

18. Does your nation believe that their Guides should override their mortal leadership?
Yes.

19. Does your nation seek expansion and conquest? (Not counting swaying villages)
Expansion, yes. Conquest? Eh, maybe. We just want to Wyrd-ify the entire Basin, not crush the people living in it.

20. Finally, list three to five core beliefs unique to your nation alone that do not reference individual entities. (Not "we follow White Hart" for instance).
All taken.

Does flattery get you anywhere Up-There?

Boot licking is everything up here. Sadly, I do not possess much of a tongue, but Morgfyre has many, hence I was stuffed in Celest and Morgfyre got to dominate all of Magnagora.
